Miletus Museum, Balat, Didim, Aydın Province, Turkey, Asia
Miletus Museum is a small but very attractive venue. In 2011, it was finally reopened after a long renovation, in a new building after many years of closure. It was worth the wait here one can admire not only the exhibits found in the area of the ancient city of Miletus but also from Priene and Didyma. What's more, the museum is well-prepared for visitors, as there are information boards and plans, described not only Turkish but also in English. The exhibits displayed in the museum are presented in accordance with their age and the place of origin. Most objects, naturally, come from the Miletus. The oldest items from this location date back to the Minoan and Mycenaean periods, when Miletus kept close contact with Crete and Greece. Most of the objects are dated to the Classical, Hellenistic, and Roman times. Among the objects, there are terracotta figurines, ceramics, and jewellery - exquisite gold pendants, necklaces, and rings. One can also admire numerous statues, including river god Meander in repose, taken from the Baths of Faustina. This part of the museum collection is complemented by the exhibits from a nearby hill Zeytintepe, which was a sanctuary of the goddess Aphrodite. There are also objects from Kazartepe - the necropolis from the Hellenistic and Roman times, located south of Miletus. A significant part of the museum space is occupied by the finds from Priene, including statues, ceramics, lamps, and the fragments of the Temple of Athena. The exhibits from Didyma are mainly the statues from the Sacred Way that linked this sanctuary with Miletus.

Miletus Ancient City (Aydın, Turkey)
Miletus (Milet in Turkish) was an ancient Greek city on the western coast of Anatolia, near the mouth of the Maeander River in ancient Caria. Its ruins are located near the modern village of Balat in Aydın Province, Turkey. Before the Persian invasion in the middle of the 6th century BC, Miletus was considered the greatest and wealthiest of Greek cities.
Evidence of first settlement at the site has been made inaccessible by the rise of sea level and deposition of sediments from the Maeander. The first available evidence is of the Neolithic. In the early and middle Bronze age the settlement came under Minoan influence. Legend has it that an influx of Cretans occurred displacing the indigenous Leleges. The site was renamed Miletus after a place in Crete.
The Late Bronze Age, 13th century BC, saw the arrival of Luwian language speakers from south central Anatolia calling themselves the Carians. Later in that century other Greeks arrived. The city at that time rebelled against the Hittite Empire. After the fall of that empire the city was destroyed in the 12th century BC and starting about 1000 BC was resettled extensively by the Ionian Greeks. Legend offers an Ionian foundation event sponsored by a founder named Neleus from the Peloponnesus.
The Greek Dark Ages were a time of Ionian settlement and consolidation in an alliance called the Ionian League. The Archaic Period of Greece began with a sudden and brilliant flash of art and philosophy on the coast of Anatolia. In the 6th century BC, Miletus was the site of origin of the Greek philosophical (and scientific) tradition, when Thales, followed by Anaximander and Anaximenes (known collectively, to modern scholars, as the Milesian School) began to speculate about the material constitution of the world, and to propose speculative naturalistic (as opposed to traditional, supernatural) explanations for various natural phenomena.
Miletus is the birthplace of the Hagia Sophia's architect (and inventor of the flying buttress) Isidore of Miletus and Thales, a pre-Socratic Greek philosopher (and one of the Seven Sages of Greece) in c. 624 BC.

Miletus Ancient City - Aydın/TURKEY
Hope you enjoyed my video. In my trip to Didim, Altinkum i also go to Apollon Temple and Miletus Ancient City. If you go there you have to visit these two places.
Temple of Apollo, Didim, Aydin Province, Turkey, Asia
Didyma was an ancient Greek sanctuary on the coast of Ionia. It contained a temple and oracle of Apollo, the Didymaion. In Greek didyma means twin, but the Greeks who sought a twin at Didyma ignored the Carian origin of the name. Next to Delphi, Didyma was the most renowned oracle of the Hellenic world, first mentioned among the Greeks in the Homeric Hymn to Apollo. Its establishment preceded literacy and even the Hellenic colonization of Ionia. Mythic genealogies of the origins of the Branchidae line of priests, designed to capture the origins of Didyma as a Hellenic tradition, date to the Hellenistic period. The ruins of Didyma are located a short distance to the northwest of modern Didim in Aydin Province, Turkey, whose name is derived from the ruins. Didyma was the largest and most significant sanctuary on the territory of the great classical city Miletus. To approach it, visitors would follow the Sacred Way to Didyma, about 17 km long. Along this route were ritual waystations, and statues of male and female members of the Branchidae family, as well as animal figures. Some of these statues, dating to the 6th century BC, are now in the British Museum, taken by the British archaeologist Charles Newton in the 19th century.

Priene Antik Kenti (Aydın-Söke)
Priene Antik kenti
Efes antik kentine yaklaşık 100 km mesafede İyonlar tarafından kurulmuştur. Şehir kurulduğunda denize kıyısı vardı fakat menderes'in alüvyon taşıması sebebiyle şuan içeride kalmıştır.

Its ruins are located near the modern village of Balat in Aydın Province, Turkey. Before the Persian invasion in the middle of the 6th century BC, Miletus was considered the greatest and wealthiest of Greek cities. In other sources however it is mentioned that the city was much more modest up until the Peloponnesian War (431-404 BC), when, for example, the city state of Samos on the island of Samos opposite Miletus was considered a larger and more important city and harbor. Miletus' greatest wealth and splendor was reached during the Hellenistic era (323-30 BC) and later Roman times. Evidence of first settlement at the site has been made inaccessible by the rise of sea level and deposition of sediments from the Maeander. The first available evidence is of the Neolithic.
