Raised in middle-class Sydney, Katie Lang’s future was almost assured – exciting and prosperous. But her big mistake was to fall in love with the wrong man. Katie thought Damion Baston wanted to be her boyfriend. What he really wanted was to be her pimp. He used violence to control her, turning her into a sex slave and trafficking her around the world. LONG LOST FAMILY KLAASSEN
My father's name is Marinus.Johannus.Klaassen was born in Holland on the 22-9-1924 who came to Australia in 1961 with 8 children. The oldest siblings name is Harry, then came Robert, Richard, Desiree, Martin, George, Alex, and Steve and Michael were born in Australia. But without a single photo of his parents and he was one of 16 brothers and sisters. What I do know is that two died in the second world war. And I have absolutely no idea what my grandparents and my uncles and aunties look like, and I would surely like to know. Hopefully, someone out there recognises these photos of my parents and would like to share some family history.

Mijn vader Marinus, Johannes, Klaassen werd geboren op 22-09-1924. Mijn ouders zijn in 1961 van uit de Trekweg in Den Haag met 8 kinderen geëmigreerd naar Australië, (ik Robert Klaassen was toen 10 jaar) zonder enige foto van zijn ouders en 16 zussen en broers. Wat ik weet is dat er vermoedelijk 2 in de tweede wereld oorlog zijn gestorven. Ik heb absoluut geen idee hoe mijn grootouders mijn ooms en tantes er uitzien dit Ik zou dol graag willen weten.
Hopelijk is er iemand of weet iemand die wat van de foto's kan herkennen zodat we de familiegeschiedenis kan delen.
Ms. Cassandra Leealan Lang on Indigenous Cultural Heritage
Ms. Cassandra Leealan Lang is from the Bundjalung People – an Australian Aboriginal Group. She holds a Bachelor of Justice Studies and Laws in Queensland University of Technology. In her role as lawyer often requires to sit at the negotiation table with Traditional Owner groups to negotiate access agreements under the Native Title Act 1993, to develop and negotiate agreements that protect their Cultural Heritage under the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2003.
Cassandra works at Gilkerson Legal (Firm practicing Commonwealth Jurisdiction mostly in remote areas of Queensland) and she's the Vice President of the Indigenous Lawyers’ Association of Queensland’s (ILAQ). This role includes building relationship with professionals and universities in order to create pathways for upcoming Indigenous legal practitioners.
She has spent the last 6 years specializing in Indigenous Law, particularly native titles and Indigenous Cultural Heritage. She has assisted Traditional Owner groups in the Surat, Bowen, Galilee and Torres Strait regions to negotiate access agreements under the Native Title Act 1993.
Recently, she was part of a team that assisted the Meriam People of Mer Island to successfully have Torres Strait Islander freehold granted under the Torres Strait Islander Land Act 1991 (Qld).
From youth empowerment in Canada to protection of cultural heritage in Australia; from income generating activities in Cameroon to advocating about women’s rights in Papua New Guinea and in India - watch six exceptionally inspiring indigenous women as they share their personal stories, their concerns, and their aspirations for indigenous communities around the world. Listen as they share the reasons that motivated them to dedicate their lives to advocating about the rights of indigenous peoples.
The interviews were conducted on behalf of the United Nations Division for Social Policy and Development of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs, during the 14th session of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, which took place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from April 20 to May 1, 2015.
The interviewees are participating at the 2015 Program on Human Rights and International Advocacy Skills of the Global Leadership School of Indigenous Women through the International Indigenous Women's Forum/Foro Internacional de Mujeres Indígenas (FIMI). FIMI’s mission is to bring together indigenous women leaders and human rights activists from different parts of the world to coordinate agendas, build capacity, and to develop leadership roles. FIMI encourages indigenous women's participation in international decision-making processes by ensuring the consistent and serious inclusion of indigenous women’s perspectives in all discussions regarding human rights.

Our Aunties & Uncles, digital stories project.
The Our Aunties and Uncles Digital Stories Project was supported through funding from the Australian Government's Your Community Heritage Program.
The project aimed to record the stories of four significant Elders in Logan in their own voices. The Elders were selected through consultation with the Nyeumba-Meta Advisory Group. The stories of Uncle Reg Knox, Aunty Eileen Williams, Aunty Robyn Williams and Aunty Flora Cook were filmed and recorded during 2013.
Eileen and Robyn Williams are Yugambeh Elders who live in Logan City.
