Driving in Japan takes time. You nearly never get anywhere fast. and it nearly always takes forever! Our drive today takes us on a normal rout from Ota, Gunma to Urawa, Saitama.

Urawa (浦和市 Urawa-shi) was a city located in Saitama Prefecture, Japan.
On May 1, 2001, Urawa was merged with the cities of Ōmiya and Yono to create the city of Saitama.
Since April 1, 2003, the area of former Urawa City has been divided into 4 wards: Urawa-ku, Midori-ku, Minami-ku and Sakura-ku of Saitama City. The city hall and the prefectural government building are located in Urawa-ku.

A suburban area of Tokyo rich in nature and with many tourist sites
Area Characteristics
Saitama is an inland prefecture with more than 7 million people. With an area of 3,797km2（1,466mile2）, it is bigger than the 179th-biggest nation of Samoa（2,842km2＝1,097mile2）. Access to the southern part of the prefecture which includes Omiya and Urawa is excellent as a bedroom community of Tokyo while the northern area which includes the city of Chichibu has plenty of nature.
Major Sites
Saitama Prefecture has Chichibu-Tama-Kai National Park among many other sightseeing sites to enjoy nature including the downstream area of Nagatoro Gorge. Along with the landmarks of Saitama New Urban Center and Saitama Super Arena, there is a great variety of spots to see such as The Railway Museum, Bonsai Village and Kawagoe which has been dubbed “Little Edo”.
Food
Soka senbei (rice crackers), Kawagoe potato cakes and Kumagaya gokabo sweets are the 3 famous confections of Saitama. Furthermore, the prefecture is also famous as a treasure house for its comfort food including Kitamoto tomato curry which won a national curry contest, Hatogaya yakiudon (fried udon noodles) which has been recognized as one of the Top 5 yakiudon in Japan, and a form of karaage (deep-fried chicken) whose breading is made from Soka senbei. As well, there is Sayama tea which is among the Top 3 teas in the country and Coedo beer from Kawagoe which has even won acclaim abroad.
Transportation
There are 15 railways operated by JR and private corporations going from Tokyo into Saitama, so these are recommended over buses and cars. It’s customary to take the train from Tokyo Station for Omiya via Ueno or go through Ikebukuro to reach Kawagoe and Chichibu. Although Saitama has plenty of north-south lines, it has a dearth of east-west lines so if you are considering touring through the prefectural sightseeing spots, renting a car is convenient.

【調神社の七不思議】
1. 鳥居がない。（境内へ伊勢神宮への貢物を運び入れる時に邪魔になり鳥居を建てないことにした。）
2. 松の木がない。（一説に弟神須佐之男命(すさのおのみこと)が大宮へ出かけ、なかなか戻って来ないので姉神の月読命(つくよみのみこと)が「もうまつのはいやじゃ」といったのがその理由とのこと。）
3. 御手洗の池の魚は片目になる。
4. 狛犬のかわりにウサギ像が置かれている。（「つき」を「月」と考え、ウサギを神の使姫とする習慣からである。）
5. 日蓮上人駒つなぎのケヤキ。（日蓮が佐渡へ流される途中、難産の婦人のためこのケヤキに馬を繋ぎ、祈ったところ男子を無事出産したので、安産の守護神として今に信仰されている。）
6. ハエがいない。（調神社の祭神が嫌うためとのこと。）
7. 蚊がいない。（ハエと同じ理由。）
【The Seven Wonders of Tsuki Shrine】
1. There is no torii gate. (When I brought tribute to Ise Grand Shrine to the precincts, I got in the way and decided not to build a torii gate.) )
2. There are no pine trees. (The reason is that the younger brother Susanoo's life goes out to Omiya, and because it does not come back easily, the moon reading of the elder sister god (Tsukuyomi) is I don't like it anymore.) )
3. The fish in Mitarai's pond becomes one eye.
4. A rabbit statue is placed instead of a Shiba Inu. (It is from the custom of thinking of Tsuki as moon and making rabbits the envoys of God.) )
5. Nichiren Kamijinkoma-no-Kiyaki. (On the way to Sado, Nichiren connected a horse to this zelkova for a difficult-to-birth woman, and when she prayed, she gave birth to a boy safely, so she is now believed as a guardian of safe delivery.) )
6. There are no flies. (It is said that it is because the festival god of the shinshrine dislikes it.) )
7. Mosquitoes are not there. (Same reason as flies.) )

Japan: Tsuki Jinja shrine in Urawa-ku, Saitama city (1/2) 2013-04-23(Tue)0954hrs1
- Tsukinomiya Shrine of Shintoism is the representative shrine of Urawa and their chronicle claims that the shrine was founded in 156 BC though hardly anyone believes that. The official name is Tsuki Jinja, but few locals call it that way. It is an eccentric shrine in that the main entrance has no Torii gate. No komainu lion-dogs greet you there, either. Instead one is welcomed by stony rabbits that are associated with the worship of the moon. Unlike other Shinto shrines there are no pine (matsu) trees on the premises. Legends has it that a Shinto god had an appointment with another god at the site of the shrine. He waited and waited but the other god never appeared. He shouted, There's nothing more annoying than matsu (waiting)! So he cut off all the matsu (pine) trees in rage and came home. Thus there are no pine trees on the ground even to this day.
調宮(つきのみや)は浦和で最も代表的な神社であり、開化天皇の治世の3年目（紀元前156年）に創建されたと社傳は述べてゐるが、實際のところは疑はしい。正式名稱は調神社(つきじんじゃ)であるが、地元民はまず此名稱では呼ばない。入口に鳥居も狛犬もなく、代はりに兎が入口を守つてゐるのが興味深い。調(つき)が月と同じ読みであることから月待信仰と結びついたとの由。亦、他の神社とは異なり松の木が生えてゐない。傳承によれば或る神がこの神社で別の神と待ち合はせをしたが、何時まで経つても相手が現れない。痺れを切らした一方が「マツほど嫌な物は無い」とのたまつて松の木を全て切り倒したとの由。爾來此神社に松は無い。
