CHAO PHRAYA RIVER CRUISE FROM AYUTTHAYA TO BANGKOK
After visiting the ancient city of Ayutthaya and learning about the capital of the kingdom of Siam, we took a boat on our way back to Bangkok on the Chao Phraya river. The river cruise takes a couple of hours but it is very comfortable and with good Thai food. By cruising in the Chao Phraya river from Ayutthaya we can see temples, Buddha statues and villages, until we get to the skyscrapers of Bangkok.
Ayutthaya (พระนครศรีอยุธยา) city is the capital of Ayutthaya province in Thailand. The city was founded in 1350 by King U Thong, who went there to escape a smallpox outbreak in Lop Buri and proclaimed it the capital of his kingdom, often referred to as the Ayutthaya kingdom or Siam. It is estimated that Ayutthaya by the year 1600 CE had a population of about 300,000, with the population perhaps reaching 1,000,000 around 1700 CE, making it one of the world's largest cities at that time.
In 1767 the city was destroyed by the Burmese army, resulting in the collapse of the kingdom. The ruins of the old city now form the Ayutthaya historical park, which is recognized internationally as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya
City in Thailand
Ayutthaya is a city in Thailand, about 80 kilometers north of Bangkok. It was capital of the Kingdom of Siam, and a prosperous international trading port, from 1350 until razed by the Burmese in 1767. The ruins of the old city now form the Ayutthaya Historical Park, an archaeological site that contains palaces, Buddhist temples, monasteries and statues.
In 1767, the city was destroyed by the Burmese army, resulting in the collapse of the kingdom. The ruins of the old city are preserved in the Ayutthaya historical park,[5] which is recognised internationally as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The ruins, characterised by the prang (reliquary towers) and gigantic monasteries, give an idea of the city's past splendour.[6] Modern Ayutthaya was refounded a few kilometres to the east.

Ayutthaya Day Trip From Bangkok | The BEST Temples in Thailand
An Ayutthaya day trip from Bangkok is completely doable (and easy) all on your own! We left from our hotel near the Sutthisan Metro Station in Bangkok and headed north to Bang Sue Railway Station where trains depart for Ayutthaya every hour. Approximately two hours later, we arrived at the Ayutthaya Station, walked directly west to the ferry, and rented bikes across the river (rental bikes are 50 baht for the day on this side, and you do not have to pay extra to transport them on the ferry).
The rest of the day was spent meandering through the expansive Ayutthaya UNESCO World Heritage Site, quite possibly the best temples in Thailand. We visited four main sites (Wat Mahathat, Wat Ratcha Burana, Wat Phra Si Sanphet, and Wat Chai Wattanaram), but there are countless more that you could spend multiple days exploring. Most temples have an entrance fee of 50 baht, but we attended during the holiday period and were lucky to have free entry!

Look around Ayutthaya train station and river crossing, Thailand
Thailand. This is a look right after arriving into Ayutthaya station. Perpendicular to rail is road, which leads to this small river crossing. If you want rent bicycle do it before this river crossing. On the other side bicycle rentals is far away. Ayutthaya old town is not that big. Walking around is possible, but might be very hot during daytime. More about Ayutthaya in other videos later.

Amazing Ayutthaya Day Tour by Bus and Boat
Ayutthaya was founded in 1350 and was the second capital city of Siam after Sukhothai. Sadly it was destroyed by invading Burmese armies in the 18th century. Happily, you can visit on an amazing Ayutthaya Day Tour by Bus and Boat.
We booked a day tour on our favorite booking platform Getyourguide.com. The Tour is called From Bangkok: Ayutthaya Day Tour by Bus and Boat, and the cost was US $57 per person. The duration of the tour is 9 hours and it includes transfers to and from your hotel. Not only that it includes a sumptuous 3-course lunch on board the cruise boat.
Pick up time is about 6:30 am from your hotel by a mini-bus. The mini-bus takes you to a bus terminal at River City Bangkok, where you’re transferred to a coach to drive to Ayutthaya. We arrived back at our hotel at around 4:30 pm.

The Ferry Ride to Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya
I was able to figure out how to get on a train to Ayutthaya and did so. The trip was quite interesting as I purchased a general boarding pass and stood the entire way. The train was quite old as was the city. You get off the train, walk over to a small boat, take it across the channel and wander into the city. See more pictures and information at wizardofwhere.com
Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Thailand
Ayutthaya city, the ancient capital of Thailand, is the capital of Ayutthaya province in Thailand. Located in the valley of the Chao Phraya River, the city was founded in 1350 by King U Thong, who went there to escape a smallpox outbreak
The Ancient Ruins of Ayutthaya, Thailand
Ayutthaya was the former Thai capital for 400 years. You can easily spend the day in Ayutthaya but we had less than an hour before the bus to Sukhothai left. What to do but only visit the most important sections, in this video.
Fortunately, we visited once before. Made unforgettable when a SNAKE fell out of a tree a short distance away while we walked through the ruins! If that doesn't cut a long term memory groove in your brain, nothing will.
