Athassel Priory County Tipperary
The remains of Athassel Abbey can be found in Golden, a village about 7km from Cashel, County Tipperary. The abbey was built for the Augustinians by William Fitz-Aldhelm de Burgho in the 12th century. It was one of Ireland’s most extensive monasteries, stretching out over beautiful 4 acres of land along the banks of the River Suir Athassel Abbey, an Augustinian monastery established in the 12th century and dedicated to St Edmund.
It is the largest medieval priory found in Ireland. It burnt down in 1447 and the monastery was dissolved in the 1500s.The buildings were subsequently neglected and fell into ruin.
The nave of the Abbey is today used as a cemetery, and among the many bodies laid to rest in the chapel is that of William de Burgho, the man who established Athassel over 800 years ago. What a cool spooky place to be it is mind blowing the sheer size of the area. we loved our day out to the abbey, Enjoy the video and thanks for watching.

Athassel Abbey - Ireland
A short video of the Athassel Abbey ruin in South Tipperary near the town of Golden. This spectacular stone structure sits on the banks of the River Suir south of Golden.
Provided by corsica290: Founded in 1192 by William Fitz Aldem de Burgo, a Norman aristocrat, for the Augustinian Order. Athassel grew to become the largest medieval priory in Ireland and a force in local politics. Unfortunately, this led to friction with the local ruling family, the O'Briens, who put Athassel to the torch in the mid-fifteenth century. Surviving features include the chancel with its lancet windows, multiple carved elements, the remains of the cloister, and the bridge with its associated gatehouse.
Ireland's Office of Public Works, formally presented the Athassel Abbey Conservation Plan which was put into effect in December 2008. It calls for the protection of this extensive site from rain, frost, overgrown vegetation, and flooding from the nearby river, but the future remains constrained by limited finances.

Rock of Cashel, Golden Castle, Athassel Priory
Rock of Cashel – zespół średniowiecznych budowli sakralno-obronnych w Cashel, (hrabstwo Tipperary, Irlandia) położony na stromym wapiennym wzgórzu.
1221. Pierwotne budynki zostały zmienione i odnowione w ciągu następnych 300 lat. Klasztor został spalony dwukrotnie, raz w 1329 roku przez Briana Kinga z Thomond i ponownie w 1581 roku przez Johna Fitzgeralda z Desmond. Duże miasto wyrosło wokół klasztoru, ale zostało zniszczone podczas dwóch nalotów. Zakon został ostatecznie rozwiązany w 1537 roku, a ziemie przekazane Thomasowi Butlerowi, 10. hrabiemu Ormond, który zaniedbał opactwo, a następnie popadło w ruinę
Athassel priory and its history by Dr Tadhg O'Keeffe
The Augustinian priory of Athassel is one of the finest medieval monastic houses to survive from medieval Ireland. It is also one of the least understood. In this lecture, Prof. O'Keeffe presents a fresh analysis of the ruins, explaining the development of different parts of the priory from its foundation to its effective abandonment as a monastery in the fifteenth century. Tadhg O'Keeffe is one of Irelands foremost medieval archaeologists. He is a specialist in medieval archictural history and has published 9 books and more than 140 articles.

DRONE View: Ireland - Rock Of Cashel CASTLE // Дрон --- Ирландия --- ЗАМОК Кашел
The Rock of Cashel, also known as Cashel of the Kings and St. Patrick's Rock, is a historic site located at Cashel, County Tipperary, Ireland.
According to local legends, the Rock of Cashel originated in the Devil's Bit, a mountain 20 miles (30 km) north of Cashel when St. Patrick banished Satan from a cave, resulting in the Rock's landing in Cashel. Cashel is reputed to be the site of the conversion of the King of Munster by St. Patrick in the 5th century.
The Rock of Cashel was the traditional seat of the kings of Munster for several hundred years prior to the Norman invasion.
