Daegu, South Korea - City, Tower and Seomun Market
This is a video of my trip to South Korea I did in August 2012. Daegu (대구) is the fourth largest city after Seoul, Busan and Incheon, and the third largest metropolitan area in the nation. The city is the capital and principal city of the surrounding Gyeongsangbuk-do province, although it is not legally part of the province. Daegu is located in south-eastern Korea about 80 km from the seacoast, near the Geumho River and its mainstream, Nakdong River in Gyeongsang-do. The Daegu basin, where the city lies, is the central plain of the Yeongnam region, making the city the natural center of the region's politics, economy, and culture.

SOUTH KOREA: CEREMONY HELD FOR FIRE VICTIMS
Korean/Nat
South Korea's president, Kim Dae-jung, demanded stricter safety standards on Thursday in the wake of a blaze that took the lives of 19 children and four adults in a summer camp dormitory made of shipping containers.
As police began an investigation, family members and teachers were already squarely placing the blame on the owner of the camp and government officials who allowed it to operate.
Meanwhile a public mourning ceremony was held in Seoul to commemorate the deaths.
A makeshift altar adorned with pictures of the fire victims was set up inside a government building in capital Seoul.
The immensity of the grief felt was clearly demonstrated by the mother of one of the young victims.
Her son, Han Song-yi, was only six when he was caught in the deadly blaze at a summer camp in Hwasung, in the region's south west on Wednesday.
Families of the 19 kindergarten and primary school children killed in the dormitory fire turned out in force to comfort each other through one of the worst accidents South Korea has seen this year.
Many were angry at the government, accusing it of lax enforcement of safety standards.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
I blame this on the government. That is how everybody sees it. This is the government's fault.
SUPER CAPTION: Shim Byung-un, 64 year old grandfather of victim, Lee Hyung Min
President Kim Dae-jung later stopped by the site to offer comfort to the bereaved group and pay tribute to the victims.
The president had earlier promised a thorough investigation into the tragedy and said stricter measures must be taken to strengthen safety standards, especially for facilities used by children.
But he was lost for words when he addressed the grieving mourners offering only his deepest sympathy to the loss of so many innocent infants.
Parents and newspapers have criticised the government for its lax safety standards.
Government officials conceded that the camp may have met safety standards, eased after Kim came to office
16 months ago in response to public complaints about over-regulation.
Now opposition politicians are demanding that the president apologize for the tragedy.
Some, like Shim Byung-un, couldn't contain his anger, realising that the government could do nothing to bring his grandson back.
The blaze had swept through the three-story dormitory at the camp in Hwasung, 60 miles (97 kilometres) southwest of Seoul.
The fire broke out in a third-floor room where 18 children from one kindergarten in Seoul were asleep.
All were trapped inside and died.
One child and four adults also died in two different third-floor rooms.
The first floor of the gutted dormitory was a concrete block structure, on which 54 freight containers were stacked to make two upper floors.
Styrofoam and wood panels and other flammable materials were also used to build the dormitory, which collapsed into charred ruins before firefighters could contain the blaze.
Police said an electrical short-circuit may have caused the fire but the main part of the investigation would also go to finding out how a government licensed camp accommodating 6-hundred children couldn't have proper fire-extinguishing systems.
Police said 26 year old Kim Yong-se the owner of the Sealand Youth Training Center, could still face criminal charges if he was found to have violated other safety standards.
Police said they also were issuing arrest warrants for two structural engineers involved in the construction of the camp.
Also facing investigation were local government officials who licensed the facility.

Iphone camera capturing redlight districk at Suwon 45min away by train from Seoul South Korea.
