Auckland Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia
Auckland – The most populous of New Zealand’s cities with the attractions to match. Check out the best things to do in the city and start planning a trip of your own!
When ready, browse vacation packages to Auckland:
An #Auckland #vacation leaves visitors spoilt for choice for activities. The city marries modern art and buildings with nature, and the surrounding region has plenty of its own attractions to offer.
Auckland is called the City of Sails, boasting more boats per capita than anywhere else in the world. Nestled between two natural harbors, it’s no wonder residents and visitors alike enjoy spending time on the water.
Just outside the city are rolling hills, jagged cliffs, and forests with towering treetops. Walk through the Hauna Ranges and be rewarded with the Hunua Falls, an impressive waterfall rushing over a volcanic edge.
Adventure-seekers must head to the downtown Sky Tower before leaving New Zealand. This is the tallest man-made building in the entire country – it offers a breathtaking base jump from the top and an observation platform for views of the city and harbor.
For now, we hope you enjoy watching this #travel #guide as much as we enjoyed making it.

Hobbit Fan Fellowship Contest (My Footage) - Epic New Zealand Movie Tour
This is my collection of some of the best or most scenic moments from our trip to New Zealand in November 2014 as winners of the Hobbit Fan Fellowship Contest. We were taken on the tour of a lifetime through some of the best landscapes New Zealand has to offer, by a fantastic crew, including Tourism NZ and Air New Zealand - and that's not paid placement, they were really that lovely! Everything is shown in the order it happened, but you'll have to excuse my first-time filming - I hadn't quite got the hang of holding the camera still, and we were in vehicles a LOT of the time. :P
-------------------------------------------------
I've included a breakdown of what happened each day, but to read much more please visit my blog:
You can also view my humble winning entry here:
-------------------------------------------------
Day 1: All the winners from around the world have arrived in Auckland. We enjoy a huge breakfast and are welcomed by a couple of CEOs. Five buses take us all through rolling hills to Rotorua. That evening we enjoy a Maori cultural experience and traditional cooking, and check out our bags of loot!
Day 2: The morning starts with adventure activities in Rotorua (I was too sleepy to participate!) and a buffet lunch. We then check out the information centre in Matamata, and the gift shop at the Hobbiton Set. We spend the rest of the day touring Hobbiton and end up at the Green Dragon for a party, including being the first audience for the final trailer of the Battle of the Five Armies. Some of the dwarf cast sing the Misty Mountains song for us, and the day ends with a fireworks display and nighttime set tour.
Day 3: We fly straight down to Queenstown; everybody is blown away by the gorgeous landscapes. We pile into 4-wheel drives with Nomad Safaris, and travel up to Queenstown Hill, and then straight down into the Glenorchy region and Paradise, the filming location used for things like Isengard and Beorn's house. Following that we check out the Twelve Mile Delta area, used for things like Ithilien. The rest of the group went bungy jumping that evening, but we took a quiet dinner in town!
Day 4: Various activities are organised for the groups, and we end up on a wine tour of the Central Otago region with Appellation Station. We stopped in Arrowtown and a couple of wineries. Later on Adam and I took the Queenstown gondola up the mountain, and then enjoyed watching the sun set by Lake Wakatipu.
Day 5: Stunning snowy views as our company fly up to Wellington, welcomed by Richard Taylor for the unveiling of the airport's final display (Smaug). We enjoy presentations in the Roxy Theatre by Daniel Falconer and Matt Aitken, then check out the Weta Warehouse for props and activities presented by crew members. Many of us are also very excited to get to the Weta Cave and shop for the first time. At this point (and sometimes earlier), no recording or photos of any kind are allowed, so the ending may seem a little anti-climactic! Our company are taken to the Park Road Post production facility where we're welcomed by Peter Jackson, Philippa Boyens and so on, and become the first audience for the third film, in a somewhat raw and unfinished form, a month before its release. They give us a Q&A session and all get to meet Peter briefly. We are all so grateful for everything that was planned and given to us!
-------------------------------------------------
Pieces from the soundtracks (in order) used include:
- Bilbo's Song
- A Very Respectable Hobbit
- Dreaming of Bag End
- The Shire
- The King of the Golden Hall
- Beyond the Forest
- Feast of Starlight
- Beyond the Forest
- The Road Goes Ever On
Auckland - City Video Guide
Welcome to Auckland. The native Māori people named the area Tāmaki Makaurau, meaning desired by a hundred men. The attraction is still there today, because Auckland is now the most populous city in New Zealand.
In the City of Sails you are always surrounded by water, as becomes clear when you stand on the top of the top of Mount Eden. A nice inner-city beach is Mission Bay.
Other visitor attractions in Auckland include the stately Auckland War Memorial Museum in Auckland Domain park. Daredevils can base jump from the Sky Tower. Children will love the Rainbow's End theme park and the Auckland Zoo. Auckland has many diverse neighborhoods, such as hip Ponsonby and laid-back Devonport. From the city, you can set sail to the forest reserve of Rangitoto Island and Waiheke island with its wineries.
Auckland gives access to the scenic coastline of the country's volcanic North Island. On the other side of the Waitakere Ranges regional parkland is Piha Beach.
The city's unique Māori influence combined with its comfortable urban facilities and rugged nature make it worthwhile to travel to the far southwest of the Pacific Ocean to see Auckland.
NEW ZEALAND WINES MASTERCLASS - BEYOND MARLBOROUGH WITH REBECCA GIBB MW
Rebecca Gibb MW hosts a masterclass on the wines of New Zealand, giving an entertaining whistle-stop tour that takes in Central Otago, Hawke’s Bay and Nelson. In this video, you'll learn that New Zealand isn’t just Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, explore the regional climates and understand how that affects wine style. New Zealand is such a young wine-producing region and has been going through a winemaking revolution in the last 30 years. The wines are getting better and better as the vines - and the winemaker - become more mature! Featuring wines from Amisfield, Sacred Hill and Seifried.

Auckland Travel Guide - Amazing New Zealand experience
Auckland Travel Guide - Amazing New Zealand experience
Auckland is a modern cosmopolitan city with a population of 1.45 million people — roughly one third of New Zealand's entire population reside in Auckland. In the centre, the iconic Sky Tower has views of Viaduct Harbour, which is full of superyachts and lined with bars and cafes. Auckland Domain, the city’s oldest park, is based around an extinct volcano and home to the formal Wintergardens. Near Downtown, Mission Bay Beach has a seaside promenade.
The city and suburbs have developed within the same time frame and similar urban patterns as California (Los Angeles and Auckland have shared urban planning designs and are sister cities). Today the city and suburbs sprawl over a large urban area, hemmed to the east and west by two large harbours (Waitemata and Manukau) and ocean (Pacific Ocean and Tasman Sea) beyond.
Auckland is in a temperate climate zone and does not experience hot or cold extremes at any time of year. The summer months are December to March. The sun is very strong during this time and it is advisable to use sunscreen and cover skin from prolonged exposure. April to June brings cooler temperatures and rain toward the end of June which persists through winter until September and October.
If you want to explore Auckland's more distant suburbs, it's possible to take a service from the CBD to a hub where information and further connections are available. Hubs are located in larger suburban centres - retail malls, entertainment facilities and (depending on destination) beaches are never far away. The bigger hubs are (buses only unless otherwise indicated):

Day 74: Today we are going to show you what the free New Zealand Parliament Tour in Wellington is really like as part of our 365 Days: 365 Activities.
Yesterday - Day 73 -
Tomorrow – Day 75 –
About this video:
Today we are checking out the New Zealand Parliament Tour in Wellington!
We are making our way into the city centre of Wellington, New Zealand and the first thing we are going to check out is the New Zealand Parliament Tour at the Parliament buildings. It’s a free thing to do in Wellington!
However, when we arrive at the New Zealand Parliament buildings and the Wellington Beehive, we find out that absolutely no cameras or even phones are allowed... Well, this is awkward.
All we can really show you is the awesome exterior architecture of Wellington’s famous Beehive building, which is not included in the tour by the way. We tour the New Zealand Parliament buildings such as the library, earthquake proofing in the basement and the house of representatives.
We learn a little bit of history on the New Zealand Parliamant Tour along the way.
So what do you think of the New Zealand Parliament Tour in Wellington? Is this free activity something you would do in Wellington?

Tour inside the Church of Scientology Auckland. The historic site, originally established in 1844, was later expanded in 1927 as the Trinity Methodist Theological College to train theologians of the Christian faith, who later carried their missions throughout the Pacific Rim. In its new incarnation, as a spiritual center for Scientologists of all New Zealand, it brings full circle the ideas of faith and spirituality under the tenets of Scientology’s goals of a world free of war and want, and committed to humanitarian aims.
