New York in 1898. Film 33902
New York City, New York, U.S.A. New York USA in 1898.
Tram passes by right to left very close to the camera. A wider shot of the street in New York (possibly Times Square?) with horse drawn trams, pedestrians and a couple of policeman milling about in the foreground, another 263 electric tram for Broadway passes left to right just in front of the camera position. A different street, another Broadway electric tram passes left to right, elevated railway and building to the rear, a little boy runs across the road after the tram passes. Horse traffic on a busy street, selection of horse drawn cabs and carriages passing on both sides of a road, a close shot. Street with Brownstone buildings to the rear, open horse drawn carriage passes.
Pedestrians on 'Easter Parade' in fine clothes. A group of people gathered on some steps, some gaze towards the camera which pans right.. A sidewalk with people walking up and down, well dressed, men wear top hats, women also in fancy hats and long dresses, some men also wear suits and bowler hats

Arizona and New Mexico
Two bordering states in these United States. Both are in the heart of the American Southwest.
Both are about the same size...New Mexico is just slightly bigger. However, Arizona has more than three times as many people, and it’s growing at a higher rate. In fact, Arizona is one of the fastest growing states in the country, while New Mexico is definitely not.
A big reason why is Phoenix, which is the fifth biggest city in the country. Phoenix attracts all the concerts, all the professional sports teams, all the best comedians, and all the best indie films in theaters that people think they’re cool for seeing.
Arizona also has Tucson, which has a larger metropolitan population than New Mexico’s biggest city, Alburquerque. Still, it has an amazing balloon festival called the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. Plus Albuquerque is a way cooler name for a city. I just love saying it.
Both states are known for their deserts, for both are two of the driest states in the country. However, both have these little areas that get higher rainfall due to having a higher elevation.
Due to these elevation differences, both do have some climate variation. I mean, Arizona has the high plateau in the northeast part of the state, the mountainous region that runs from the northwest to southeast, and the low ranges and desert valleys down in the southwestern part. Its biggest desert is the Sonoran. The Chihuahuan Desert is the big one in New Mexico, and it even creeps into Arizona. New Mexico also has the Rocky Mountains in the north, the Great Plains in the east, and basically high plateau throughout the rest of the state. Where the elevation is high, they also tend to get four seasons. Otherwise, folks have been moving to both states for decades due to their mild winters and generally beautiful weather. Or at least snowbirds just head down there for the winter.

2012 Hiking Chaco Canyon and Monument Valley, with side trips on Route 66
Please note: Picasa's slideshow utility and YouTube did not play well together this time so I have inserted many annotations duplicating my enbedded captions. Sorry about the appearance this caused.
The video shows significant sites in Chaco Culture Historical Park (Chaco Canyon) and the Navajo Tribal Park (Monument Valley), as well as minor coverage of Route 66 in Tucumcari, NM and Shamrock, TX.
Chaco sites are:
Hungo Pavi, Chetro Ketl, Pueblo Bonito, Pueblo Del Arroyo, Casa Riconada, Pueblo Alto, New Alto, Penasco Blanco, Tsin Kletsin and the Nebula Pictograph. Pictures are included from hikes on three trails. Also included are picturs from the outlier named Kin Ya'a, just outside Crownpoint, NM.
Monument Valley pictures cover Hiking the Wildcat Trail.
Finally, there are pictures of the Blue Swallow Motel and the Old School Garage in Tucumcari, NM and the Conoco Station in Shamrock, TX after which the service station in the Disney movie Cars was modeled.

McCloskey Speaker Series – New Theories on the Origin of Life with Dr. Eric Smith
Featuring Dr. Eric Smith, professor at the Earth-Life Science Institute in Tokyo and the Santa Fe Institute. For most of the 20th century, complex biological views of evolution have been central to the way scientists think about the origin of life. But progress over the past 40 years in such fields as ocean exploration, microbiology, and planetary science has come together to suggest that life's origin may have been built on a core chemical blueprint. Dr. Smith argues that we need a new understanding of the nature of life, in which the dominant, Darwinian view of a “struggle for existence” comes second, and life at its core came about as a necessary layer of our maturing planet.
Eric Smith began scientific work in high-energy physics, with Bachelor degrees in math and physics from Caltech, and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas in 1993. His work moved increasingly into topics in complex systems, during appointments in the University of Texas and the Los Alamos National Laboratories, culminating in eleven years spent at the Santa Fe Institute. At SFI he began parallel threads of work in non-equilibrium thermodynamics, economics and finance, and the history of human languages, and began studying the geochemistry, biochemistry, and evolution of the earliest life. He is currently a professor and Principle Investigator of the Earth-Life Science Institute in Tokyo, and external professor at SFI. His goal is to understand the origin and nature of the living state through the many windows that science provides on it: the physical, geochemical, biochemical, ecological, and evolutionary.

Beautiful Sedona: Cathedral Rock, Energy Vortices and the Chapel of the Holy Cross
In today's video we're going to visit Montezuma's Castle, and then boondock in the forest. We'll visit the Chapel of the Holy Cross, hike Cathedral Rock (and break my main camera in the process), and one of the famous energy vortices. Finally we will go to Flagstaff, and see the observatory where dwarf planet Pluto was discovered.

The hunt for Forrest Fenn's $2 million hidden treasure
The secret is hidden in a poem that starts like this: Begin it where warm waters halt.
Zack wrote an entire feature filled with maps, illustrated clues, and even more video. You can read and watch here:
Sometime between 2009 and 2010 an 80 year old man by the name of Forrest Fenn trekked out into the Rocky Mountains and hid a bronze chest filled with over $2 million dollars worth of treasure. The secret to the location of the treasure is contained within a six stanza poem. Forrest Fenn's treasure, as it's come to be known, has captivated men, women, and children around the country and world and has lured many people to the Rocky Mountains in the hopes that they'll find the gold.

Chaco Culture National Historical Park is a United States National Historical Park hosting the densest and most exceptional concentration of pueblos in the American Southwest. The park is located in northwestern New Mexico, between Albuquerque and Farmington, in a remote canyon cut by the Chaco Wash. Containing the most sweeping collection of ancient ruins north of Mexico, the park preserves one of the United States' most important pre-Columbian cultural and historical areas.[2]
Between AD 900 and 1150, Chaco Canyon was a major center of culture for the Ancient Pueblo Peoples.[a] Chacoans quarried sandstone blocks and hauled timber from great distances, assembling fifteen major complexes that remained the largest buildings in North America until the 19th century.[2][4] Evidence of archaeoastronomy at Chaco has been proposed, with the Sun Dagger petroglyph at Fajada Butte a popular example. Many Chacoan buildings may have been aligned to capture the solar and lunar cycles,[5] requiring generations of astronomical observations and centuries of skillfully coordinated construction.[6] Climate change is thought to have led to the emigration of Chacoans and the eventual abandonment of the canyon, beginning with a fifty-year drought commencing in 1130.[7]
