The Askeran clash on 22—23 February 1988 in the town of Askeran was one of the starting points of Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, which triggered the Nagorno-Karabakh War.The Askeran clash was followed by the Sumgait pogroms.

Մինչև տարեվերջ Ասկերանի բերդի՝ Ստեփանակերտ-Ասկերան ճանապարհին հարող հատվածը, ներկայանալու է նոր տեսքով: 18-րդ դարում կառուցված բերդի այդ հատվածը, ոչ միայն վերականգնվելու, բարեկարգվելու է, այլև ավելի մատչելի է դառնալու զբոսաշրջիկների համար: Ծրագիրը պետական բյուջեից է ֆինանսավորվում: Աշխատանքներն արդեն մեկնարկել են:
До конца года участок дороги Степанакерт-Аскеран, прилегающий к Аскеранской крепости, получит совершенно новый вид. Построенная еще в VIII веке эта часть крепости не только будет восстановлена, но и станет более доступна для туристов. Проект финансируется из средств государственного бюджета.
