New Outlet Mall's Final Development Plan Approved
BERKSHIRE TWP. (Tom Bosco) -- A proposed outlet mall for Delaware County still exists only on paper, but it's closer than ever to being a reality after Berkshire Township approved a zoning change that clears the way for the mall.
The Tanger Outlet mall, proposed by Simon Properties, could break ground in October, with the intent of being open to customers sometime before Christmas of 2015, township officials said.
The final development plan outlines a facility with ten buildings, 61 acres of shopping, and nearly two-thousand parking spaces. It also calls for the extension of Wilson Road south from where it meets US 36 and State Route 37.
A second developer had insisted it was pursuing an outlet mall as well, but now a spokesman for the group pushing the Northgate project said it will concede the outlet mall to the Simon/Tanger group. One outlet mall at this point, said Phil Craig, speaking for Northgate developer Pat Shively.
But Craig said the group will continue with plans for development in the area, intending to build stores, seven hotels, and soccer fields.
Developers have said the area needs another interchange for I-71, to relieve traffic woes at exit 131 at US 36 and State Route 37. The Ohio Department of Transportation has said it won't pay for a new interchange, so which ever developer comes up with the money for the interchange first will get to decide whether the new exit will be north or south of the existing exit.
ODOT said no one has brought forth a plan at this point. Craig said Northgate has a plan in place for funding and will reveal it soon.

We then moved up to Cleveland, Ohio, and about 10 years ago settled our families here in Northeast Ohio.
We knew we wanted to bring our authentic Mexican cuisine here – we based our recipes on family ones from our hometown. This mall is kinda struggling a bit but today was only busy because it’s after the holidays, after this it will start to have not many shoppers. Stores keep moving out due to the high rent and the mall either opens up an entertainment place or pop up stores to fix a problem. This mall opened in 1974 and got renovated in 2008. In Late 2017, the mall started to go downhill a bit and got worse when Bon-Ton closed in April, 2018.
