Lyrics(English Translation)
I came walking on this long, narrow path
without knowing it
When I turn around,
my distant hometown is visible
The uneven path twists & turns
and doesn't even have a map
So is the road of life
Ah, like the flow of the river
the era passes by leniently
Ah, like the flow of the river
the sky is just endlessly dyed at twilight
Living and taking a journey,
an endless path
Take The person I love to my side
while searching for a dream
Even if I'm rained on & the path is muddy,
someday the sunny day will come again
Ah, like the flow of the river
I want to calmly go with the flow
Ah, like the flow of the river
The changing seasons
Ah, like the flow of the river
I want to calmly go with the flow
Ah, like the flow of the river
Forever while listening to the blue blabblings
Trivia: This song was released on Japan's Columbia Music label on January 11 1989. Misora Hibari died in June of the same year. Eight years after its release, it was voted number one in an NHK poll of the best Japanese songs of all time !
Kenkoku Matsuri - Japanese National Foundation Day Parade in Harajuku 建国記念の日
National Foundation Day or Kenkoku Kinen Hi is a public holiday in Japan on February 11th. The holiday started in the late 19th Century and is based on the mythical ascension to the throne of the first emperor in 660 BC.
The holiday used to be called Kigensetsu Empire Day but after WWII, the name was changed and typically on this day not a lot of fanfare is made. In Harajuku, though, a parade is done which ends at Meiji Shrine, the Emperor under whom the holiday was created.

Ginza Hanamichi Kabuki Parade 銀座花道 歌舞伎俳優のお練り
To mark the opening of the new Kabuki-za Theater in Ginza, Tokyo, a walking Oneri parade of famous kabuki actors was held in Ginza on a rainy day of March 27, 2013. Some 32,000 people waited for a long time in the rain listening to useless speeches, for a parade lasting only a minute. Apparently more actors joined in the parade further down the road. I was at the starting point of the parade. List of kabuki actors who were in the parade:
Geisha vs Oiran: What's the Difference? ★ ONLY in JAPAN #30 花魁と芸者の違い
If you're looking for Japanese culture, Asakusa in Tokyo is the top spot. On this day, John visits the Yoshiwara for the Oiran Dochu, a parade re-enacted annually to preserve the old traditions of the neighborhood. The event is attracting more visitors and it's time to explain exactly what you're seeing!
Geisha vs Oiran: What's the difference?
I ask Grigoris Miliaresis, a journalist living and studying Asakusa and historical Japanese culture.
The faces may be white, but the wig, hair ornaments, kimono, colors, even feet are totally different!
How much was a night with an oiran?
According to Grigoris, it cost 1 year's salary for a normal worker!
The Orian were not your usual prostitutes in the western sense.
* Oiran choose their clients
* Oiran met 3 times with a new client before anything “romantic” occurred.
* The were as talented as geisha in the arts and, because they had extravagant dress and style, Oiran were like the movie stars, the pin up girls for men.
Does this make them better than geisha?
Perhaps.
The Oiran Dochu is held on the first Saturday in April every year.
Google Map:
The main stage is a 5 to 10 minute walk north of Sensoji Temple.

Three phallus portable shrines are carried along the streets of Kawasaki, Japan. Held by Kanayama Shrine on the first Sun. of April, this now-famous festival is nicknamed the Phallus or Fertility Festival. Kanayama Jinja Shrine is a small shrine within the grounds of the Wakamiya Hachimangu Shrine near Kawasaki Daishi Station. Better late than never, right??
Sorry for the absence recently! Lot’s of things going on that I’ll share soon! In the meantime, enjoy this video of ringing in the New Year in Japan at the Oji Fox Festival!
I initially thought that the Fox Parade and Festival would be a small and local event, but I think I saw more foreign tourists than actual locals! Haha! It’s pretty popular! A must see if you’re in Japan for New Year’s Eve!
