Vangen Church (Aurland), Church in Aurland, Norway
Vangen Church (Norwegian: Vangen kyrkje) is the main parish church in Aurland Municipality in Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway. It is located in the village of Aurlandsvangen, at the end of the Aurlandsfjorden. The church is part of the Vangen parish in the Indre Sogn deanery in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, stone church, which is in early Gothic style, was probably built in two stages in the 1200s. There is a foundation stone in the church on which the date 2 May 1202 is inscribed. The church was restored both in 1861-1862 and in 1926
Vangen church is the largest of the seven medieval stone churches in the county, leading it to be called the Sognedomen or Sogn Cathedral.
Aurland is a municipality in the county of Sogn og Fjordane, Norway. It is located on the south side of the Sognefjorden in the traditional district of Sogn. The administrative center is the village of Aurlandsvangen. Other villages include Bakka, Flåm, Undredal, and Gudvangen.

Wiki: Aurlandsdalen (or the Aurlandsdal) is a glacially-formed Norwegian valley that is about 40 kilometres (25 mi) in length (Geiteryggen-Vassbygdi). The valley is situated in Aurland municipality in Sogn og Fjordane county, to the south of the Sognefjorden. One of the best-known tourist tracks in Norway follows the valley from Geiteryggen just across the border of Hol municipality and north east to Aurlandsvangen at the Aurlandsfjorden in Sogn. The valley narrows and becomes a tight, dramatic Western Norway valley. It combines glacially carved valleys with diverse plant species, and a number of cultural monuments in the form of old farms and mountain dairy farms (regionally called støls) to form a recognized tourist attraction. The richness in plant species is due to both the soil, rich in minerals formed from phyllitt in the rocks and cultural influence through the centuries.
The upper part of the river running through the valley is called Stemberdøla; in the lower part it is called Aurlandselvi.[1] The route from Aurland to Hol has been the shortest connection between western and eastern Norway since prehistoric times. Thus the valley has been an important connection line for commercial journeys and cattle drives through and along the valley and over the surrounding mountain highlands.
Dancing Huldra of Kjossfossen
Kjosfossen is a waterfall located in Aurland municipality in Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway and one of the most visited tourist attractions in Norway. The celebrated Flåm Line, often recognised as one of the most beautiful railway journeys in the world, has a purpose-built platform where tourists can come out and experience the majestic waterfall from close quarters. The operators of the Flåm Railway are intent on underscoring the surreal nature of the setting as during the main tourist season in the summer an actress dressed as a legendary Huldra (a seductive forest creature in Scandinavian folklore) dances and sings in front of the waterfall as the trains enter the station for the amusement of the tourists.

Borgund Stave Church is a stave church located in the village of Borgund in the municipality of Lærdal, Norway. This is also the best preserved of Norway's 28 extant stave churches.It is now used as a museum and it is run by the Society for the Preservation of Ancient Norwegian Monuments.Borgund Stave Church was built sometime between 1180 and 1250 AD with later additions and restorations.

Flåm is a village in Flåmsdalen, at the inner end of the Aurlandsfjorden—a branch of Sognefjorden. The village is located in the municipality of Aurland in Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway. The village of Flåm has since the late 19th century been a tourist destination. It currently receives almost 450,000 visitors a year. Most ride the 20-kilometre (12 mi) Flåm Line between Flåm and Myrdal, one of the steepest railway tracks at 1 in 18 (not counting rack railways) in the world. There are also a few spirals.[7] A former rail station building in Flåm now houses a museum dedicated to the Flåm railway.

Undredal, Village in Norway
Undredal is a small village in the municipality of Aurland in Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway. The popular tourist destination of Undredal is located along the Aurlandsfjorden which is a branch off the massive Sognefjorden in Norway's fjord-country. It sits along the Aurlandsfjorden, about 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) south of the mouth to the Nærøyfjord. Undredal is home to the smallest stave church in Northern Europe, Undredal Stave Church.
With a population of approximately 100 people and 500 goats, Undredal is famous for the brown goat cheese (geitost) that is still produced the traditional way. The production of cheese is important to the local economy as eight farms produce 10 to 12 short tons (9,100 to 10,900 kg) of cheese each year. Goat sausage is also produced locally.

We arrived to a scenic cultural landscape of the Flåm Valley located in the municipality of Aurland in Norway.We pitched out tents immediately wasting no time and wondered off to explore this beautiful surreal place. Everything was perfect including the weather.
An unmissable sightseeing trip for any visitor to Flåm is the panoramic view of Aurlandsfjord from the Stegastein viewpoint. Buses go there frequently. The Flåm Railway considered to be one of Norway's most spectacular tourist attractions attracts visitors from around the world.
One can view a panorama of some of the wildest and most magnificent mountain scenery in Norway at any time of the year. If rivers carving their way through deep gorges, waterfalls leaping off steep mountainsides with snow-covered mountain peaks, as well as mountain farms clinging to steep slopes is your kind of thing, then definitely make sure to experience the Flam railway one day. We have too many favourite places to name in Norway but Flam definitely is highly recommended to visit.

Slogen is a mountain rising up from Hjørundfjorden in the municipality of Ørsta in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. Even though it is not among the highest peaks in Norway, the 1,564-metre (5,131 ft) tall mountain is rated among the TOP 10 mountain walks in Norway. This is largely due to its beauty, view, and the fact that it's rising directly from the fjord. Slogen is one of the most characteristic peaks in Sunnmøre, it is called Queen of Sunnmøre Mountains.
The Fjords of Norway - World Heritage
UNESCO has included the fjords of Norway, exemplified by the Nærøyfjord and the Geirangerfjord, on its renowned World Heritage List. The Geirangerfjord and Nærøyfjord now enjoy the same recognition as the Great Wall of China, the Great Pyramids of Egypt, Zambias Victoria Falls and the Grand Canyon in USA.
The west Norwegian fjords are classic, superbly developed fjords, considered as the type locality for fjord landscapes in the world. They are comparable in scale and quality to other existing fjords on the World Heritage List and are distinguished by the climate and geological setting.
The Naeroyfjord and the Geirangerfjord areas are considered to be among the most outstanding fjord areas on the planet. The Naeroyfjord is perhaps the most spectacular arm of the Sognefjord, and the narrowest fjord in the world, at on point only 250 metres across with mountains towering more than 1700 metres above its tranquil waters. The fjord area has been inhabited for about 10 000 years. The area has been farmed for almost 3000 years, and farming is still important for people living along the fjord.
The west Norwegian fjords are situated one on each side of the Jostedalsbreen Glacier and comprise of the municipalities of Aurland, Lærdal, Vik and Voss on the south side and the municipalities of Norddal and Stranda on the north side.
23rd Dignity Conference 29.0: Presentation of a Ngak' Nyau (Karen) Village (long version)
The 23rd Annual Conference of the Human Dignity and Humiliation Studies network, titled 'Returning Dignity', took place at Chiang Mai University in Northern Thailand from 8th - 12th March 2014. In our view, the knowledge that we learned here, is among the most valuable resource that Thailand has to offer to the world. As the world faces a multitude of crises, the knowledge of the indigenous people is crucial for the survival of humankind. After our visit, we drafted the 'Proclamation on Rural Resilience' (see humiliationstudies.org/documents/ProclamationonRuralResilience.pdf) and sent it off to the United Nations with the aim to help secure the rights of indigenous peoples in the post-2015 development goals. We understood from our visit that these rights are of central significance for all of humankind's survival, much more than simply of marginal importance for a few minorities.
In this presentation, given on the 13th March 2014, Joni Odochaw's son Zwae Siwakom Odochao and his cousin Otzie (or Oshi, Chindanai Jowaloo, or also Chai) introduce their village. Abstract: This paper describes the Norwegian Living School national project and its related university extension course, The Farm as a Pedagogical Resource. Since the national initiative began in the late 1990s, more than 250 separate local projects have been developed through the course. Here we focus on one such project in the community of Aurland. It illustrates the basic principal of rooting students in life processes and in the places in which they live through participation in practical, meaningful work outdoors.

Kjosfossen is a waterfall located in Aurland municipality in Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway. The waterfall is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Norway. Its total fall is around 225 metres (738 ft). There is a small power station on the waterfall which is used to power the Flåm Line railway.[1]
The Flåm Line passes directly in front of and over the lower part of the waterfall, which is one of the main attractions for tourists who take the Flåm Line.
The waterfall is located about 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi) northeast of Myrdal Station. During the main tourist season in the summer an actress dressed as a legendary Huldra (a seductive forest creature in Scandinavian folklore) dances and sings in front of the waterfall as the trains enter the station for the amusement of the tourists. The Huldra actresses are all students from the Norwegian ballet school.
