The main island of the Azores, São Miguel still maintains a unique charm where life is polite and unhurried. It’s a great island for a first visit with easy flight connections, a wealth of things to see and activities to do, and some of the Azores’ most spectacular volcanic scenery.
From quiet fishing villages to remote crater lakes to boiling pools, this island has it all.
Visit SãoMiguel's three stunning crater lakes – Sete Cidades, Furnas and Lagoa do Fogo. Sete Cidades, a green, fairy-tale crater with its twin lakes is almost ten miles in circumference while Lagoa do Fogo (Fire Lake) is the most remote of the lakes set within an imposing mountain range.
For a leisurely trip, visit the pretty fishing port of Caloura stopping at one of the coastal restaurants on the way to try the local seafood, or head for the sandy beaches at Populo and Praia, both excellent spots to refresh and relax.
Through the city gates of the bustling capital, Ponta Delgada, lies a traditional centre home to some beautiful examples of Portuguese architecture dating back to the 17th century. A whole day can easily be spent here, visiting the museums and churches and sampling the local delicacies of pineapple, cheeses, wines, fresh fish and liqueurs. The valley of Furnas in the eastern highlands is a true paradise; with its beautiful flower-lined lake, botanical garden and Caldeiras (hot springs) it is guaranteed to make your stay a truly memorable one.
São Miguel also offers the widest range of activities throughout the year from whale watching to canyoning, from family cycle rides to birdwatching tours.
Of all the islands, São Miguel offers the widest range of beautiful accommodation. With romantic boutique style hotels, modern Scandinavian style chalets, and traditional manor houses, there is sure to be somewhere to suit you.

B&B by Lapsa is located in downtown Ponta Delgada, in the São Miguel island of the Azores. The renovated building dates back to 1927 and features high ceilings and plenty of natural light coming from the large windows.
The unit is decorated in a modern and minimalist style. The house has 3 bedrooms, an equipped kitchen, 1 bathroom and free WiFi access. The living room features a dining table.
Guests may prepare their own meals in the equipped kitchen at their disposal. The nearby Ponta Delgada centre features various restaurants within a 5-minute walk, where guests may enjoy traditional Portuguese meals.
The marina is 0.6 miles away. Ponta Delgada’s harbour is a 10-minute walk and features boat connections with other Island in the archipelago. Ponta Delgada Airport is an 8-minute drive from the B&B by Lapsa.
