Toowoomba (nicknamed 'The Garden City') is a city in the Darling Downs region in the Australian state of Queensland. It is located 125 km (78 mi) west of Queensland's capital city Brisbane by road.[4] The estimated urban population of Toowoomba as of June 2015 was 114,622.[1] A university and cathedral city, it hosts the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers each September and national championship events for the sports of mountain biking and motocross. There are more than 150 public parks and gardens in Toowoomba.[5] It has developed into a regional centre for business and government services. It is also referred to as the capital of the Darling Downs.[5]
It is the 16th-largest city in Australia and the sixth-largest in Queensland after Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Townsville and Cairns. Toowoomba is the most populous inland city in the country after the national capital of Canberra.[6]
Last year, emergency measures have been taken as a heat wave was 330 million people affected by the drought. Schools and hospitals were closed and then had to move hundreds of families from villages to towns where there was water available.
The aftermath of cyclone Debbie cause major problems in eastern Australia. Although the hurricane has now weakened to a storm, floods caused by the heavy rain in many places. Rescuers can reach difficult areas in the states of Queensland and New South Wales.
Near Mackay city came two days 1,000 millimeters rain down, while it usually falls in a year in 1500 to 2500 millimeters, say Australian meteorologists. In the Netherlands, an annual average of 800 mm.
The bad weather are households without electricity and roads are inaccessible. In the flood areas in Queensland are certainly all schools closed until the weekend, because the floods pose a threat to teachers, pupils and their parents for example.
Rainfall is also for the rescuers now the main problem, says correspondent Robert Portier. Some flooding areas are inaccessible, making it impossible to wipe or recover the power and telephone lines clean streets. Partly because we also have a good idea of the damage wrought by the hurricane. Even though we have seen enough pictures of ships smacked on shore and roofs blown off.

The Murray River (or River Murray[n 1]) is Australia's longest river, at 2,508 kilometres (1,558 mi) in length.[1] The Murray rises in the Australian Alps, draining the western side of Australia's highest mountains, and then meanders across Australia's inland plains, forming the border between the states of New South Wales and Victoria as it flows to the northwest into South Australia. It turns south at Morgan for its final 315 kilometres (196 mi), reaching the ocean at Lake Alexandrina.
The water of the Murray flows through several terminal lakes that fluctuate in salinity (and were often fresh until recent decades) including Lake Alexandrina and The Coorong before emptying through the Murray Mouth into the southeastern portion of the Indian Ocean, often referenced on Australian maps as the Southern Ocean, near Goolwa.[2] Despite discharging considerable volumes of water at times, particularly before the advent of largescale river regulation, the mouth has always been comparatively small and shallow.More info:
The Adventures of Ronnie and Dr. Sheba in Australia
Follow our journey as we try to visit 100 countries around the world at:
Australia is a country and continent surrounded by the Indian and Pacific oceans. Its major cities – Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide – are coastal. Its capital, Canberra, is inland. The country is known for its Sydney Opera House, the Great Barrier Reef, a vast interior desert wilderness called the Outback, and unique animal species like kangaroos and duck-billed platypuses. Sydney, capital of New South Wales and one of Australia’s largest cities, is best known for its harbor front Sydney Opera House, with a distinctive sail-like design. Massive Darling Harbor and the smaller Circular Quay port are hubs of waterside life, with the arched Harbor Bridge and esteemed Royal Botanic Garden nearby. Sydney Tower’s outdoor platform, the Sky-walk, offers 360-degree views of the city and suburbs.
We visited Sydney Australia twice, first in September 2014 to celebrate Ronnie’s birthday and again in December/January 2017 to bring in the New Year; partying at the Opera House and watching the amazing fireworks over Harbor bridge. Both times, we stayed at the Hilton in Sydney. We enjoyed the show, The King and I, at the Sydney Opera House and visited Taronga Zoo and Featherdale Wildlife Park to see kangaroos, koala bears and other wildlife. We also walked along the Sydney Tower (SkyWalk), visited SeaLife Aquarium, Katoomba Falls, The Blue Mountains, Luna Park, iFly indoor skydiving.

Sydney Opera House Australia - youtube.com/tanvideo11
Powered by - The Sydney Opera House is a multi-venue performing arts centre in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It was conceived and largely built by Danish architect Jørn Utzon, opening in 1973 after a long gestation that had begun with his competition-winning design in 1957. Joseph Cahill's New South Wales Government gave the go-ahead for work to begin in 1958. The government's bold decision to select Utzon's design is often overshadowed by the scandal that followed. The Sydney Opera House is on Bennelong Point in Sydney Harbour, close to the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It sits at the northeastern tip of the Sydney central business district (the CBD), surrounded on three sides by the harbour (Sydney Cove and Farm Cove) and inland by the Royal Botanic Gardens.
Contrary to its name, the building houses multiple performance venues. The Sydney Opera House is among the busiest performing arts centres in the world, hosting over 1,500 performances each year attended by some 1.2 million people. It provides a venue for many performing-arts companies, including the four key resident companies Opera Australia, The Australian Ballet, the Sydney Theatre Company and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and presents a wide range of productions on its own account. It is also one of the most popular visitor attractions in Australia, with more than seven million people visiting the site each year, 300,000 of whom take a guided tour.
The Sydney Opera House is administered by the Sydney Opera House Trust, under the New South Wales Ministry of the Arts. On 28 June 2007, the Sydney Opera House was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is one of the 20th century's most distinctive buildings and one of the most famous performing arts centres in the world
