======================================
ASPENDOS was next SIDE the main town in this region.
Yet this is not archaeologically excavated ; this city came under Roman rule (1st Cent.): the Romans built the imposing 9 arch bridge over the Eurymedodon (today Koprücai). After many of Years it collapsed in an earthquake.
The Bridge was reconstructed by the Seljuks - now made with pointed arches in the 11th century . The fact that the Seljuks the solid foundations of the Romans used, they were somehow offset by the earthquake, the strange kink occures in the course of this interesting bridge. The water for the city was headed by a well-preserved Roman aqueduct on the Plains: this aqueduct is still in good condition.
The Taurus Mountains - going there to 3000 meters - is the water dispenser in the region; at the foot of Gebirges- a few kilometers northeast of Antalya - is a nature reserve: Kursunlu Şelalesi ........

Aspendos Theatre, Turkey 2010
Testing out the acoustics of the ancient Aspendos theatre with my fabulous whistle, coming in as clear as a bell. Filmed in May of 2010 with my Sony HX5V, 1080i.
The following is from Wikipedia:
Aspendos is known for having the best-preserved theatre of antiquity. With a diametre of 96 metres (315 ft), the theatre provided seating for 7,000.[3]
The theatre was built in 155[3] by the Greek architect Zenon, a native of the city, during the rule of Marcus Aurelius. It was periodically repaired by the Seljuks, who used it as a caravansary, and in the 13th century the stage building was converted into a palace by the Seljuqs of Rum.[4]
In order to keep with Hellenistic traditions, a small part of the theatre was built so that it leaned against the hill where the Citadel (Acropolis) stood, while the remainder was built on vaulted arches. The high stage served to seemingly isolate the audience from the rest of the world. The scaenae frons or backdrop, has remained intact. The 8.1 metre (27 ft) sloping reflective wooden ceiling over the stage has been lost over time. Post holes for 58 masts are found in the upper level of the theatre. These masts supported a velarium or awning that could be pulled over the audience to provide shade.[3]
Until recently the theatre was still in use for concerts, festivals and events. Due to some damage caused by fitting modern theatrical equipment during these events the Turkish authorities have suspended further shows. A new modern facility known as Aspendos Arena has been constructed nearby to continue the tradition of open air theatre in Aspendos.
Nearby stand the remains of a basilica, agora, nymphaeum and 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) of a Roman aqueduct. The Roman Eurymedon Bridge, reconstructed in the 13th century, is also in the vicinity.

Crescent by Bike ~ Aspendos to Side, Turkey
Saturday, September 18th, 2010. This was a great day ~ we camped out on an old Ottoman (Roman?) humpback bridge, something I'd always wanted to do in Albania but never had a reason to... Spent the morning wondering through the open air ruins of Aspendos, and discovered that if you're really quiet, you can easily locate a half dozen turtles trundeling around in the grass. For something so small, they make a heck of a lot of noise, like little tanks. The ride was straight forward, we stopped half way at a fruit and vegetable market, but didn't film until we hit Side. If anyone is going to Southern Turkey, Side is worth a stop, the ruins are a little over run, but it makes for a great sunset. We were planning on camping for the night, but after locking our bikes out front of this gentleman's shop for the day, he decided to invite us home with him for a great meal with his family. His name is Turan and he owns a nice carpet shop in downtown Side. He's the first Kurdish person we met on our trip and it was a great experience getting to meet his family. If anyone wants the Google Earth map file, just email me, christopher.hassler@gmail.com

Aspendos
Aspendos was an ancient city in Pamphylia, Asia Minor, located about 40 km east of Antalya, on the Eurymedon River (now the Kopru River). The city was founded around 1000 B.C. and by the 5th century B.C it had become the most important city in Pamphylia. At that time the Eurymedon River was navigable as far as Aspendus, and the city derived great wealth from a trade in salt, oil, and wool. In 333 B.C. Aspendus paid Alexander the Great a levy to avoid being garrisoned, but it ignored its agreements with him and later was occupied. In 190 B.C. the city surrendered to the Romans, who later pillaged it of its artistic treasures. Toward the end of the Roman period the city began a decline that continued throughout Byzantine times.
Aspendos is known for having the best-preserved theatre of antiquity. With diameter of 96 meters (315 ft), the theatre provided seating for 7,000. The theater was built in 155 by the Greek architect Zenon, a native of the city, during the rule of Marcus Aurelius. It was periodically repaired by the Seljuks who used it as a caravanserai. A beautiful Seljuk bridge still spans the nearby river. Nearby stand the remains of a basilica, agora, nymphaeum and 15 kilometers of Roman aqueduct.
