Fáskrúðsfjörður is often called the French town in Iceland.
Fáskrúðsfjörður is in the center of the east fjords, in between peninsulas Vattarnes and Hafnarnes. At the bottom of the fjord, there is a grassy valley with lovely arctic woodlands. The route from Reyðarfjörður along the coast is very scenic and should not be missed. It offers excellent views of the hollow cliff island of Skrúður. The island is home to a colorful birdlife, with the unique wonder the 'Puffin Cave' sheltering thousands of puffins and a great colony of Gannets that can be seen plunging like arrows into the water. The town at the bottom of the fjord goes by the name of Búðir, but everyone calls it Fáskrúðsfjörður.
The town became a trading post in 1880. From the latter part of the 19th century until 1935, the town was the main hub for French fishermen off East of Iceland. The town is famous for its French heritage and has a strong connection to its French counterpart, Gravelines. It is worthwhile to visit the French Museum and learn more about these historical connections. There used to be a French consul, a French hospital and a French chapel. It is also believed that France had a say in the fact that the district doctor was positioned in Búðir. The village road signs are also in French. Don't forget to visit the local Café which is known for great cakes and refreshments that can be enjoyed in cozy surroundings. An eligible place to stay is the farm Tunguholt.
Just outside the town is a graveyard, the burial place of 49 known French sailors. The former French hospital, erected in 1903 and notorious for being haunted, is currently being restored to its former glory.

Iceland - Faskrudsfjordur to Egilsstadir - Winter/Snow
The drive from Faskrudsfjordur to Egilsstadir. At first we tried going up the 953 and around the coast but discretion is the better part of valour. Staff at the hotel had said it was drivable but with my limited experience of the road and the conditions I decide it was best not to and so turned around.
The conditions to Egilsstadir were good although they got worse on the way back but at no point did I feel our little Duster couldn't cope with it as long as I drove sensibly

Seasons in Iceland: Winter | Northern Lights & Polar Night
Winter is less popular travel season in Iceland. However, only during Winter, you could see the Northern Lights and experience Polar night, when the sun rises only for a few hours a day.
Not only does the island transform into a magnificent winter wonderland when cloaked in its costume of frost and snow, but there is also less traffic on the highways, the crowds at popular attractions are much smaller, and of course the northern lights in Iceland only appear in the black skies of the winter months.

Iceland Tour Day 4: South Coast and Eastfjords
On this day we traveled from our hotel near Hofn along the south coast (where we saw tons of Reindeer!) and drove along the Eastfjords. We stopped in Djúpivogur for some souvenir shopping and ate lunch in Breiðdalsvík before arriving at our hotel in Egilsstaðir. There is a dairy farm on the property and I had a magnificent meal of local cheese and beef. We lucked out and saw the Aurora later that night.

On 6th of August 2016 I began Daily Timelapse project, dedicated to the idea of showing endless movements occurring in time and space, unrecognized by the naked eye. Using a time-lapse technique, I film single frame for a certain period of time and later projects it in a short movie manner, hereby telling a story of the gradual and eternal change.

Iceland - Driving East Fjords (Faskrudsfjordur to Hofn) Winter/Snow
This was a drive from Faskrudsfjordur to Hofn on Thursday 7 March 2019.The Drive is about 210 km and took about 3.5 hours, including stopping off to enjoy views. The video was taken with a cheap ActionCam bought off eBay taking an image every 0.5 seconds. The date/time stamp is wrong as I was still figuring out how to use it!
The part where it slows down at around 4:34 is when we had to stop for Reindeer crossing the road. At one point you will also notice a couple of hikers on the road, we don't know where they had started off or where they were going
I wanted to share this video as I had read plenty about driving in the East fjords in winter and thought other people would appreciate my experience.
I had driven in Iceland once before, on the South Coast as far as Jokulsarlon in Nov 2017 so had some familiarity with Icelandic roads. There hadn't been snow and this was my first experience of snow driving anywhere. We had a 2019 model Dacia Duster 4x4 with winter tyres from (who we found very good). The car served us well, other than the Sat Nav map being out of date and trying to send us the long way around on our trip - there is a short stretch of road that is unpaved and I think this caused the Sat Nav issues.
Generally I didn't find the driving too difficult. Conditions were mostly good and whenever there was snow blowing across the road it was being picked up by the wind and as the wind wasn't too strong it wasn't an issue. I am a cautious driver and found that with the 4 wheel drive and some sensible driving nothing untoward happened. I tried to use engine/clutch braking where possible.
It was certainly an experience that I would recommend to anyone. There were times when you are approaching blind corners on the outside of a bend with only a barrier between you and the sea that it felt a bit scary but ome of the views of the fjords and mountains made it worth while. There is some weather towards the end where it started closing in and getting harder to see the road ahead.
I will post some other videos of our trip where conditions were more difficult - we went to go around the tip of Faskrudsfjordur and past Vattarnes in to Reydarfjordur but turned back as it was getting a bit uncomfortable for us. The car didn't feel like it was struggling but the snow was a bit deeper and we didn't know what was around the corners.
Also the weather around Jokulsarlon was worse and at one point we couldn't see more than about 2 poles in front of us. Again, driving sensibly meant that although it was a bit intense it was manageable and an experience worth having
