Steam Train at the BC Forest Discovery Centre - Canada Day 2017

These are several shots I took of the steam train running around (and onboard) at the BC Forest Discovery Centre located in Duncan, BC, Canada. We visited during the Canada 150 celebrations on July 1, 2017. The railway is 3' narrow gauge and is a figure 8 that winds around the property. There is a lot of other interesting logging trains, buildings and equipment around the property and it is very much worth a visit!

Enjoy a Halloween Train ride with an enthusiastic two year old who loves trains, especially Thomas. The BC Forest Discovery Centre has over almost 3 km of operational railway, including a trestle over Somenos Lake.
The BC Forest Discovery Centre is a 100-acre, open air museum with an operational railway in Duncan, British Columbia. The Centre features forest and marsh trails with excellent bird watching opportunities. The story of BC's forest industry is shared through exhibits, heritage buildings, and logging artifacts. Special events are offered throughout the year that include family activities and workshops for adults and seniors.

The Centre is operated by the BC Forest Museum Society, a non-profit and charitable organization

BC Forest Discovery Center steam

A little steam train rides on the tracks in the British Columbia Forest Discovery Center. The steam engine of this train, no. 25, is called “Samson. This narrow gauge (36 inch) 0-4-0 engine was built in 1910 for the Grant Small & Company, a construction contractor based in Leavenworth and Spokane, Washington. Later it was sold to the Cowichan Valley Railway (CVR). Since 1998 it's part of the BC Forest Discovery Center.

Vicki Holman discusses the BC Forest Discovery Centre from its origins as a private collection assembled by founder Gerry Wellburn and his family, the BC Forest Discovery Centre has grown to become one of Duncan's favourite attractions. The museum's collections include over 5,000 artifacts ranging from operational steam locomotives to chainsaws, as well as a dozen heritage buildings.
