Ravenshoe - The Highest Town in Queensland Australia
Ravenshoe, pronounced “Ravens -hoe”, is a town located on the Atherton Tableland in Far North Queensland, Australia, some 123 km (76 miles) south west of Cairns. It is known as the highest town in Queensland at an elevation of 930 metres (3,050 ft) above sea level. The towns has the highest pub (hotel) in Queensland “The Ravenshoe Hotel” (up to 2014 was known as the Tully Falls Hotel).
The area was first settled by pastorialists prior to 1881, however, when stands of red cedar trees were found at nearby Cedar Creek, the mining entrepreneur, John Moffat purchased the pastoral properties and the village of Cedar Creek was established.in 1910 Cedar Creek was renamed Ravenshoe. The name is supposed to have been chosen because a copy of Henry Kingsley’s novel “Ravenshoe” (1862) was found nearby. By 1912 the town had a store, a school, the Club Hotel and a population of 1,000.
The main industry, up to 1987, was timber, when the government made 900,000 hectares od surrounding rainforest world heritage listed. The main industries now are tourism, beef and dairy farming.

Let's have a look around Atherton QLD Australia
Atherton is the largest service centre at the heart of the Atherton Tablelands in Far North Queensland, Australia. The town was first settled by Europeans in the early 1880s as a camp for cedar-cutters. It was first called Prior’s Pocket. Later, in 1885, it was surveyed and renamed Atherton after John Atherton who drove cattle into the area. Town lots were sold in 1886. Atherton became a stopover point from the coast to the Herberton tin fields.
In 1903 the Post Office replaced the receiving office which was established in 1889.
In the 1880s substantial Chinese population lived around the town working the rich soils of the area producing vegetables for the miners.
Over the years Atherton has been the centre for a number of industries on the Tablelands. The rich, red volcanic soils of the area (estimated to be over 30-m deep) have been used to produce maize, potatoes, peanuts, macadamia nuts and avocados. The town has also been important to the local dairy industry with a butter factory opening in 1909 and a large dairy co-operative
The Atherton Magistrate’s Courthouse was constructed in 1941 and was used as a wartime hospital for officers during World War II and has air raid bunkers beneath the building

Let's Take a Look at Mareeba in Far North Queensland
Mareeba, located on the Atherton Tableland in Far North Queensland, Australia, is 417 meters (1,368 ft) above sea level.
Prior to European settlement, the area around Mareeba was inhabited by the Muluridji people.
On 26 May 1875, James Venture Mulligan became the first European officially to see the future site of Mareeba. It was first settled in 1877 by John Atherton, who arrived with cattle at Emerald End, which is just north of the town today. Mareeba quickly became a busy coach stop for Cobb & Co on the road from Port Douglas to Herberton. When the railway arrived in 1893, Mareeba grew into a busy town.
Numerous crops are grown throughout Mareeba Shire, including avocados, mangoes, lychees, longans, sugar cane, cashews, macadamias, bananas, pineapples, tea tree oil, coffee, and a variety of vegetables and tropical fruits. Poultry and cattle are also common. Tobacco was once the main grown crop of the local economy, but is no longer grown within the Mareeba shire. According to the 2016 census, Mareeba includes the largest Italian Australian community of any suburb in Queensland, numbering 1,608 individuals and making up 10.8% of the town's population.
Mareeba boasts that the sun shines 300 days a year.

Cairns Region HD
The region west and south from Cairns is called the (Atherton) Tablelands. With it's volcanic origin it is very fertile. Combined with the 5 to 12 meter rainfall per year this explains the rich vegitation. Most of the original tropical rainforest has been transformed to an agricultural landscape. The remaining pockets of rainforest are now strictly protected and welcome touristic visitors. Many waterfalls and streams.
The freely roaming Casowaries (huge flightless birds) can be seen in some places. They should be approached with great caution. I was attacked while filming the footage at the end of this video.

Cairns - Australia, Part 1
Cairns (Source: Wikipedia)
Cairns is a regional city in the far north of Queensland, Australia, founded 1876. The city was named after William Wellington Cairns, then-current Governor of Queensland. It was formed to serve miners heading for the Hodgkinson River goldfield, but experienced a decline when an easier route was discovered from Port Douglas. It later developed into a railhead and major port for exporting sugar cane, gold and other metals, minerals and agricultural products from surrounding coastal areas and the Atherton Tableland region. As of June 2012, the population is approximately 153,075.
Cairns is located about 1,700 km from Brisbane, and about 2,700 km from Sydney by road. It is a popular travel destination for foreign tourists because of its tropical climate. It serves as a starting point for people wanting to visit the Great Barrier Reef and Far North Queensland.
