☆Bits of knowledge〜Electric Town Akiba〜
Post WWII, Akihabara Station became synonymous with a black market for radio parts and other electronics. After the 1960s and '70s when the district was the place to hunt for bargains on new and used electronics, Akihabara saw its top shopping mantle increasingly usurped by discount stores elsewhere in the city. It has long since bounced back by reinventing itself as the centre of the otaku (geek) universe, catching J-pop culture fans in its gravitational pull.
Now you are as likely to find intricately designed plastic models of anime characters, self-penned pornographic comics and cosplay outfits as you are electric circuits, fuses and wires in the place locals call Akiba. To make some sense of it all pick up an English map at Tokyo Anime Center Akiba Info ; the helpful staff here also speak English.

☆Bits of knowledge〜Electric Appliances In Akiba〜
The Akihabara Electric Town (Akiba Denki-Gai) the street in Tokyo has wholesale shops selling big appliances, microscopic components and more. It's famous for buying various electric appliances cheaper than other place. Nowadays, electronics stores in Akiba is dacaying in comparison to 1990s in Japan because they lost to big electronics retail stores and online shops in price competition. However, many shops in Akiba sell electronic parts and junk which big electronics retail stores don't sell, so Akihabara Electric Town is best in the world in that scene. Indeed, it's a common saying in Japan that you give up the electronic parts you want if you can't find them in Akiba.

Yodobashi Camera
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Yodobashi Camera Co.,Ltd. (ヨドバシカメラ) is a chain store mainly selling electronic products. Currently, there are 21 stores in Japan. It also maintains two online stores in China; one with a limited selection of products from its Japanese online store through SBI VeriTrans that supports payments by UnionPay, and another it operates itself that does not but has a selection more closely matching its Japanese store.
The store's theme song is a bouncy cover of The Battle Hymn of the Republic.
Akihabara
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Akihabara (Japanese: 秋葉原), also known as Akihabara Electric Town (Japanese: 秋葉原電気街 Hepburn: Akihabara Denki Gai), is a district of Tokyo, Japan. It is located less than five minutes by rail from Tokyo Station. Its name is frequently shortened to Akiba (アキバ) in Japan. While there is an official locality named Akibahara, which is also 秋葉原 in kanji, nearby (as part of Taitō-ku), the area known to most people as Akihabara (including the railway station of the same name) also include Soto-Kanda, a part of Chiyoda-ku.
Akihabara is a major shopping area for electronic, computer, anime, games and otaku goods, including new and used items. New items are mostly to be found on the main street, Chūōdōri, with many kinds of used items found in the back streets of Soto Kanda 3-chōme. New parts for PC-building are readily available from a variety of stores. Tools, electrical parts, wires, microsized cameras and similar items are found in the cramped passageways of Soto Kanda 1-chōme (near the station). Foreign tourists tend to visit the big name shops like Laox or other speciality shops near the station, though there is more variety and lower prices at locales a little further away. Akihabara gained some fame through being home to one of the first stores devoted to personal robots and robotics.
The area was just out of Sujikai-gomon city gate (present Mansei bridge) which was one of the city gates (Mitsuke) of old Edo (Tokyo). It was the gateway from inner Edo to northern and northwestern Japan and Kan'ei-ji temple in Ueno. Many dealers, craftsmen and relatively lower class samurai lived there.

------------------------------
Akihabara (Japanese: 秋葉原) is a common name for the area around Akihabara Station in the Chiyoda ward of Tokyo, Japan. Administratively, the area called Akihabara mainly belongs to the Sotokanda (外神田) and Kanda-Sakumachō districts in Chiyoda. There exists an administrative district called Akihabara in the Taitō ward further north of Akihabara Station, but it is not the place people generally refer to as Akihabara.
The name Akihabara is a shortening of Akibagahara (秋葉が原, autumn leaf field), which ultimately comes from Akiba (秋葉), named after a fire-controlling deity of a firefighting shrine built after the area was destroyed by a fire in 1869.
Akihabara gained the nickname Akihabara Electric Town (秋葉原電気街 Akihabara Denki Gai) shortly after World War II for being a major shopping center for household electronic goods and the post-war black market. Nowadays, Akihabara is considered by many to be an otaku cultural center and a shopping district for video games, anime, manga, and computer goods. Icons from popular anime and manga are displayed prominently on the shops in the area, and numerous maid cafés are found throughout the district.
- HISTORY:
The area that is now Akihabara was once near a city gate of Edo and served as a passage between the city and northwestern Japan. This made the region a home to many craftsmen and tradesmen, as well as some low class samurai. One of Tokyo's frequent fires destroyed the area in 1869, and the people decided to replace the buildings of the area with a shrine called Chinkasha (now known as Akiba Shrine (秋葉神社 Akiba Jinja)), meaning fire extinguisher shrine, in an attempt to prevent the spread of future fires. The locals nicknamed the shrine Akiba after the deity that could control fire, and the area around it became known as Akibagahara and later Akihabara. After Akihabara Station was built in 1888, the shrine was moved to the Taitō ward where it still resides today.
Since its opening in 1890, Akihabara Station became a major freight transit point, which allowed a vegetable and fruit market to spring up in the district. Then, in the 1920s, the station saw a large volume of passengers after opening for public transport, and after World War II, the black market thrived in the absence of a strong government. This disconnection of Akihabara from government authority has allowed the district to grow as a market city and given rise to an excellent atmosphere for entrepreneurship.
In the 1930s, this climate turned Akihabara into a future-oriented market region specializing in household electronics, such as washing machines, refrigerators, televisions, and stereos, earning Akihabara the nickname Electric Town.
As household electronics began to lose their futuristic appeal in about the 1980s, the shops of Akihabara shifted their focus to home computers at a time when they were only used by specialists and hobbyists. This new specialization brought in a new type of consumer, computer nerds or otaku.
The market in Akihabara naturally latched onto their new customer base that was focused on anime, manga, and video games. The connection between Akihabara and otaku has survived and grown to the point that the region is now known worldwide as a center for otaku culture, and some otaku even consider Akihabara to be a sacred place.

AMAZING! Old 1979 Mitsubishi Elepet Traction Elevator@Hashikatsu Building, Akihabara, Tokyo, Japan
10 million views on my channel, thank you very much!
Filmed in January 2016. This is really amazing - a completely original late 1970s Mitsubishi Elepet elevator, and it's in good condition! It hasn't been modernized yet, but the interior was protected due to some renovations going on in the building. The building was completed in December 1979, but according to one source, it was completed in January 1980.

Very Nice Old 1968 (mod 1992) Mitsubishi Tr. Elevators@Seibu Department Store A, Shibuya, Tokyo, JP
There are two very busy elevators in this lobby, and also 4 (or more) others, but I didn't film them, because they had been modernized in 2006 or later. The Seibu department store (A-building) was opened in 1968 and has been renovated since then. According to someone who has filmed these two elevators before, these elevators were modernized in 1992. They have an older kind of floor announcement.
Location: Seibu Department Store A-building (西武渋谷店A館, 西武渋谷店,21-1 Udagawacho,Shibuya, Tokyo 150-8330,Japani), Shibuya, Tokyo Metropolis, Japan
