Australian National Memorial, Villers Bretonneux, France
One of the features of World War One was the large number of Commonwealth soldiers from around the world who fought with the British & French on the Western Front (and in no way forgetting Gallipoli, where the nations of Australia and New Zealand were born).
The Australian National War Memorial near VillersBretonneux, France, honours over 10,000 Australian soldiers who fought and died in France but have no known grave.
VillersBretonneux was chosen for this amazing monument because Australian troops re-captured the town in the final successful advance on the invading German army. The success of the Australians in this area was key to the final outcome of the war. Their sacrifice should never been forgotten.

A Visit to the Sir John Monash Centre Villers-Bretonneux France
In April 2018 a Reflective Centre was opened at the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux in France. It tells the story of the substantial contribution of Australia to the defeat of Germany and the Central Powers in 1918. It is named after Australia's best field commander during that war, John Monash.
Villers-Bretonneux the Australian National Memorial in the Somme department, France
Between the towns of Fouilloy and Villers-Bretonneux the Australian National Memorial, 'Villers-Bretonneux' dominates the fields and it's the main memorial to Australian military personnel killed on the Western Front during WWI. I visited this cemetery to pay respects to my husband's great uncle.
It's located in the Somme department of France and is an important place for Australian visitors to honour the fallen and pay their respects.

Villers Bretonneux - Do Not Forget Australia
We left the apartment at 9.00 am and got to Villers Bretonneux at 3.15 pm hahaha - home by 10.15 pm! We found our own way through Paris Gare du Nord. We could have jumped a train to London WOW!! There were too many people going though so we opted to stick to our plan and head on to Amiens and then just down the road is Villers-Bretonneux. A great day. We loved it. They do love Aussies and we were helped out by a local . . . it was a long walk to the Memorial (half way anyway) and no public toilets :-) A day to remember for many reasons . . . enjoy!
