Beautiful Spring Day Walk Through The Suburbs of Ashiya, Hyogo Prefecture | The Real Japan
Beautiful Spring Day Walk Through The Suburbs of Ashiya, Hyogo Prefecture | The Real Japan | HD
Ashiya is a small city in Hyogo Prefecture and my home in Japan.
In this I film, I walk you from the suburbs near the mountains, down towards the city centre, pointing out local features, stores, characters, and aspects of daily life in The Real Japan.
The writer Haruki Murakami grew up in Ashiya, where he spent most of his teenage years, and wrote about it both in books and essays. In the essay Henkyo-Kinkyo (Remote Region/Near Region) he describes growing up there as:
...a comfy place to spend during one’s boyhood to the adolescent period. In the peaceful, laid back suburban town tinged with a free atmosphere, I rambled in the hills and went swimming with friends at a nearby beach.
Murakami is just one of several famous creative people associated with the city. Ashiya is the main setting in Jun'ichiro Tanizaki's novel Sasameyuki (細雪) aka The Makioka Sisters.

A Walk Around Nakanoike Ryokuchi Park, Ashiya, Hyogo Prefecture | The Real Japan | HD
A Walk Around Nakanoike Ryokuchi Park, Ashiya, Hyogo Prefecture | The Real Japan | HD
In this short film, we take a relaxing stroll through the suburbs of Ashiya to Nakanoike Ryokuchi Park.
Ashiya is our home when we are in Japan. It is in Hyogo Prefecture, (on the main island of Honshu) close to Kobe, and not far from Kyoto and Osaka.
Nakanoike Ryokuchi Park is a modest municipal park built around a pond, where ducks, koi card and turtles make their homes.
We walk along the street, past the large houses, then enter the park from the northern entrance. Down the steps, we come to a sign explaining the various types of fish you can expect to see in the pond.
It was a sunny, warm spring day, so we decided to walk here with my wife's parents. It was peaceful and enjoyable.

A Day in Moriya with Ate Doris! (Watch in HD)
Moriya is located in southwestern Ibaraki Prefecture, bordering on Chiba Prefecture to the southwest. The city is surrounded by three rivers, the Kinugawa, Kokaigawa and the Tone River, one of the longest rivers in Japan. In terms of area, it is the smallest city in Ibaraki Prefecture. It is located approximately 35 kilometers from central Tokyo.
I travel whenever I get time to travel and people ask me the same question, Why do you travel or why do you waste money on travel and I normally look at their faces that what should I answer them cause anyway they will never get to understand the answer unless you do it yourself. Seeing is believing and I agree with everyone. It's education, exposure, learning, exploring, management, cultures, dealing, problem solving etc.
Life is short, so live it well! Travel, see the world, explore.
Dare to dream. Dare to be different.
Keep uploading, keep travelling.
