Atlantis Marine Park is an abandoned theme park built in 1981 in Two Rocks, a small fishing community 60 kilometres (37 mi) north of Perth, the capital of Western Australia. The park was a major feature of Alan Bond's Yanchep Sun City plan. It closed in August 1990 due to financial difficulty.

History
In the 1970s Bond purchased 20,000 acres of land in Yanchep with a plan to build a large resort and residential area.[2] The Park was constructed in 1981 with the hope that Perth's rapid expansion would be accompanied by an equal growth in tourism. Six months before the park was opened, seven bottlenose dolphins were caught locally and trained as performance animals for the next ten years. The park was opened by the Premier of Western Australia the Hon. Ray O'Connor and the chairman and president of the Tokyu Corporation Mr Noburu Gotoh. In his opening speech Mr Gotoh explained that Atlantis was the first element in an expansion plan to make the Yanchep Sun City a premier leisure recreation region.
In 1988, three female dolphin calves were born, which as a result of changes in regulations for holding marine mammals meant Atlantis would have to construct a larger dolphin enclosure. This, coupled with the park gradually losing money, was the reason for the owners closing Atlantis in August 1990.[3]
Dolphins
Prior to the park's opening, seven bottlenose dolphins were caught from the local coastal population and were used as performance animals for the next ten years. At the time Atlantis closed in 1990, the park had nine dolphins, six wild born, and three captive born juveniles.
With the closure of the park, the owners Tokyu Corporation of Japan agreed to a proposal by Dr. Nick Gales, a marine park veterinarian and research scientist to fully fund the release of the animals to the wild, provided it would end their financial commitment to the dolphins. The project to release the animals into the wild began in March 1991; the rehabilitation program began in the park pools and eventually moved to a sea pen at the Two Rocks Marina in October 1991. The dolphins were fully released into the wild in January 1992.[3]
The initial release encountered problems, with some of the dolphins losing a lot of weight; three of them were recaptured and returned to the sea pen. The three recaptured dolphins were not re-released to the wild, but were relocated to Underwater World (now the Aquarium of Western Australia).[3]
Current situation
King Neptune in 2012.
Since its closure in 1990 the park has been abandoned and vandalised,[4] though the site was featured in the CBBC programme All Over the Place - Australia in March 2014. The site is currently owned by property developers, the Fini Group. A plan has been put forward to the City of Wanneroo to develop the area into a mix of retail, commercial and entertainment land uses. In the plan, key features of the Marine Park such as King Neptune would be retained.
After a several months long restoration, the King Neptune sculpture and surrounding area was reopened to the public in May 2015.[5] The sculpture was previously heritage listed by the Western Australian Heritage Council in 2006.

Atlantis
I made this video as a reminder of times gone by at a marine park called Atlantis that holds a lot of fond memories for everyone who went there and is such a shame that it is gone. But the ruins are still there to this day offering a glimpse of what once was!
Located in Yanchep Two Rocks, Perth, Western Australia and built by Alan Bond, this marine park had it all! For kids growing up in the late 80's and early 90's this place had great water slides, dolphin shows, leopard seal shows, and some crazy pool called the workshop! It was Perth's version of Sea World and Wet n Wild World combined.
Atlantis Marine Park was built in 1981. Six months before the park was opened, 7 bottlenose dolphins were captured from the wild and trained as performance animals. However, with the birth of additional 3 calves, changes in regulations for holding marine animals and the fact that the park was incurring losses, the owners decided to cut losses and closed the park down in 1993 instead of constructing a larger enclosure for the dolphins as required.

Mexico dubs mega marine park 'Galapagos of North America'
The Mexican government is hoping to better protect some of the world's most unique whales, turtles and giant rays, with an enormous marine park in the Pacific. The area is the largest of its kind in North America.
Mexico's government is hoping a new marine park in the Pacific will go a long way towards protecting the likes of giant rays, whales and turtles; some which can't be found outside those waters.
The ocean reserve, which is the size of Illinois, is the largest of its kind in North America.
Mexico's President Enrique Pena Nieto designated on Friday (November 24) the Revillagigedo Archipelago, located some 390 km (242 miles) southeast of the Baja California peninsula, as a national park.
Now all fishing activities will be prohibited, as well as the construction of hotel infrastructure on the islands.
The archipelago, which is sometimes known as the Galapagos of North America, is home to hundreds of species of animals and plants, including rays, humpback whales, sea turtles, lizards and migratory birds.
This marvellous natural protected area, constitutes, for such reasons, an invaluable heritage of Mexico and also an enormous responsibility. To ensure its conservation, the government of the Republic and its president has taken the decision to turn the entire Revillagigedo Archipelago into a national park, which will be the largest in North America, said President Pena Nieto

Mermaids Caught On Camera & Spotted In Real Life

Mermaids are mythical creatures that have had a major presence in our society for quite some time. Little girls dream of becoming mermaids. Well, actually, there are adults who dream about becoming mermaids too! From story books to movies, mermaids are half human from the waist up and half-fish from the waist down. Throughout history, there have been sightings of mermaids in personal journals of sailors and voyagers like Christopher Columbus. But today, it is believed that Columbus may have actually been looking at manatees, not mermaids. Either way, it doesn’t diminish the fact that we, as a society, care deeply about mermaids and want them to be real so badly! While we still wait for that first emergence, people have created life-size replicas and even faux documentaries of mermaids that have convinced us that they are real. There are also cases of real people sitting on rocks in mermaid costumes, like the Active Pass mermaid in British Columbia, Victoria, Canada. When enough people are involved in the hoax, almost anything is possible.
In this video, we will introduce to you some stories of mermaids that have been caught on camera and spotted in real life. Thanks to Animal Planet’s Mermaids: The Body Found, people thought mermaids actually existed. But in reality, the network used creative CGI and amazing special effects to make it look all the more convincing. There are more hoaxes where that came from, so get ready! If anything, these stories prove just how gullible we still are as a society.

EXPLORING NATURE IN LOS CABOS MEXICO WITH CAJAFRESCA
Los Cabos is much more than it seems! Cajafresca and I were sent on a mission to vlog and explore the natural side of Baja California Sur, Mexico. This area is world famous for all-inclusive hotels, partying, and over consumption of tequila. We vowed not to get distracted by the obvious fun, and explore the world famous natural attractions; Whale Watching, Bird Watching, Snorkeling with Whale Sharks... Tons of stuff to do. This trip was an adventure.
Big love to Grupo Presidente, Interjet, and the Holiday Inn Los Cabos for creating this project for us. Awesome brands to check out.
First stop was bird watching and exploring Estero San Jose which was right beside our hotel (here: I was amazed how many species there are here! It's a very important stopping point for many of the migratory species travelling from Northern North America, to the south. There were quiet a few Canadian birds I recognized as well. This was cut short by a turtle sighting. My personal highlight
Whale watching was incredible. I've had been a few times in Canada, but this was one of the best experiences I've had with these animals. Since the Gulf of California is basically a crack in the earth, the beaches drop off very quickly into the depths. Whales can get very close to shore allowing awesome viewing (even from the beach) We went near Cabo San Lucas, wish I could have spent more time there.
Swimming with Whale Sharks was almost an extreme sport. They are the biggest fish in the world, and they eat plankton, one of the smallest. They move deceptively fast despite their slow movements. When swimming with them, the boat drops you off slight in front of them. Your job is to slide into the water, find the shark, and try to keep up.
We had a great time, and we hope you did too!
