Australian firefighters were jumping for joy as torrential rain helped to extinguish bushfires ravaging the mid-north coast of New South Wales, as seen in footage posted by the Leongatha Fire Brigade on Monday in Rolland Plains near Port Macquarie.
The volunteer crew can be seen dancing in the rain with locals. The firefighters from Leongatha, near Melbourne, travelled all the way to NSW to help battle the blaze. They were welcomed by thankful locals who helped by cooking meals for the crew and displaced residents.
Among the worst in Australian history, the bushfires have burned over 1,600,000 hectares (4,000,000 acres) since September, destroying 663 homes so far, spreading dangerously close to the suburbs of Sydney.

Kilcunda to Wonthaggi rail trail ride
This is the ride is along the rail trail that runs through Kilcunda to Wonthaggi in Victoria's beautiful Gippsland coast. The first section is a short loop around the George Bass coastal walk. I then get onto the main rail trail, which stretches past the giant wind turbines and desalination plant to the industrial town of Wonthaggi. I rate the ride as easy, its flat most of the way with only a few gentle inclines and very straight. If you do this ride keep you eyes open for the Kangaroos which often inhabit the scrubby paddocks about 1km out of Kilcunda on the ocean side of the trail.

Rescom Wonthaggi
Wonthaggi is located in South Gippsland, several kilometres inland from the coast, between Inverloch and the gateway town to Phillip Island, San Remo.
Between 1910 and 1968, black coal was mined from Wonthaggi's network of underground mines, creating a thriving industrial settlement for miners and their families during those years. Since the mine closure, Wonthaggi has developed into a large commercial centre, with parts of the old mine now reopened for guided tours. Places of interest in the town include the former railway station which houses the Wonthaggi Historical Society and displayed outside the Wonthaggi Hotel are the giant jaw bones of a 23 metre whale that washed up on a near by beach back in 1923.
Located just 7 kilometres south of the Wonthaggi town centre is the seaside community of Cape Paterson. It offers a scenic and tranquil coastal retreat for visitors and marks the start of the 12 km scenic coastal drive to Inverloch passing through Bunurong Marine Park and offering spectacular views.
