Tour the Luxurious Hellbrunn Palace Rooms Salzburg, Austria
Yes. As Mel Brook's once said, It's good to be King. But, if you can't be King, what's wrong with being a Prince in the Seventeenth Century? Obviously nothing as proved by Hellbrunn Palace built as a summer pleasure palace by Salzburg's Prince Archbishop Markus Sittikus von Hohenems.
After a fun tour of the trick fountains (Wasserspiele), Steve and I entered the Palace to tour the ornate rooms using an audio headset included in the entrance price of 10.50 Euro per adult.
Only an Archbishop was allowed to have the best and rarest of everything (including the ugliest dwarf); epitomized by his collections and separated into separate rooms, e.g., Flora, fish, curious oddities, etc. Only 10 actual rooms are open to the public but what...a...place!

Salzburg Fortress Hohensalzburg
Salzburg Fortress: Salzburg’s most important attraction is castle on the hill…You do not want to miss a visit to this citadel, which is claimed to be the largest and best-preserved medieval castle in Europe. It is not enough to just simply look at it from down below -- you need to go up and walk through the grounds, and perhaps pay the admission to visit inside on a guided tour. Called the Hohensalzburg Fortress, this castle is so big that it feels like you are walking through a medieval village -- one of those spectacular old walled towns, with courtyards, neighborhoods and different types of buildings scattered about. The existing castle was begun in the 11th century and still retains this feeling of the ages. It was originally built as a refuge for the archbishops who sided with the Pope in church battles against the princes of South Germany. These archbishops ruled Salzburg for 1,000 years, using the tremendous wealth they mined from the salt deposits to build a city unlike any other, full of churches, palaces and mansions by the best designers and builders of each era. The castle was frequently enlarged and remodeled, becoming a comfortable residence for the bishops and their court. Construction finally was finished by the end of the 17th century, with the addition of towers, staterooms, bastions for cannons and barbicans, and the construction of magazines and arms depots. All together, the complex we see today took six hundred years to build. You can see exhibits about the various archbishops and the history of the region inside the castle museum, which also has plans and prints showing the growth of Salzburg, and a military museum with suits of armor and ancient weapons. Inside you will also see the intricate Gothic wood-carvings and ornamental paintings that decorate the Golden Hall and the Golden Chamber. Many evenings there are chamber music concerts here that take advantage of the excellent acoustics and small size of the Princess Room.

WHAT TO SEE IN SALZBURG AUSTRIA IN ONE DAY ⏳????????
Salzburg is located in central Austria at the northern edge of the alps, with a population on 150,000 people. It is the fourth largest city in Austria and a popular destination for 4 reasons: it's famous baroque architecture deemed the old town a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it's the birthplace of Mozart, the Salzburg music festival, and it is famous for being the filming location of the The Sound of Music. The city is divided by the Salzach river, with the new part of town on one side and the old part on the other.
1. Hohensalzburg - translates to high Salzburg fortress perched high above the baroque towers of the city. It is the city's famous landmark and one of the largest, fully preserved medieval castles in Europe. Construction began in 1077, built under the archbishop Gebhard during the time when Salzburg was a city in the Holy Roman Empire. Even though you see many cannons, it was never actually used in battle. It was so foreboding that nobody every attacked Salzburg for 1000 years!
The fortress is accessible by cable car, making it one of the major tourist attractions. It is also my favorite spot for panoramic views of the city. Make sure to grab a bite at one of the cafes at the top of the castle and appreciate the views of the alps.
2. Mozart's Birthplace - This is Mozart's childhood home. He lived on the third floor for 26 years and is now a museum. Mozart is regarded as one of the greatest composers of the classical period and recognized as a prodigy and one of the most prolific artists. By age 6 he was writing his own compositions. The music plays almost everywhere in this city, and many shops and tourist attractions are dedicated to him.
3. DomQuartier - If you like Baroque architecture, you will love photographing the grandiosity of the DomQuartier. The DomQuartier is the cultural highlight in the heart of the city. The archbishop was key in building this opulent city - he strived to make Salzburg the Rome of the north. The city's planning and architecture is such a masterpiece that it is protected by UNESCO. It includes the Salzburg Cathedral constructed in the early 16oos. The historic old town survived the ravages of the war, and is hence where most of the tourist attractions are located.
4. Residenzplatz - Residence Square - Is part of the old town and one of the most impressive attractions in Salzburg.
5. The Sound of Music was filmed in 1965, and tours of the filming locations make Salzburg a popular destination.
If you are in central Europe, be sure to visit Salzburg.

We love to travel by train in Europe. More comfortable than a bus, less hassles than flying, with lots of nice scenery gliding by.
Another popular way to travel here is the river cruise, but the problem is you only stay in the city for a day or less. So you really don't see that much on a river cruise.
Traveling by train gives you that flexibility to stay in a city for two or three days, as we do in our trip, producing a more authentic in-depth experience. Jump to city by clicking timecode
