Founded in 1983, ATLAS STUDIOS is the biggest Film Studio in Africa (one of the largests in the world), it is located in the west side of the city of Ouarzazate in Morocco. The site is spread over 20 hectares and offers all necessary services and equipments for productions: exterior and interior sets, production offices, workshops, stables with trained animals. More than that, the studio offers accommodation in the Oscar Hotel inside the studio for the stuff and film crew.
Since 1983, the studio was expended many times due to the reliable climate and weather conditions. Many films and TV series used Atlas studios services because of the nature of the area that can mimic the natural environments of many countries

Atlas Film Studios is a 322,000 square-foot studio in southwestern Morocco that is considered to be the largest film studio in the world.
More than 200 major films and television shows have filmed there, including Gladiator, Ben Hur, Kingdom of Heaven, The Mummy, The Passion of the Christ, and, most recently, Game of Thrones and Aladdin.
Located in a stunning red desert landscape, Atlas is often used for itsdramatic landscapes, the relative cheap cost of production, and its promixity to the striking medieval ksar of Aït Benhaddou, also a popular filming location.

- Este cenário só podia ser realmente de cinema! Estamos em Ouarzazate, uma cidade no sul do Marrocos. Ela é a porta para o deserto do Saara. Quase não existem indústrias e comércio na cidade. Em compensação, as paisagens formam um cenário perfeito para os filmes de tempos romanos e medievais.
- As grandes produtoras de televisão e cinema já se deram conta disso. Tanto que filmes famosos foram gravados por aqui. Basta passear pela cidade e você vai ver alguns registros. A imagem deste quadro, por exemplo... Você a reconhece ? É a arena do filme Gladiador!
- A lista de filmes em Ouarzazate é extensa e ela chega até às séries de tevê!
A última gravação aqui, por exemplo, foi em 2012, perto do rio, onde gravaram a série Guerra dos Tronos.
- Muitas famílias que vivem em Ouarzazate trabalham como artesãos e construtores, produzindo figurino e cenários para os filmes. Essa é uma das formas mais comuns de ganhar dinheiro na cidade, além do turismo. Na rota turística está o patrimônio mundial da humanidade Kasbah Taourirt. Mas não é fácil falar esse nome, nem chegar até o topo.
Agora a gente entende por que os filmes de guerra são gravados aqui. O cenário é perfeito! Tem muito, muito vento, as pedras voam... Parece que a gente vai ser carregado por tudo isso.
- Para preservar a memória da cidade, foi criado o museu do cinema. A enorme claquete no centro de Ouarzazate não esconde o seu potencial cultural. Nos resta dizer então: luz, câmera, ação!

Tres horas y media de sinuosas carreteras a través del paisaje impresionante de los Atlas separan Marrakech de Ouarzazate, conocida como el Hollywood marroquí por su actividad volcada en el cineOuarzazate, esta ciudad enclavada en medio de la nada, no tendría especial interés si no fuera por estos estudios de cine y la maravillosa -y algo descuidada- kasbah; como además se encuentra en la ruta de camino hacia la ciudad fortificada de Ait Ben Haddou, Ouarzazate se ha convertido en uno de los lugares más visitados de Marruecos y está considerada la puerta del desierto, pues desde allí parten las rutas por el Sahara.
Desde hace varias décadas, Ouarzazate vive volcada en el cine. Fue durante el rodaje de Lawrence de Arabia cuando los productores se convencieron de que había que fundar unos estudios de cine permanentes en este lugar de enorme potencial: sus variados paisajes, desde el árido desierto hasta los valles de palmerales, convierten los Atlas Studios en un enorme plató adaptable a todo tipo de escenarios.
Además de la ya citada Lawrence de Arabia (David Lean, 1962), también pasaron por los estudios de Ouarzazate los actores de Astérix y Obélix: Misión Cleopatra (Alain Chabat, 2002); los de Star Wars (en su versión más clásica, la de 1977) y los de La Joya del Nilo (Lewis Teague, 1985); también Brad Pitt y Cate Blanchett para rodar aquel angustioso episodio narrado en Babel (Alejandro González Iñárritu, 2006).
El caza “utilizado” por Michael Douglas en “La Joya del Nilo” es una de las reliquias conservadas en estos estudios.
Un habitual de estos estudios es Ridley Scott, que rodó aquí Gladiator (2000), Black Hawk Derribado (2001) y El Reino de los Cielos (2005)
Además, pasaron por aquí los equipos de rodaje de La Momia (Stephen Sommers, 1999), que dejaron de recuerdo un impresionante templo egipcio; el de Kundun (Martin Scorsese, 1997) y el de ese disparate histórico que fue Alejandro Magno (Oliver Stone, 2004).
Hasta el mismísimo agente 007 de The Living Daylights (John Glen, 1987) estuvo trabajando en los estudios. Incluso National Geographic se ha servido de estos platós para rodar algunos de sus documentales.
Una de las últimas producciones rodadas en los Studios Atlas ha sido la película Prince of Persia: las Arenas del Tiempo, y también varias escenas de Juego de Tronos.
