All Stops to Canberra - A Centenary Look at the Canberra Railway Museum
From Austography Film Image comes a retrospective look behind the scenes at the former Canberra Railway Line.
Told by those who dedicated their lives to the preservation of the century old rolling stock, the film explores what it took to operate a railway museum in Australia's capital, Canberra, and the impressive rolling stock therein.
This included 1210, Australia's oldest operating steam engine; 3016, a former suburban tank engine converted to tender for increased mileage and 6029 - the largest operating engine in the Southern Hemisphere.
Sadly, the museum has since closed due to liquidation. However, it may reopen in the near future.

National War Museum - Mosaic Beautifies Hall of Memory. Australian Colour Diary 3
Every Anzac Day many gather at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra for services. Thousand of people visit the monument every year and part of what they see are the large mosaics depicting the military services of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Women's Services. Designed by artist Napier Waller the mosaics are the main feature in the Hall Of Memory. Four forty foot panels, one on each wall, are covered in tiny mosaic tiles with seventy different colours used and a total of six million pieces used overall. Each panel took about six months to complete a labour befitting the solemnity and importance of this memorial. Waller was himself a veteran who served in WWI in France where he was injured and lost his right arm. He later taught himself to write and draw with his left hand. Australian Railway Museums Tour
Filmed November 2016 a number of Railway Museums was part of an Australian Tour itinerary. Six museums in total featuring a variety of gauges from two foot upwards. We start with two operated by the Australian Railway Historical Society. North Williamstown, near Melbourne and the one now temporarily closed at Canberra. The Works, at Ipswich, and Nambour Heritage Museum which are both in Queensland. Goulburn Roundhouse and Train Works at Thirlmere, near Sydney, are two from the state of New South Wales.
In all the museums there are examples of U.K. built steam plus plenty Australian built and a few supplied by American companies.

The Museum is wonderfully crafted and full of outstanding displays of Australia’s true history with all its faults right up to the present day where they try to put right grievous colonial errors and attitudes.
Canberra Railway Museum: A cenetenary of rail into Canberra
On a lovely warm Sunday, the railway museum was abuzz with crowds coming out to celebrate 100 years since locomotive 1210 hauled the first train into Canberra, back in 1914. Although sadly not in operational condition, she was posed with a rake of period wagons, while 6029 and 3016 provided the steam and sound. With the Railmotor running shuttle trips, as well as a fairground organ and miniature train rides, it was a jam-packed event and a hit with the crowds.
Curiously, a balloon shaped like a shark floated over the museum sometime in the afternoon. No idea where it came from (looks too small to be a hot air balloon)!

It includes images of the opening of the first Australian Federal Parliament by the Duke and Duchess of York. From sheep paddock to Federal Capital the film claims that not only is Canberra the most beautiful modern city in the world with gardens that would outshine those of the ancient Roman villas but it is also Australia's centre of learning and culture.
Conversion To Canberras
Made by The Commonwealth Film Unit 1960. Directed by Jack Rogers. Amberley, in South Queensland, is the base for the RAAF's Canberra jet-bombers. It takes piston-engine trained crews three months to learn about the aircraft and its safety devices. This film shows men undertaking the course and concludes with a crew making its first bombing run.

1. The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) is situated within New South Wales and is the only completely land-locked Australian state or territory. ACT’s capital city is Canberra, which is also Australia’s national capital. Joshua John Moore established a station at Acton in 1823, making him the first European settler in the Canberra area. Moore named his property ‘Canberry’ after the Aboriginal word ‘Kamberra’ (meeting place). Is Australia's smallest self-governed territory, comprising 2,359km2 of bushland and one major city – Canberra.
2. In 1901, Australia federated to form the Commonwealth of Australia, and subsequently the Commonwealth Parliament was formed. This meant that Australia would need a capital city where Parliament could meet. A number of locations were suggested as capital city locations, and in 1908 Yass-Canberra was chosen. On 1 January 1911, the Australian Capital Territory was founded.
3. Canberra is one of the most beautiful, cleanest, secure and hospitable capital cities in the world. Among its attractions include; Australian War Memorial, Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House, Parliament House, National Gallery of Australia, National Film and Sound Archive, National Capital Exhibition, and The Royal Australian Mint.
4. Lake Burley Griffin was nearly a disaster – the initial filling was attempted during a drought, which attracted swarms of mosquitoes.
5. The Australian Capital Territory stretches 88km from north to south and only 30km from west to east. It isn’t called the “bush capital’ for nothing. The landscape around Canberra is made up of rugged plains, hills and mountains, as well as plenty of trees. Roughly 45% of ACT is made up of the Namadgi National Park and provides Canberra with its drinking water. Many important Ngunnawal campsites and spectacular rock art sites, such as the Birrigai Rock Shelter and Yankee Hat Shelter, can be found within the national park’s boundaries. The park is also home to hundreds of species of Australian wildlife such as birds, bats, kangaroos, wallabies, fish and frogs.
6. The dominant feature, Parliament House, is a massive edifice sculptured into Capital Hill, where 2,500 people are accommodated in one of the most spacious legislative buildings yet erected. Capital Hill, in the southern part of the city, is the focal point from which all principal avenues radiate.
7. Home to almost 400,000 people, it is Australia’s largest inland city with modern infrastructure and award-winning urban developments, which is a delightful contrast to the untouched natural environment that surrounds it. There is a long list of exhilarating activities that both locals and visitors enjoy.

Train Enthusiast's Video Diary 2013-04-16 2D
On Tuesday 16/04/2013, we joined fellow tourists and enthusiasts on a steam train excursion from Canberra Railway Station to Bungendore Railway Station and return (with a stop at Queanbeyan Railway Station made in both directions).
The excursion was provided by the Australian Railway Historical Society (ACT Division), the operators of the Canberra Railway Museum.
On this occasion the train was hauled by ex-NSW Railways steam locomotive 1210 (built 1878) and assisted by diesel-electric locomotive 4807.
This short video includes snippets of the departing CountryLink passenger train led by rail car 2527 from Canberra Railway Station bound for Sydney and followed by the excursion train travelling from Canberra Railway Station to Bungendore.
