Morjim is a small town in Pernem, Goa, situated on the northern bank of Chapora River. Morjim beach is next to Ashwem Beach and Chapora River. It is a soft white sand beach and sea is shallow and flat in some parts. These features make this an ideal place for swimming even for non professional swimmers. This northern Goa Beach is close to Baga Beach of Goa, but is not a busy one like Baga Beach. If you like peace and serenity then this is an ideal beach for you in Goa.
The beach is a famous nesting site for Olive ridley sea turtles. These sea turtles are an endangered species now and they are given highest degree of protection by Indian law. Egg poaching and disturbing them in any manner is a punishable offence according to Indian Wildlife Protection Act 1972. Due to protect the turtles, there are smaller numbers of beach shacks and nightclubs in this beach compared to the other beaches of Goa. The little beach shacks are also available in the northern end away from the protected southern end which is close to Chapora confluence.
How to reach Morjim Beach
Morjim is 28.2 kilometers from Panaji, car rate is around Rs 600. From Vasco da Gama railway station the distance is 52 km. You can reach Morjim beach from vasco da gama station via the NH 66. The charge of a car for this trip is around Rs 1000. Morjim beach is 51 kilometers from the Dabolim international airport. Cab fare is around Rs 1000. There is also bus service available from these locations to Morjim Beach. Fare is between Rs 50 to 100.
Things to do in Morjim Beach
Enjoy The Beach –
This is a fantastic beach for peace lover. There are lesser crowd at Morjim even at the peak tourist season. The 3 kilometer long white sandy beach is ideal for walking or relaxing. Lots of foreign tourists, mostly Russians come here. That is the reason it is also popular as Little Russia. Camel rides are available on the beach. There are beach shacks at the northern end, because the southern part is protected for Olive ridley sea turtle.
Olive Ridley Turtles –
See these endangered turtles at the southern part of the beach as they swim up to lay their eggs. The nesting grounds are covered in nets to protect the babies. You can watch the eggs from outside and see the babies begin their crawl to the sea.

Choose from 1-hour, 2-hour, a half-day or even an overnight houseboat cruise on the calm and quiet Chapora River. There are sunset cruises as well.
Siolim Fish Market –
The market is close to the beach. You will find lots of fish like tuna, mackerel, tiger prawns, lobster, white and red snapper, mussels, kingfish, squid here.
Bird Watching –
The sea coast and the adjoining Chapora River is a bird watchers' paradise. There are many species of birds present here including kingfisher, cuckoo, sandpipers, bay-backed shrike, and sand plover, among others.
Chapora Fort –
This is an old fort on the other side of the river, but is very close to the Morjim beach.

Ashvem Beach, Goa Review - Morjim - Goa Unplugged
Ashvem Beach, Goa Review (also known as Ashwem Beach, Goa)
Goa unplugged Travel Diaries
Ashwem Beach is famous for its rocky beach that has been shaped by shellfish, giving the rocks a unique shape. The beach isn’t well known among tourists making it an ideal place for people looking for some alone time at a beautiful location.
Ashwem also stands out for its location north of the nesting place of the Olive Ridley Turtle, tourists and Animal Rights Activists come from different parts of Goa and beyond to witness this scene.
ATTRACTIONS IN ASHVEM
---------------------------------------------
Ashwem doesn’t have too many major attractions but the few that it does have are
a. THE RESTAURANTS
Ashwem has quite a few restaurants along the roads that lead up to the beach. These range from Italian to Continental and everything in between. It isn’t just known for its posh food but also the food available in shacks. Shacks in Ashvem prepare some of the tastiest meals you’ve ever eaten, it cannot however be compared to a restaurant as they are two completely different experiences.
b. THE SCENERY
Ashvem has a beautiful scenery known for its rocks all around it carved by the shellfish. The view that the beach provides is one of the most beautiful sights ever seen. Ashwem isn’t very crowded which only adds to it beauty that would’ve been ruined amidst a large audience.
c. THE BEACH
The beach was known for having large groups of turtles coming up to the shores to lay their eggs. Tourists and foreigners would travel many miles to witness this sight. However this is currently on a decline due to pollution and other environmental hazards that are detrimental to their well being.
d. ASHWEM TIPS AND SECRETS
Ashvem, Goa – How To Get There
The beach is located in the Pernem sub district of North Goa. Nearby beaches are Kerim, Arambol and Morjim, the area around Ashwem offers many beautiful landscapes, beaches and sights.
To get to Ashwem, follow the road to Pernem, turn left about 500 mts after the Chopdem Village Panchayat. Follow this road for about 2 kms and take another left, follow this road and it should lead you straight to the beach.
APPROX TRANSIT TIME TO ASHVEM
------------------------------------------------------------
Dabolim Airport, Mormugao - 1.5 hours
Panjim - 1 hours
Margao Railway Station - 2 hours
Tivim Railway Station - 1 hour
SUGGESTED PLAN FOR A DAY IN ASHWEM
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spend your morning going for a walk on the beach. Its a healthy, nice and peaceful way to pass your time. Followed by lunch at a shack on the beach. After lunch it would be a wise idea to stay indoors as the beach gets really hot and a tan would be the least of your concerns. The evening is a good time to go exploring and looking at the area around the beach. Watching the sun set puts an end to a beautiful day and then its off to find a restaurant to get dinner, if you still have unspent energy, hitting a nightclub might be a good idea.
Morning -
Sightseeing (Ashwem Beach)
Hangout (Golden Eye Beach Hut)
Afternoon -
Lunch (Sur La Mer)
Dessert (Aquatica)
Evening -
Swimming (Ashwem Beach)
Hangout (Palm Grove Beach Shack)
Night -
Dinner (La Plage)
Party (Blu Sunset Beach Party ( Mandrem ) )
RESTAURANTS IN ASHWEM
----------------------
There are a few restaurants in Ashwen since the area isn’t that well known. A restaurant you should definitely visit in Ashwem would be the La Plage. There is also the hotel club at Ashvem, Bardo if you are looking for a mix of luxury, ease, revelry and traditional Goa magic.
1. Bardo

2. Sur La Mer

CAFES AND BEACH SHACKS IN ASHWEM
---------------------------------
Ashwem has some of the best food and hangout spots Goa has to offer. The food here can be eaten in shacks on the beach or under umbrellas made of coconut leaves. Since Ashwem is a remote and isolated beach, the sea shore has few beach shacks.
