Punting on the Avon river in Christchurch is the top thing to do in the city. It is beautiful and if the weather is good, it is even better. Punting is a really romantic activity whether you are a local or a tourist in Christchurch.
Despite all that Christchurch has been through over the last decade, the city is still beautiful. Punting on the Avon epitomizes that and is a very romantic attraction in the garden city.
Here our amazing 10 day adventure through the South Island of New Zealand comes to an end. We have had the most amazing time and cannot believe what a beautiful country we live in.
Christchurch has so many things to do and see, it has had a rough time recently but people and the city have shown huge amounts of resilience to keep positive.
Our favorite things to do are; Punting on the Avon, the tram, the earthquake museum, the Margaret Mahy playground and Cathedral Square.

Punting on the Avon has been one of Christchurch's iconic attractions since 1986. Come aboard a classic punt at the historic Antigua Boatshed Landing and an Edwardian punter will guide you quietly past trailing willows, woodlands and the leafy banks of the Botanic Gardens.
Summer or winter, glide along the peaceful Avon River in Christchurch, wrapped in luxury, as a skilled boatperson propels you through a romantic wonderland. In spring and summer the sunbeams sparkle and ducklings dive; in autumn and winter the river-level view provides magical photographs.
Your punter, dressed in a striped blazer, braces, and wearing the straw hat known as a boater, stands on a platform at the end of the boat and pushes with a pole. You will sit low down, although high seats can be installed for your comfort and convenience. We supply blankets, umbrellas and even hot water bottles, so you feel snug if it gets chilly.
Watch the waters of the Avon ripple by as you sit back on your deep cushioned seat, return the waves from children and picnickers. Relax on velvet cushions and let your troubles melt away.

We did an instant punting, no bookings were made.
To be honest, I was a bit disappointed about Christchurch.
Their reconstruction after earthquake can be done much faster.
My family and I stayed there for 1 night, and there was nothing else to do.

Avon river is located inside the hagley park the biggest park here in Christchurch. This park is free for everyone .A very rewarding way to spend family time or just a walk in the park alone, and enjoy the many beautiful flowering plant, roses and old trees of Canterbury.
