After lighting incense, the Dharma Master took his seat in the Great Jewel Hall. The cantor, Dharma Master Heng Yang, sang, “The multitude of dragons and elephants in Buddhism should contemplate the foremost truth/法門龍象眾,當觀第一義,” after which Rev. Heng Sure spoke the Dharma for the donors.
“Wisdom knows no east or west. Suffering and misery are universal. Who can show us the road to freedom from pain? The buddha, the awakened human being, found the door that opens to a realm beyond some sorrow. Holding that door open for us even today in Calgary, Venerable Master Hsuan Hua taught us how to end suffering for ourselves and how to share the path for every living being who can hear - the real Dharma that carries us from endless affliction to freedom. What is that method? Watch our thoughts, the way the gardener watches greens sprouts in the spring time. “
