Traditional Japanese Ryokan food menu that is definitely worth experiencing if you have never been to Japan. Japanese Onsen also known as hot springs are difficult to find in the Tokyo, but about a 40 minute train ride from Shinagawa station in Tokyo, you can make it to the Atami Onsen and Atami beach area. There are many local onsens and ryokans in this area but this place I am showing you in this video is tattoo friendly meaning that they accept people with tattoos just as long as you are a respectful guest. I also show you the different types of food you can experience and enjoy in a Japanese ryokan for dinner and for breakfast. Also, at this hotel, you can reserve a private onsen bath if you are a bit hesitant to share a public onsen bath with other guests. You can choose to enjoy the private bath before or after dinner. In our case, we chose to take our onsen before our meal. We also venture out of the hotel to have some Atami food, but do to the train we couldn't film that much. We'll definitely have to come back for a full food tour of the area.

Winter CHERRY BLOSSOMS in JAPAN + French Food & Craft Beer | Atami, Japan
Japan is heaven for travel enthusiasts and foodies. During my twelve days in the country in January of 2019, I was blown away by the mind-blowing beauty of its natural, historical, and cultural sites. The history here is long and rich and was so fascinating to learn about, and the food culture is out of this world! Come along with me as I continue exploring the gorgeous country of Japan!
I started off in the resort city of Atami in the Shizuoka Prefecture, which is about a 40-minute drive south from Tokyo. This city is known for its salted fish and its famous cherry blossoms, which bloom months earlier than most other cherry blossoms in the country because the climate is warmer.
Atami has a similar feel to beach towns I’ve visited in Europe. There are palm trees and gardens. It’s warmer here and there’s lots of greenery. We passed by lots of hotels and residential buildings on our way to see the cherry blossoms.
The cherry blossoms are gorgeous! There were about 60 blossom trees in full bloom near the river. They bloom from mid-January to mid-February. While you can see them in the spring, it’s a lot more expensive to come to Japan during that time. If you want to see cherry blossoms in Japan and want to save money, come in January!
After seeing the cherry blossoms, I grabbed an iced black coffee with espresso from a vending machine for 140 Yen/roughly $1.26. Then it was time for lunch at a small and cozy French restaurant!
We started with tomato soup with bread. It was nice and thick and was served piping hot. It almost tasted like an onion soup as well!
My main course was grilled sea bass with potatoes, vegetables, and a nice, creamy sauce, which was also served with rice. The sea bass was lightly battered and was super tasty! I loved it!
I had limited time in Atami, so I quickly finished my lunch and went on a solo exploration of Atami Ginza, the city’s shopping district. On the way, I stopped at a hot spring across the street from the restaurant and a guide to the area’s seven hot springs. Nearby, there’s also a shop that sells dried fish like sardines, shrimp, and squid, as well as wasabi and other items.
Atami Ginza is a long street that has lots of shops, restaurants, and craft beer shops. At another shop, I saw lots of dried fish and other seafood including shrimp, eel, barracuda, fish cakes, scallops, and oysters. It all looked amazing, but I couldn’t try any of it, because it’s meant to be taken home and cooked. Atami is by the water, so seafood is abundant here!
I decided I wanted a craft beer, so I visited Maruya Guesthouse, which is a hostel that sells food and beer. I bought an Atami Dramatic Roman Pale Ale. It was fantastic and the people there were so nice!
I hope you enjoyed coming along with me to see the winter cherry blossoms in Atami and for joining me for my amazing French food and craft beer lunch! If you did, please give it a thumbs up, leave me a comment, and subscribe to my channel so you don’t miss any of my upcoming travel/food adventures!

Atami one of 3rd Great Sea & Hot Spring Resorts in Japan
Atami (熱海), part of Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, is a coastal hot spring resort in Shizuoka prefecture, on the east coast of the Izu Peninsula southwest of Tokyo, Japan.
Atami means hot ocean. The town has been a popular hot spring resort since the 8th century and is ranked as one of Japan's Three Great Hot Springs (三大温泉 Sandaionsen). These days the coastline is heavily developed and covered in identikit concrete hotels, but in summer the sandy beach is popular.
Atami is on the Tokaido Shinkansen main line, just 50 minutes from Tokyo (¥3570 for an unreserved seat)
Atami is also a stop on the regular Tokaido Line which runs from Tokyo (1 3/4 hours to Atami, ¥1890) and continues on to Shizuoka and Hamamatsu.
Atami is a popular day or weekend trip from Tokyo for scuba diving, largely due to its proximity to the city (40 minutes by shinkansen).
Sites feature some spectacular soft corals and sea life including nudibranchs, moray eels, and octopus.
Atami also has one of the only divable wrecks in mainland Japan.
Atami MOA Museum of Art (MOA美術館), opened in 1982 to house some of the collection of eccentric millionaire Mokichi Okada (see box), the displays here run the gamut from Japanese calligraphy to Tang-dynasty pottery, with a roomful of Matisse, a tea room covered in gold leaf and Socialist-realist bronze sculptures thrown in for flavor.
古屋旅館 Furuya Ryokan has pricey but very exquisite large rooms and suites often providing a gorgeous outdoor private hot bath belonging to rooms. The basement has a large common bath and outdoor bath Rotemburo.
Prices per person start at 24,300 yen and include breakfast and dinner.

A Day in Atami, Shizuoka
Went with my friend to Atami in Shizuoka prefecture because they were having hanabi that night. The weather was great (but suuuuper windy) so we had fun just walking around, trying local food, visiting a shrine, playing on the beach, and going to an onsen. According to my friend, Atami isn't an especially popular place and people tend to overlook it, but I had a really great time there and would like to go back sometime.

Japanology Journeys In Japan S06E14 Atami The Spa Revival
Atami, in Shizuoka prefecture, is one of Japan's leading hot spring resorts and is only 45 minutes from Tokyo. The city, which has been a resort for hundreds of years, has seen hard times. Tourism was down from the 1990s to 2011. However, in recent years it has been showing miraculous recovery, and the city is regaining its vibrancy. On Journeys in Japan, American actor Charles Glover gets a sense of Atami through its enterprising residents-some running veteran establishments and others turning to innovation to secure their future. He experiences, and shares, why Atami continues to delight visitors.
Japan Travel: 2019 Atami Night Walk Famous Onsen hot spring town #熱海 in Shizuoka Atami
It is easily accessible from Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka, and has been crowded with tourists as a hot spring resort since the Edo period.
It is located on Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka Prefecture, southwest of Tokyo, facing Sagami Bay. The whole area of Izu Peninsula belongs to Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park where Mt. Fuji is located, and Atami City is also located in a volcanic hilly area. There are many natural hot springs, and it has been famous as a resort for a long time, and there are many public hot spring facilities in the city. Also, there is an artificial sandy beach in Sagami Bay.
We hold fireworks displays in spring, summer, autumn and winter, so you can enjoy them outside of hot springs.
