Afghanistan and Turkmenistan inaugurate apis Lazuli railway
The presidents of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan on Monday officially opened a new railroad that will link the oil-rich former Soviet republic with Afghanistan.
Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov and his Afghan counterpart, Ashraf Ghani, put on white work mittens at the Imamnazar station on the Turkmen side of the border on Monday to tighten the screw on a rail at the platform which was covered with expensive Turkmen carpets for the ceremony.

Turkmenistan (3/4): Don't PANIC! | The Long Road Ep. 36
As I couldn't find anything nearby the Door To Hell, I decided to head back to the train station. While trying to find the way back I experienced one of my scariest moments of this trip so far.
Filmed with the iPhone 6 and Panasonic Lumix G80/81/85
The long Road is a journey from Germany all the way to Nepal, through the middle east, following the old silk road, China, South-East Asia and India. The whole journey will be overland (no planes, UFOs or portals) and put together into short videos on this channel :)

Almaty-2 railway station:
Almaty-2 is one of the oldest train stations located in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The station serves around average attendance of about 5000 people. During the summer however, the capacity of people increases to 10,000. Located in the center of the city, it serves as the primary departure point for passengers in all directions, including internationally, which are mostly Russian cities such as Moscow, St. Petersburg and Ürümqi in China. Domestic destinations are Astana, Shymkent, Petropavlovsk, Atyrau, Zhezkazgan, Mangyshlak, and Uralsk.
During the first years of building the station, the construction site of the building was located on the Turksib Krasnogvardeysky tract in place of the furniture factory. After the suggestion of the engineer, Mukhamedzhan Tynyshpaev, the construction was moved to the street, Starokladbischenskuyu (now named Abylai Khan), where the old cemetery was located. The cemetery was removed and was replaced with a station square which in later years saw tram and trolleybus services. The area opened a new path for a new avenue of the capital of Kazakh SSR. Railway Station Square has its own little history. In 1954, the monument to Abay was installed to the square. Then in 1972, a monument to Kalinin was added; it was removed in 1992. Finally in 2000, a monument to Abylai Khan was installed that is still standing. Around the square, an area of residential and public buildings were built. Until 1941, the train station and station facilities were built to a standard project. During the beginning of World War II, the east side of the building was built. The sides of the buildings are semi-circular projection in the facade in terms of volumes with large window panes located in the entrance part of the building. The sculptural composition of male and female figures, symbolizing the success, industry, agriculture and the Soviet Union. Decorative objects were made by a Czech sculptor Bogomil Vahek exiled during Stalin years who lived in Almaty. All architects, engineers and designers of the station were eventually subsequently repressed and shot due to the effects of the Great Purge. In 1977, the building was reconstructed. With an addition construction of the west wing which included renovation of technology disorders, changing the interior and exterior of the building.

Bukhara Railway Station
History of Bukhara Railway Station dates back to the early 19th century, when the Trans-Caspian railway was built in Central Asia. In 1888 it passed close to Bukhara through the village of Kagan. Soon a narrow-gauge railway was extended to the city and later it was replaced by the standard wide gauge railway. In the 20ies Bukhara Railways played an important role during the revolution and establishment of Soviet power in the former Bukhara Emirate.
Today Bukhara has two railway stations: Bukhara-1 in Kagan and Bukhara-2 in Bukhara. All trains arrive at the station in Kagan and the Bukhara-2 Station is used only for freight. Close to the Bukhara-1 Station there is the parking of taxi drivers, because the distance to the city is about 15 km.
Cooking without gas on the road to Ashgabat
Their nomadic lifestyle meant that they had little cooking equipment, and could only carry food that could be easily preserved. These conditions, along with brutally hot summers and a barren desert landscape, gave rise to the traditional Turkman dish of ichlekli, or shepherds' pie.
Ichlekli: are cooked when they are buried in hot sand, of which there is no shortage, given summer temperatures which…

In April 2017 I left Australia for my trip around the world on a BMW F800GS. I named it “Are We There Yet”, because I don't know my final destination or the duration of this journey.
Turkmenistan was the eighth country I visited and I must admit it was the strangest of all the Stans. Getting transit visa is very random - normally only 50% of applications get approved. I was lucky... this time! I spent only 3 days in Turkmenistan but I got to see one of the main attractions - The Darvaza gas crater known locally as the ''Gates of Hell. The crater is located 7km from the main road which would seem not very far, but this big sandy hill was a massive challenge for me. My poor sand riding skills weren't going to stop me from reaching my goal... I was determined to find a way there ;).
If you wish to get more details on my stay in Turkmenistan check out my blog post:
Throughout my journey I'm raising money for a young disabled child in Poland named Franek. Franek was diagnosed with cerebral palsy (weakness of the entire right side of the body) and he will require constant rehabilitation for the rest of his life. All the money raised will go directly to helping Franek and his family lead as normal a life as possible so please donate generously:

Migrant Express Part 3: Stuck At The Border
Thousands of migrants travel from Tajikistan to Russia each year in search of work. For many, the trip begins with a grueling four-day train journey from Dushanbe to Moscow, during which they endure police inspections, cramped quarters and brutal heat.
RFE/RL correspondents Mumin Shakirov and Alexander Kulygin traveled with a group of Tajik migrants on one such journey, experiencing the same hardships and recording the stories, hopes, and fears of four people seeking work in Russia.
In the third part of the series, the migrants on board the Dushanbe-Moscow train wait through hours of drug inspections at the Uzbek border, but that doesn't stop them from enjoying a little music and dance.
