The return of some of the water diversion on Kauai's Waimea River is the topic of the 5-4-17 Hawaii Commission on Water Resource Management. The attendance was strong at the Waimea Neighborhood Center. EarthJustice, Dept. Of Hawaiian Homelands, Kekaha Agriculture Association, speak to the community on this historic agreement approved by the State of Hawai‘i’s Commission on Water Resource Management to end wasteful plantation-era water diversions. Pōʻai Wai Ola/West Kauaʻi Watershed Alliance successfully fought to restore stream flows to the Waimea River on Kauaʻi Island.

Alakai Swamp Trail in Kauai, Hawaii
A fairly easy but LONG hike in Kokee State Park up Waimea Canyon. A total of 7 miles. For the most part, you are walking on a boardwalk. There's one small stream to pass. Trail might get slippery when raining but it was dry the day we went. Pretty orange flowers along the way with lots of lush greeneries. The lookout at the end gives you a beautiful view of the North Shore. Be sure to wear proper shoes, bring lots of water and snacks. Allow 4-6 hrs for the hike. Enjoy!

*We were informed by a viewer, Dionys Murphy, that the name locals give to Kalepa Ridge Trail is Pig Trail through the Gate.
***An eagle eyed viewer informed us that we have misspelled the name of Maui at 21:20. We incorrectly wrote Mauai instead of Maui. Apologies for the spelling error. ***
