Tanuki Koji Shopping Arcade Sapporo Hokkaido Prefecture Japan

Tanukikoji shopping arcade in Sapporo, Hokkaido Perfecture of Japan is an about 1km-long arcade with approximately 200 shops that runs from east to west in downtown Sapporo. The roofed arcade starts at Nishi-1-chome and ends at Nishi-7-chome. Tanukikoji shopping arcade is sheltered can be visited and shop irregardless of the weather. The arcade was developed during the frontier period. In 1869, when the Meiji government established the Hokkaido Development Commission in Sapporo, merchandiser houses and restaurants began to station in what is known today the Tanukikoji 2 and 3-chome areas. In 1873, the neighborhood became recognised as “Tanukikoji”. The Tanukikoji shopping arcade, which many tourists visit, features both old and new shops, souvenir shops, karaoke bars and night clubs give it a bazaar like feel.

Tanuki koji shopping arcade opening hours are around 10am in the morning and runs late in the night. Donki is open 24 hours.

How to go Tanukikoji? It is 5-minute walk from Odori Station on the Subway Namboku, Tozai and Toho Lines. 3-minute walk from Susukino Station on the Subway Namboku Line.

Sapporo Beer Museum & All-You-Can-Eat Crab | Japan 2016 | Episode 4

After a successful day trip to Yoichi and Otaru yesterday, we got a chance to start exploring Sapporo.
We started familiarizing ourselves with the vast underground walkway leading South out from Sapporo Station. The underground is made up of several walkways and areas, such as Sapporo-Ekimae Dori, Pole Town and Aurora Town.
Our first soft serve experience the night we arrived had us craving a repeat and after a bit of research on Google we found Penguin-Dou a cute little shop mixing soft serve and ice cream.
We capped off our day with a visit to the Sapporo Beer Museum to learn about the birth place of beer here in Hokkaido. The beer museum was very well presented, everything was easily accessible to English speakers.
After touring the museum we made a quick pit stop in the tasting room where you can buy tickets from a vending machine to exchange for beer.
There are also several restaurants attached to the museum and we had reservations for the all you can eat crab feast. It was ridiculously amazing!

SAPPORO SHOPPING | Japan Vlog Day 2

Day 2 in Sapporo started on a rainy morning... We took the train to Aurora Town, Sapporo's underground shopping mall, and then we continued exploring the street of this amazing city. We found (and climbed up) a pencil building, we went shopping on Tanukikoji Street, a 1-km long shopping arcade, and then we checked out the cute cats and dogs at a pet store. We returned home exhausted late in the evening...
