The Artist Talks: Rodel Tapaya on Urban Labyrinth

Internationally-renowned Filipino artist, Rodel Tapaya, explains his vision and process on creating the fantastical realism of his exhibit, Urban Labyrinth.

ABOUT RODEL TAPAYA:
Now a multi-awarded international artist, Tapaya is considered as one of the leading Filipino visual artists of his generation. Tapaya started to gain widespread recognition by earning the APB Foundation Signature Art Prize and Nokia Arts Awards Asia in 2011. Tapaya’s works have been showcased in galleries across Singapore, Italy, Germany, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and China.

ABOUT URBAN LABYRINTH:
Urban Labyrinth featured 18 new works consisting of large scale paintings, works under glass and on paper, and video work. The pieces are packed with fantastical characters and hypnotic imagery, depicting the complexity of life in informal urban settlements in the Philippines. It was on show from February 23 – April 15, 2018.

Art Fair Philippines 2015 Raises the Bar of Modern and Contemporary Art in Makati. Modern and Contemporary Art continue to thrive in the Philippines, with many local artists veering away from traditions of the past in favor of experimentation. True to its ever changing nature art calls for constant innovation, new ways of seeing and fresh ideas about the nature of materials and functions of art. One trip to the city that makes it all happen, Makati, is all it takes to to view and appreciate beguiling representations of the genre.

On its third installment, Makati once again plays host to Art Fair Philippines, the country's showcase of modern and contemporary art slated from February 5 to February 8, 2015 with a Vernissage on February 4 at 7PM at the 6th and 7th floors of the The Link carpark strategically located at Ayala Center. Last year a record 10,000 people trooped to the venue.

To raise the bar for this year's fair, Art Fair Philippines 2015 organized by Philippine Art Events Inc. has expanded its portfolio of participating galleries and boosted its special exhibitions and art talks.

Of the 33 participating exhibitors, eight are from overseas which proves the growing interest among Southeast Asian neighbors in modern and contemporary art and the country's leading platform for it, Art Fair Philippines. This was my second time around here in Ayala Malls. We have celebrated something here and a bonding, it just so happen it's midnight so we are struggling to find a restaurant so I came up for vlogging while we are strolling. As I have mention before on my first video that we got here, their restaurants here are different because the ambience are great they differ on uniqueness of styles. But it's much expensive but there are fastfood also. Variety of restaurants Japanese cuisines, Filipino cuisines, Buffet, Samgyup, Tea Shops and Bakeries.

The New Filipinas Heritage Library

Located at the 6th floor of the Ayala Museum in Makati City, it is a contemporary space for the contemporary researcher.

The Filipinas Heritage Library is home to over 2,000 rare books, its Himig Collection of vinyl records and music sheets, and over 35,000 images on Philippine culture from the 15th century to the 21st century, World War II documents, and books from the Roderick Hall collection, and the Elpidio Quirino presidential papers.
