Episode #157 - Aviator Brewing Co. - DevilsTramping Ground Tripel
Today we are drinking the Aviator Brewing Company's Devil's Tramping Ground Tripel! Aviator was a previous winner with this Tripel at the NC State Fair beer competition, winning a gold medal for the Devil's Tramping Ground. Aviator is located at 209 Technology Park Lane in Fuquay Varina, just south of Raleigh. Aviator started in Nov 2008 in an airplane hangar initially brewing in two used 300 gallon dairy tanks but have come a long way since then. Now they also operate the Aviator Tap House in the old Varina train depot and the Aviator SmokeHouse restaurant on Broad street. Of the Devil's Tramping Ground Tripel, Aviator says this hearty Tripel Belgian ale will grow hair in places you don't want. They describe the Tripel as golden colored ale that has a fruity spicy flavor that finishes a bit sweet and is light tasting from the addition of candy sugar. We add just the right amount of hops to balance out the sweetness.
The Aviator Brewing Company Wing Madness Challenge!
Yesterday I returned to Fuquay Varina, North Carolina to visit Aviator Brewery....the only place to stump me in my quest of completing hot food challenges. The tables turned last night when I set the new record for the fastest completion of the challenge and kept it all down. These wings are the hottest I have ever come accross with Aviator's accalimed Imperial Moco Loco Sauce derived from ghost chili peppers.
Norfolk Southern E-13 Fuquay-Varina, NC 6-16-2010
E-13 arrives back into Varina and makes the change from the VF-line's 10 mph limit to the 25 mph speeds of the former NS mainline. I don't know what is up with people walking into my shots latley, as someone from the Aviator Brewery decides to walk right up next to the train.

Craft Brewing is an art but it is bubbling with the science of chemical enzymes and biological metabolism. Brewers must tap a wide range of biology and chemistry, from the pH of water to controlling yeast, to craft beer. Watch as brewers at the Raleigh Brewing Company test their knowledge of molecules of matter (malted grain & water), energy (from a boil tank) and living systems (yeast) to create carbon dioxide, ethanol, and a tasty and germ-free substance called beer. Beer-making is a scientific practice that dates back almost 10,000 years!
