Asgiriya Stadium: Ground which gave birth to a Sri Lankan legend
Very few International cricket stadiums around the world is owned by a college. Trinity College in Kandy will rank amongst the top. Firstly, the Asgiriya stadium was the venue for Sri Lanka’s second home Test, in 1983 and secondly the ground gave birth to a legend called Kumar Sangakkara. It is also the same stadium which saw another Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan break Shane Warne’s record for the most Test wickets in 2007.

Sri Lanka’s best cricket stadium to host India in a test match for the first time
The picturesque Pallekele International Stadium will be hosting the third and final test match of the series between India and Sri Lanka, starting from Saturday. Located about a half-hour drive east of Kandy the stadium will be hosting the Indian cricket team in a test match for the first time ever. The last time an Indian team played at the Pallekele stadium was in 2012 when they played an ODI and a T20.
The stadium owned by the Sri Lanka Cricket is by far the best cricket centres in the emerald isle. With a capacity of 35000, the Pallekele stadium was built during the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup. Located at the backdrop of the beautiful mountains, the stadium showcases state of the art facilities with beautiful grass banks on both sides of the stadium.
Sri Lanka National Cricket team wins their first test match against Australia in Kandy, 1999
Australia plays Sri Lanka at the Asgiriya Stadium in Kandy, Sri Lanka in 1999. Sri Lanka wins the match with 6 wickets while injured Australian cricketers Steve Waugh and Jason Gillespie are taken from Kandy to Colombo. With this win, Sri Lanka registers their first win over Australia in a test match.
While India takes on West Indies.
