Film Vereinsanlass 2018 Val de Travers
Fast 100 nahmen an der 10. Ausgabe unseres Vereinsanlasses statt.

The Val de Travers is located in the Neuchâtel Jura and runs parallel to Lake Neuchâtel. This also explains its name («transverse valley»), since it runs transversely to the other valleys in the Neuchâtel Jura. The broad valley floor is traversed by the river Areuse. The Areuse emerges from the St-Sulpice Gorge at the upper valley entrance and leaves the Val de Travers through the Gorges de l'Areuse.
The valley is connected to Neuchâtel (479 m above sea level), the canton capital by the lake of the same name, via a railway line. The little town of Pontarlier (826 m above sea level) in the French Jura can also be accessed via the Val de Travers.
Near the village of Travers (735 m above sea level, the former asphalt mines of La Presta can be found. Until 1986, asphalt was mined in this over 100-km-long tunnel system. The mine was among the most important ones in Europe

The Most Dangerous Road in America - The Million Dollar Highway
The Million Dollar Highway is a spur of U.S. Highway 50, Also known as U.S. 550. The stretch from Silverton to Ouray is frequently called the Million Dollar Highway, but it goes by other names; such as the “Scenic Byway”. If you are being dramatic it’s referred to as the “Highway to Hell”.
The road has made its way to several large publications and most dangerous lists. Popular Mechanics ranked it Number 3 of 10of the “Most Dangerous Roadways”. It is the only road in the continental US ranked by USA Today’s list of the “World's Most Dangerous Roads”. The automotive blog RoadCrazed and the DangerousRoads.org Rank the Million Dollar Highway as the most dangerous road worldwide. If you are measuring how dangerous a road is by the number of fatal accidents that happened on it the Million Dollar Highway is the winner, with no contest. This is especially astonishing when we consider war zone roads, such as; Kabul-Jalalabad Highway (Afghanistan) and Nanga Parbat Pass (Pakistan) were included in most publications, considerations, and lists. Perhaps, the “Highway to Hell” isn’t such a bad name after all?

The Netherlands from above - E10/10 - Into Dutch airspace one more time
This series shows The Netherlands from a spectacular perspective. Through data visualizations, impressive aerial images and portraits of people on the ground, we show who we are and how time changes and has changed the country.
More than 100 years ago, Dutch aviation pioneer Anthony Fokker caused a stir in the city of Haarlem by flying a few laps over it in his primitive aircraft de Spin (the Spider). Fokker was the first to see what we're now accustomed to: The Netherlands From Above.

How the oceans can clean themselves: Boyan Slat at TEDxDelft
18-year-old Boyan Slat combines environmentalism, entrepreneurism and technology to tackle global issues of sustainability. After diving in Greece, and coming across more plastic bags than fish, he wondered; why can't we clean this up?
While still being on secondary school, he then decided to dedicate half a year of research to understand plastic pollution and the problems associated with cleaning it up.
This ultimately led to his passive clean-up concept, which he presented at TEDxDelft 2012.
Working to prove the feasibility of his concept, Boyan Slat currently gives lead to a team of approximately 50 people, and temporarily quit his Aerospace Engineering study to completely focus his efforts on The Ocean Cleanup.
The progress of The Ocean Cleanup can be followed through theoceancleanup.com, facebook.com/TheOceanCleanup, as well as twitter.com/TheOceanCleanup.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
