The Holy Trinity Cathedral, Arat Kilo, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
The Holy Trinity Cathedral, Arat Kilo, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. In the busy part of town the Trinity is a little haven of peace. Set in peaceful compound in the Arat Kilo area the Cathedral is smaller than many of its European counterparts, but do not let this put you off in any way.
a really beautiful building both inside and out with many great features,
The plus side is the museum that houses lots and lots super historical pieces.
Well worth a vista. Entrance fee is 50 Birr ($2.77 - 2.14 Euro). Video camera fee is also 50 Birr - Note you cannot use a camera inside the museum
Opening hours - 7 days 8am - 1pm and 2pm - 6pm. The Holy Trinity Cathedral was established on December 22, 1931, under the auspices of His Imperial Majesty Haileselassie I. But during the war of resistance against fascism, the construction was disrupted for five years (1935 - 1940). Through the help of the Almighty, the construction had continued after liberation and was completed in1943. And the Cathedral was officially inaugurated on January 14, 1943. The building of the Cathedral occupies an area of 1200 square meters and it is 16 meters high. The graceful architectural structure of the Cathedral and its fabulous fine arts incredibly hard to believe that it is made by man. The Cathedral is dedicated to the memory of those patriots who took part during the war of liberation. It remains the burial place of patriots. The crypts and the graves of the Impress Menen Emperor Hailesilasie, princes and princesses are also found in this Cathedral. With in the compound of the Cathedral, the graves of his Holyness Abuna Teklehaimanot, Bishops and the monument of those Military and Civilian Officials of His Imperial Majesty who were brutally murdered by the Dergue are found. Under the order of the Majesty, further study was made by specialists to expand the dimension of the Cathedral to serve for more , church laymen. The present structure took shape for the third time, it was in 1964. The name of the Holy Trinity Cathedral was. bestowed by Likesiltanat Abba Meliektu who later became the patriaric of Ethiopia, Aba Theophilos in 1945. It is the largest city in Ethiopia, with a population of 3,384,569 according to the 2007 population census with annual growth rate of 3.8%. This number has been increased from the originally published 2,738,248 figure and appears to be still largely underestimated.[2][5]
As a chartered city (ras gez astedader), Addis Ababa has the status of both a city and a state. It is where the African Union and its predecessor the OAU are based. It also hosts the headquarters of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and numerous other continental and international organizations. Addis Ababa is therefore often referred to as the political capital of Africa due to its historical, diplomatic and political significance for the continent.[6]
The city is populated by people from different regions of Ethiopia – the country has as many as 80 nationalities speaking 80 languages and belonging to a wide variety of religious communities. It is home to Addis Ababa University. The Federation of African Societies of Chemistry (FASC) and Horn of Africa Press Institute (HAPI) are also headquartered in Addis Ababa. (Wikipedia)

Coady Institute's microfinance participants in Addis Ababa visited a local restaurant owned by 12 women, who pooled their savings to open their business. The women are members of the Kesht savings and credit group near Johannes Church in Kibebe, urban Addis-Ababa. They serve home cooked and affordable meals and freshly brewed coffee to local construction workers. Coady's participants spent a day visiting different groups of women in the city who are managing their own financial services and running their own businesses, by investing the capital raised through their own savings. The Ultimate ETHIOPIAN FOOD TOUR In Tel Aviv - AFRICAN FOOD From Ethiopia In Israel
???? Vegan Food Tour -
???? Merch -
???? Tiktok -
I have picked 4 restaurants that I can truly recommend to friends and family in terms of good food, cleanness, fast and friendly service, and atmosphere (music, decor).
Enjoy!
Balinjera (באלינג׳רה) - this restaurant serves authentic Ethiopian food alongside modern dishes.
It has simple beautiful décor, and enchanting magical music that makes you feel like you have just been teleported to Ethiopia.
I have came here with Rotem - a good friend that I met in Marketing School.
We have ordered the Balinjera dish for two, and it includes:
The Ethiopian bread (Injera) that is topped with various stews (we also had it rolled inside a bowl).
The stews:
Two types of Ethiopian Hummus dips - a brown one which is a little bit spicy, and another yellow one (that very much resembles corn), and is not spicy at all.
Brown cabbage with onion dip.
Yellow potato, carrot, and cabbage dip.
Green lentils dip.
Mangold leaves dip.
Orange lentils dip.
And lastly we had the Ethiopian Berbere hot sauce.
Price - 85 ILS ($23.72)
Address: Malan St 4
Tewodros - (תיאודרוס)
In this restaurant I have tried a dish called Dullet which is a a spicy mixture of tripe, liver beef, and peppers.
It is served with Mitmita, which is an Ethiopian Spicy powdered seasoning mix, and a red hot sauce that very much resembles Zhug – which is the Yemeni hot sauce.
One of the customers (Avi) has shared with me his grilled lamb dish that is called Yebeg Tibs.
I liked his dish more than I liked my dish, and it was my favorite in the whole tour.
My Dish Price - 65 ILS ($18.14)
Avi's Dish Price - 80 ILS ($22.34)
Allenby St 13
Habash (חבש)
Three sisters own this restaurant, and they have been running it for the past 9 years.
I have ordered an incredible mixed meat dish which includes several meat dishes inside it.
It is Injira bread on a tray with salad in the middle of it, and then 4 stews around the salad.
The meats are ground beef, then Goulash (which is a stew of meat that is not spicy at all), Goulash dip that is spicy, and finally potato and carrot dip.
Price - 69 ILS ($19.25)
Address: Ha-Negev St 10
Lucy (לוסי)
One of the most well known restaurants in Tel Aviv serving authentic Ethiopian food is called Lucy.
The Lucy restaurant is a 5 minute walk from the Habash restaurant.
This time I have invited my younger brother to eat with me.
The first thing I saw when I entered the kitchen was a beautiful vegetarian dish that was prepared for another customer, and it is called Firfir.
It is a combination of shredded Injera bread that is mixed with berbere spice, black paper, spicy paprika, garlic, onion, and tomato.
I ordered a dish called Tibs. Which is beef, pan-fried with peppers, onions, garlic, a touch of rosemary, and it is served with salad.
My brother ordered two different beef dishes that were mixed together (one of the beef dishes is called Alicha Sega Wot, and the other is called Kai Sega Wot).
Alicha Sega Wot contains beef cubes that are prepared with curry, and various spices)
And Kai Sega Wot contains beef cubes with red Ethiopian pepper sauce, and additional spices.
Both dishes were served with yellow beans, green lentils, red lentils, and shiro - which is a stew that combines yellow lentils with allot of spices.
My dish was served with two additional hot spices (a green one that tastes like Wasabi, and a red one).
My brother and I both agreed that our meals were off the charts.
Price For Each Dish - 50 ILS ($13.95)
Address: Derech Menachem Begin St 48
My Ethiopian food adventure was absolutely Amazing.
I have came to this food trip thinking that only Ethiopians eat Ethiopian food in Israel and that I will sample some strange food that I have never ate before.
I was totally wrong.
The Ethiopian cuisine is sublime, and I actually saw more Israelis eat it in than Ethiopians.
