Japan Travel: On the Border of Nagano and Gunma: Usui Pass Observation Platform and Kumano Kotai Shrine, Nagano 57

Karuizawa (軽井沢) is an upscale mountain resort located at the foot of the active volcano Mount Asama in Nagano Prefecture. The resort is located at an altitude of roughly 1000 meters. Therefore, many visitors come to the town to escape from the summer heat. Karuizawa was actually first discovered in the late 1800s by Western residents of Japan. A popular international resort, today, many wealthy urbanites own a second home there. And with the Nagano Shinkansen, visitor can arrive at Karuizawa from Tokyo in a little over than an hour.

Karuizawa offers various outdoor activities, such as tennis, hiking, cycling, golfing in summer and skiing and ice skating in winter. In addition, there are many shopping opportunities here. Karuizawa is located along Japan's Romantic Road. The road boasts beautiful autumn scenery from around mid October to early November each year.

Four kilometers northeast of the Kyu-Karuizawa town center is the Usui Pass Observation Platform (碓氷峠見晴台). This observation platform is located on the border of Gunma and Nagano Prefectures. Visitor will be greeted with beautiful views over the mountains of Gunma Prefecture on one side with Mount Asama on the other side.

Near the Usui Pass Observation Platform is the Kumano Kotai Shrine (熊野皇大神社). This shrine is also on the border of Gunma and Nagano as well. There are three halls at the shrine. The main hall (hongu) is on top of the border with the Nachi hall on the left being on the Nagano side. The Shingu Hall, located on the right, is on the Gunma side. The Kumano Kotai Shrine is a branch shrine of the Kumano Sanzan shrines on the Kii Peninsula.

It was sunny and a really nice day to walk around to see Skytree.

八甲田、十和田湖方面に紅葉狩りに出かけてきました。青森から奥入瀬に向かう途中、八甲田山麓を通りますが、八甲田の山頂付近は既に紅葉は終わっていたものの、山麓は丁度見ごろで綺麗に紅葉していました。八甲田スキー場、城ケ倉大橋、酸ヶ湯温泉、地獄沼の美しい紅葉風景をどうぞ。

Snow trekking, Mt. Omuro, Fuji San ???? (Japan Vlog.4)

On the last few days in Japan, we bought a 3 day JR wide pass and snow trek in Galza Yuzawa, hike at Mt. Omuro, and cruise along the Kawaguchiko river with Fuji San on the background!

Ending the year with amazing company and great food are the combination that is heavenly. Thank you Litta and Peng again ????

Took an hour plus bus ride up to the hill to see the FAMED Frozen Lake of Mount Haruna and I was really lucky cos if the road was not cleared by noon.. there will be no bus ride up there.

Hiking down Usui Pass - Old railway, lake and waterfall!

On the 4th day of my rail journey, instead of spending the majority of the day on a train I spent it hiking between two stations instead! On the way I come across an old rail line, a beautiful lake and a secluded waterfall!
(Note that the large majority of the hike, say 4ish hours, is on the road on Usui Pass which isn't shown much as it's just endless curves)

Empat kilometer ke arah timur laut dari pusat kota Kyu-Karuizawa ada tempat Podium Penelitian Puncak Usui (碓氷峠見晴台).
Tempat penelitian ini berada di pinggiran Gunma dan Prefektur Nagano.
Wisatawan akan disambut oleh keindahan pemandangan dari gunung di prefektur Gunma di satu sisi dan gunung Asama di sisi lainnya.

Dekat dengan Podium Penelitian Pass Usui ada kuil Kotai (熊野皇大神社). Kuil inipun terletak di perbatasan Gunma dan Naganni.
Ada tiga aula di kuil ini. aula utamanya (hongu) berada di atas perbatasan dengan aula Nachi di sebelah kiri , merupakan bagian Nagano.
Aula Shingu, terletak di kanan, berada di bagian Gunma.
Kuil kumano Kotai adalah anak kuil dari Kumano senzen di semenanjung Kii.
