Manchester Airport Terminal 1 Restaurants and Shops
Full walking tour of the Manchester Airport Terminal 1 shops and restaurants with no talking. From the Manchester Airport Security Check through the entire terminal. The Manchester airport terminal 1 restaurants and shops are pretty good actually with plenty of choice.
Manchester Airport (IATA: MAN, ICAO: EGCC) is an international airport at Ringway, Manchester, England, 7.5 nautical miles (13.9 km; 8.6 mi) south-west of Manchester city centre.[2][4] In 2016, it was the third busiest airport in the United Kingdom in terms of passenger numbers and the busiest outside London.[3][5] The airport comprises three passenger terminals and a goods terminal, and is the only airport in the UK other than Heathrow Airport to operate two runways over 3,280 yd (2,999 m) in length. Manchester Airport covers an area of 560 hectares (1,400 acres) and has flights to 199 destinations, placing the airport thirteenth globally for total destinations served.[6]
Officially opened on 25 June 1938,[7] it was initially known as Ringway Airport, and is still called this locally. In the Second World War, as RAF Ringway, it was a base for the Royal Air Force. The airport is owned and managed by the Manchester Airports Group (MAG), a holding company owned by the Australian finance house IFM Investors and the ten metropolitan borough councils of Greater Manchester, with Manchester City Council owning the largest stake. Ringway, after which the airport was named, is a village with a few buildings and church at the southern edge of the airport.
Future developments include the £800 million Manchester Airport City logistics, manufacturing, office and hotel space next to the airport. Ongoing and future transport improvements include the £290 million Eastern Link relief road, due to open in summer 2019. A High Speed 2 station known as Manchester Interchange, is earmarked for opening in 2033, and will directly connect the airport to Central London in under an hour and create a regular sub-10 minute shuttle service for connecting rail passengers from central Manchester to the Airport - relieving stress on the Styal Line to the Airport from Manchester which has become one of the most congested routes on the National Rail network.[8]
After the airport handled a record 27.8 million passengers in 2017,[3] the Airport is currently undergoing a major expansion programme to double the size of Terminal 2, with the first phase due to open in spring 2019. The £1 billion expansion will be completed in 2024 and enable the Terminal 2 to handle 35 million passengers.[9] Capacity exists for up to 50 million passengers annually with two runways,[10] however this potential figure is limited by the airport's restriction to 61 aircraft movements per hour as well as existing terminal sizes to effectively process arrivals and departures.[11]

I’m here at the Escape lounge T2 and I’m going to show you why airport lounges are a real money saving choice.
First of all you get to swap the busy terminal for this grown up chilled out hideaway. Let’s face it, it’s priceless. Soft and alcoholic drinks are included in the price. A couple of these in the terminal can cost you more than a tenner.
Foods free too and you’ll find it in abundance. There are breakfast rolls and a continental buffet in the morning. There are soups in the afternoon and evening, and plenty of savoury snacks for you to nibble on. There’s even free wifi, which will set you back if you buy it in the terminal.
I’m going to enjoy my free wifi, and my free coffee and cake, and a slice of smug money saving pie.

Manchester Airport passengers on the new drop-off charges
Some passengers and staff have branded new drop-off charges at Manchester Airport ‘crazy’ and ‘stupid’ – while others have praised the new system for being organised and efficient. From Tuesday, drivers carrying out ‘kiss and fly’ drop-offs are being charged £3 for five minute stays or £4 for ten minutes, while stays over 10 minutes incur a fine of £25. Drivers are offered the alternative of using a free drop-off area at Jetparks 1, before catching a shuttle bus to their terminal. The scheme has courted controversy – but airport bosses have insisted it’s aimed at relieving crippling congestion around the site. The M.E.N spoke to passengers at the airport on Tuesday paying the charge to use the drop-off bays. Tim Griffiths, 45, an airline pilot, said: “There’s just no need for it. I think people should boycott flights in protest. Why are they charging? It’s crazy, a rip-off. It’s just another tax. How is it helping congestion to charge? If you want to improve that then make the infrastructure better.” Gary Martland, 41, and his partner Mel York, had just been dropped off. Gary said: “It’s a bit stupid to charge for that. It doesn’t make sense and it should be free.” He says the new charges have added £3 to his 3.45am taxi journey to work from Wythenshawe , with cabbies passing on the new fees to passengers. He added: “It’s gone from £5 to £8 and if I used the Jetparks free zone then it’s further, so the price would be £8.50. So I’m paying £15 extra. “I can apply for a staff permit but that only works with two registration plates, so wouldn’t work with taxis. I really think more thought should have been put into how this affects staff.” Mike Withy, 64, a local government officer from the Wirral, meanwhile, was in favour of the new system. “I support them – it stops people causing problems by parking up on double yellows to drop off and causing disruption for everyone else. “It will be even better if they invest it back into the airport and don’t just take it for profit. I’m okay with it, though. It’s efficient and provides equality for all people dropping off which I think can only be a good thing.” Phil Sanders, 67, a semi-retired business owner from Appleton, said: “It’s very expensive to just pull up and then pull away again. But we’re not that bothered, it does seem quite organised.” Another passenger added: “It’s not ideal but I don’t mind – I will mind if they put the charge up to £10 though.” There has been no change to arrangements for picking people up, with those collecting passengers asked to park in the car parks at each terminal, which cost £4 for 30 minutes. Hackney drivers, meanwhile, have been boycotting the terminals in protest against their T3 rank being moved ‘out of sight’ to make way for the new drop-off bays. Unite members say they will continue action until the airport listens to their concerns. On Tuesday they marched around the terminals waving flags and chanting. Swiss Airbus A220-100 Full Flight | Manchester to Zurich | Business Class
A full length full flight video in real time with Swiss, from Manchester to Zurich in business class, onboard Airbus A220-100 HB-JBA operating flight LX391 on July 29 2016.
Our journey today begins on the Skylink bridge at Manchester Airport making our way from the rail station to Terminal 1. As we are flying in business class today, we make our way to the priority lane at security, bypassing the long line on this busy summer morning.
Once past security we head to the Aspire lounge, which gives us a great view of the ramp as well as a comfortable environment to relax in ahead of our flight. After grabbing a coffee and the essential bacon roll, we sit and watch the planes for a while before heading back into the airport an making our way to the gate for today's flight.
There is a delay in boarding the aircraft due to a technical fault and we wait for this to be fixed. Eventually we board the aircraft 30 minutes behind schedule, walking across the ramp and taking our seat in row 1 on this brand new Airbus A220.
The captain welcomes us aboard as we enjoy a welcome drink, and before long we push back and taxi out to runway 23L. We make a powerful departure from Manchester, climbing away like a rocket thanks to the A220's powerful PW1000G engines. We climb to our cruising altitude of 39,000ft for today's flight.
We are treated to a lovely cooked breakfast with a choice of drinks, but due to the early hour I decide to just take a coffee.
We commence our descent down into Zurich getting the trademark Swiss chocolate, and make our approach to runway 14. As we cross the threshold of runway 14, the pilot initiates a go-around due to another aircraft on the runway that didn't vacate in time. We once again climb like a rocket, reaching 4,000ft in around 30 seconds! We then get a scenic second approach into Zurich, touching down eventually 40 minutes late.
Once we pull on stand, we are shuttled to the terminal in the dedicated business class shuttle bus, which took us straight to passport control ensuring that I was just in time to catch my onward flight!
