Today we head out on a Guatemala City tour where we visit all the top attractions and we eat really authentic Guatemalan street food that you can only dream of.
Our first stop is the Guatemalan Typography Map where you can see what the country looks like with mountains, volcanoes and low lands. Next we head to Zone 1 (the historical center) and visit the central park. There we tried some fresh goat milk, saw the national palace, metropolitan cathedral and then head over the central market.
The central market is the biggest artisan market in Guatemala. We did a little shopping and then went to the lower level and ate some authentic Guatemalan street food. Here is a list of everything I tried:
-Pork Rind Taco
-Blood Sausage Taco
-Alot de Etole
-Tosta de Tomate
-Carrot Juice
-Chille Relleno Taco
Next time you head to Guatemala I recommend working with my friends at #VisitGuatemala

On the first day in Guatemala we stayed the entire day at the hotel and ate traditional and gourmet maya Guatemalan food! To start we visited the Market restaurant there we tried Kak Ik soup and we also tried a flank steak with white cheese and black bean mash.
I hit up the spa for an amazing Cacao massage which was amazing! It felt like I was being covered with Nutella and then cooked! Such a great experience which I highly recommend!
For dinner we visited their Picasso restaurant and the chef prepared for us a food and drink pairing. These dishes were more gourmet maya Guatemalan food. My favorite was the tuna with avocado with smoke! It was unreal!

Guatemala City Guatemala - Authentic Guatemalan Food
Guatemala City Guatemala - Authentic Guatemalan Food and great Food at La Cocina de La Senora Pu is what we found when we arrived back in Guatemala City.
Guatemala City Guatemala is our first stop in Guatemala - Guatemala City to Antigua Guatemala is our second stop. And then as in this video, we're back in Guatemala City for one night. Senora Pu restaurant was recommended to us by our AirBnB Host. La Cocina de la Senora Pu is known for having some of the best authentic Guatemalan Food. It was definitely the best Guatemalan food I had during our trip to Guatemala. Food in Guatemala was one of our top reasons that we loved our visit. There are restaurants in Guatemala City all over our area. Which was the Sexta area. This restaurant was just one block off of Calle Sexta. Out of every restaurant and meal that we had in Guatemala City and Guatemala in general, this is by far the best meal we had there.
Guatemala is my latest country to visit. This was a birthday celebration trip for my girlfriend. I think I picked a good one. Guatemala City was our first stop and we had an awesome AirBnB. Guatemala 2019 is a date and trip that we will never forget. We absolutely loved this country and its' history. Guatemala City 2019 is a place that we'll always recommend visiting. Visiting Guatemala was an awesome choice for her birthday. We just didn't know how good it would be.Visiting Guatemala City first was a good choice as well. Since we landed here it was a good choice to get a good AirBnB for the week as a base. Guatemala City to Antigua was our ultimate route. And of course we went from there as well to Lake Atitlan and Pacaya volcano as well. Visiting Antigua was good for us especially coming and going to and from Medellin Colombia. Guatemala travel is something we both recommend now.
There are plenty of things to do in Guatemala City. We chose to stay near our airbnb since we were only a block away from Sexta Avenida or should I say Avenida Sexta. Visiting Antigua Guatemala was and is a good second stop. I'd actually recommend first experiencing Guatemala City nightlife before heading to Antigua Guatemala. Travel Guatemala should be on a t-shirt somewhere just like Guat's Up? I actually have that shirt. Guatemala City Travel is our tip recommend travel if you're looking to stay near the US but be outside of the US. Central and South America are great choices. It's the same time zone as well. Travel Guatemala city was my first choice and Honduras was my second. We've even checked out living in Guatemala and joined a Facebook group for expats in Guatemala. Food in Guatemala was awesome. Some not my first choice, but overall, this was our best food trip yet. Guatemalan food is something to check out when possible. And sexta avenida Guatemala is a walking street that you have to check out. There are no cars allowed but does have a free bus that runs periodically. Restaurants in Guatemala City were, again, awesome. We'd definitely tell you to check out La Cocina de la Senora Pu.

If you thought Guatemala was all Maya Guatemalan street food your wrong! There is a whole gourmet side to it and in this video I take you to two of the best restaurants in the country, Flor de Lis and
Flor de Lis is a restaurant by Chef Diego Telles that focus on food that is inspired by the Mayan bible called The Popol Vuh. Here we tried so many amazing dishes that were extremely earth focused. We tried a tamale that had volcanic ash, a taco that had frog legs and ants and so many more incredible dishes!
Ambia by Chef Sergio Diaz is a Guatemalan Fusion restaurant that has a forest open air theme. Each dish is a twist between Guatemala and neighboring nations and Europe. They also make some killer Maya cocktails that you can only find here! I tried a Peruvian inspired ceviche with two sea bass, each from a different ocean. I also tried a filet mignon with foie gras and so many more delicious dishes!
Next time you find yourself in Guatemala head out to both these insanely delicious restaurants and get blown away!

Visiting Guatemala 2019 - Guatemala City, Antigua, Pacaya Volcano & Lake Atitlan
Visiting Guatemala 2019 - Guatemala City, Antigua, Pacaya Volcano & Lake Atitlan is what this video will highlight. My girlfriend and I both voted this trip and country as, Best Trip Ever. More videos to come, but this will give you an idea of our entire trip. And what a trip it was. This is the beginning of my Guatemala Travel Guide. Lake Atitlan is the #1 visit during out stay. Pacaya Volcano is #2. This was my first trip to Guatemala. And wow, what a trip. I will definately be back. Antigua,Antigua is my new favorite place. My favorite trip ever. We started in Guatemala City and then on to Antigua Guatemala. This was my first travel to Guatemala City and Antigua. If you're planing to visit guatemala city, please check out my videos. I'll have a few more after this one. Guatemala is now my favorite country. There are plenty of things to do in Guatemala and lots of things to do in Antigua. The things to do in Antigua Guatemala are both in town and outside of town. Such as climbing a volcano. Guatemala Antigua has an incredible culture. Or should I say many different cultures, as there are numerous other groups of native peoples. If you travel to Antigua you must visit Lake Atitlan, which is about a two hour van ride from Antigua. It's a true gem and a must do if in Antigua or Guatemala City for a few days.
Travel to Antigua Guatemala is also easy to get to. At least for us coming from Houston, we only have one flight. There are numerous Volcanoes in Guatemala and from Antigua you can see three of them prominently towering over the city. There's Volcano Agua, Volcano Fuego and I forgot the other one but it's right next to Fuego Volcano. Fuego Volcano is an active volcano and you should see it blow smoke from time to time.Volcanoes in Antigua are available to climb. Well at least Pacaya Volcano is and Fuego Volcano actually erupted about a year ago. It's extremely active. But believe it or not, I would still live in Antigua. I tell you, you must take a,trip to Guatemala. It's absolutely beautiful. A trip to Antigua Guatemala is a must if heading to central or South America. Guatemala City is the standard landing spot and is only about an hour Uber ride to Antigua. Our Uber cost about $22 US. Another must visit is Lake Atitlan. It's pristine, peaceful and like another world. It has lots of great AirBnB's as well. Lake Atitlan Guatemala as well as the Volcano hikes should be on anyone's to-do list.

Guatemalan STREET FOOD from the GODS in Lake Atitlan | Santiago Atitlan, Guatemala
On my second day in Guatemala in partnership with the Real Intercontinental Guatemala we explored Santiago Atitlan the most important town on Lake Atitlan. Here we tried some of the best street food in Guatemala!
Subscribe to Mariel de Viaje ►
My Film Making Kit ►
When we arrived in Santiago Atitlan we headed straight for Maya Patin a local street food on Lake Atitlan which is a small salted fish mixed with tomato paste in a banana leaf. It was salty and spicy, super delicious!
Next we continued up the town and we stop and had a spicy Guatemalan snow cone. It was a little spicy but the lime made it extra delicious!
We then visit Maximon, the Maya god or grandfather of Santiago Atitlan. The maya people of Santiago Atitlan believe that he protects the town. You can see him smoking cigarets and drinking! Pretty amazing experience!
To end our day in Santiago Atitlan we visited a local fish restaurant and ate some Black Bass. I had it with a white wine sauce and I also put some spicy sauce they had which was super spicy. Mariel challenged me and I won!
From there we crossed the lake back to Panajachel and drove 3 hours back to Guatemala City to the Real Intercontinental Guatemala. We had dinner at their Japanese restaurant Tanoshii. We went all out with three rolls of sushi, sashimi and sake!
Next time you head to Guatemala I recommend working with my friends at A La Carta Tours:

Guatemalan Currency - Guatemalan Quetzal 2019
Guatemalan Currency - Guatemalan Quetzal 2019 - Welcome to Central America and Guatemala. The Guatemalan Quetzal is the name of the Guatemalan Currency. Guatemala currently has an exchange rate to the US dollar of 13 cents. Guatemala City has numerous banks and ATM's. The one that we chose to use was 5B Bank or 5B ATM machines. Which were everywhere. Money in Guatemala comes in bills and coins. Guatemala Quetzales I believe is the plural of the Quetzal. Guatemala exchange rate is at 13 cents to the US dollar as of December 2019. The US dollar versus Guatemalan Quetzal is currently pretty strong. Quetzales, again, I believe is when you're talking about more than one Quetzal. If you want to know is Guatemala City safe, I think it's all relative. As long as you don't walk around showing that you have a lot, you don't really have worries.
Guatemalan Quetzales mostly are in pretty good condition and the coins take some use to getting used to, as they're pretty large compared to US coins. When i first got back to the US, I thought the quarters were fake since they were so small. Hopefully this video on Guatemala Currency will help others when visiting. The Guatemala Quetzal is easy to use and calculate against the US dollar. If you want to know is Antigua Guatemala safe; it is extremely safe. This is the one city in the world that I felt comfortable giving money to those in need on the streets directly from my pockets. That's a good feeling. You cannot do that in the US without fear of getting robbed. Guatemalan Banks are everywhere, but don't think they all will convert money for you. You have to go to a special bank; but people are nice enough to direct you to the nearest one.
If you want to know in general, Is Guatemala Safe, well, that's relative. While I didn't go everywhere, I can't really gage it. But Guatemala City is like any other large city. Central America is the same in most large cities. Panajachel was extremely safe with lots of friendly people. More of an island feel, I'd say. Lake Atitlan would be the same. Guatemalan Money is something you'll have to think of as soon as you land. Just keep in mind that you don't need cash or any Guatemalan dinero to take an Uber. I'd advise that in any country where it's available. Guatemalan efectivo is another name for cash. The same goes for dinero. My last thought is to remember to have Uber set up already and then when you get to where you'e staying, then look for a Guatemalan ATM.

I started by having a delicious breakfast at the Real Intercontinental Guatemala and some fantastic coffee. From their we drove one hour south to Antigua. We partnered up with A La Carta Tours and Antigua Rides to give us this unreal food tour of Antigua.
We started by heading to the neighborhood of San Juan del Obispo. Their we saw a 15th century church and had some Chuchitos (Guatemalan version of Tamales). They were spicy and delicious!
Next up we entered Chocolateria Antigua to see how they turn Cacao into chocolate bars. We then tried 13 different chocolates. They were all so good! I had to buy myself some.
From their we walked down the street to El Abuelo del Vino which is a fruit fermenting factory. They ferment over 40 different fruits and turn them into fruit wine. We saw the process and tried a dozen very strong wines!
After that we drove across town to Cerro de la Cruz to get an incredible view over the UNESCO World Heritage Town of Antigua. To end the tour we hit up La Cuevita de los Urquizu to have a truly unique Guatemalan meal. When you visit Antigua you have to eat here!

Antigua Guatemala 2020 - Guatemala City to Antigua Guatemala, Chichicastenango & Lake Atitlan.
This is our revisit to Antigua Guatemala 2020. We're starting the year off right in Antigua. We fly into La Aurora international airport in Guatemala City, Guatemala. We then take an Uber from Guatemala to Antigua Guatemala for the first leg of our trip. We then head to Lake Atitlan and Chichicastenango and to the largest mercado in Central America. As well as visiting Lake Atitlan. Guatemala City to Antigua is a good start when first arriving in Guatemala and Guatemala City. We were just in Antigua Guatemala 2019 and loved it so much, we were planning how to get back ever since then.
We highly recommend Guatemala travel of course. And of course we recommend visiting Antigua Guatemala as well. Antigua Guatemala is absolutely beautiful. If you've seen my last videos from Guatemala, you'll know that this our favorite country and city in the world. While we haven't been everywhere, we've been enough places and countries to know. Guatemala 2020 is starting the year off right. And Antigua Guatemala travel is an awesome way to start the year.
This is my Antigua Guatemala travel vlog. I hope you'll enjoy my Antigua Guatemala vlog. We took an Antigua guatemala walking tour as soon as we arrived in Antigua. We visited the Casa del jade antigua guatemala and made a couple of purchases. Our hotel was Casa Encantada Antigua Guatemala. Please see the videos to see how absolutely beautiful it was. It also included breakfast from the terrace. The Antigua Guatemala walking tour was great, which we were allowed to meet the new Vice Mayor and visiting the jade museum. Antigua Guatemala nightlife is excellent; while shutting down early, it's absolutely beautiful. Lot's of bars, restaurants and live entertainment. Again, this is my Guatemala travel vlog; I hope you enjoy, like and subscribe. Remember, travel Guatemala.

Guatemala Food Cooking School in Antigua, Guatemala:
Guatemala Food Cooking School is an immersive cultural experience for the culinary adventurers out there who are visiting Antigua, Guatemala. I was fortunate enough to be a part of the Guatemala Food Cooking Class as part of my volunteer trip with Vivid Roots & Hopscotch the Globe. While in Antigua, we did a walking tour and learned how to cook authentic Guatemalan Food. Some of the Guatemalan dishes that we prepared and ate were Jocón, Rellenitos, Elote Loco (crazy corn), fresh corn tortillas, traditional Guatemalan tostadas, Guatemalan style rice & more.
This was an amazing experience to have in Guatemala with a wonderful group of people. Not only was it a great bonding time with the group of volunteers, but it was also a great learning environment. After a few drinks and some music, we danced our way through the kitchen and were ready to eat the Guatemalan food we had just prepared ourselves. This was definitely a night to remember.
