Villa Horti Della Fasanara - Boutique Hotel a Ferrara

The Scope of the Book - English:
The purpose of this book is to let the world know that a kitchen for centuries of culinary tradition is part of the city of Ferrara and that has never gone beyond the city walls. Ferrara is located 40 km northeast of Bologna, on the fly Po, a branch of the Po River located 5 km north of the city. Ferrara appears for the first time in a document of the Lombard king Desiderius, in 753 AD but it knows its peak during the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance during the reign of the Dukes of Este, in particular between the end of 1400 and the ' beginning of 1500 under Duke Ercole d'Este, one of the most important patrons of the arts in Ferrara is one of the most fervent cultural centers of Italy, arriving to host the most famous writers, poets, painters and artists.
Ferrara, thanks to cutting-edge urban expansion project architect Biagio Rossetti, became the first modern city in Europe. The city is predominantly Catholic, with a minority belonging to the Jewish and Christian Orthodox. The Jewish community of Ferrara in Emilia Romagna is the only one that has a continuous presence in the middle Ages to the present day. He played an important role when Ferrara knew its heyday in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries under the reign of Duke Ercole d'Este. Many of the dishes from the Middle Ages Ferrara and some of them show the influences of traditional Jewish cuisine.
The pumpkin hats are the traditional first course in the city of Ferrara is a sort of ravioli stuffed with pumpkin, Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese and flavored with nutmeg. They are served with a ragout or simply with butter and sage in this book will revisit this dish and many other wonderful maintaining the same ingredients, but with a new modern touch in presentation. We invite you to enjoy our first edition of Ferrara hidden culinary jewel that will lead directly into your hands these old goodies in this small town in northern Italy.

Uniworld River Cruising in Northern Italy with Cheryl Chegwidden
Preferred Travel of Naples
239.261.1177
Hi. I’m Cheryl Chegwidden. I work for Preferred Travel of Naples. I am a senior travel consultant and have been in the business for over 25 years and honestly this is my passion. It’s my life. Its everything I wanted to be and I hope I can share it with you today.
Today, I’m going to talk a little about Northern Italy and gems of Northern Italy with Uniworld. I was fortunate to be able to experience that with my daughter, so it’s more of a multi-generational trip that I’ll be chatting to you about.
So, my daughter and I, who is 14 went on this trip in July of 2016. It was the summer, beautiful weather… lovely time to go. Busy, but one of the recommended time times to travel in Europe even though it is a busy time.
This was a river cruise through Northern Italy and particularly Venice Lagoon. We were able to travel north and south on the Venice Lagoon and into the Po River. It’s a very quite, scenic and sedate river. Very unlike the Danube or the Rhine with very tiny, beautiful, old very mid-evil villages along the river.
Going into this trip, I had very low expectations. It was an itinerary that was very low-key and I had tried once or twice to try and sell this particular itinerary. It didn’t have the glamour that a lot of the other itineraries had. It didn’t have the sparkle that perhaps the Danube had but after experiencing it I think this was definitely one of my favorite trips of all time because we were able to see some of the small villages of Italy. We were able to experience more of the culture, the locals. We were able to see and do what the locals do. It is definitely an itinerary that I would highly recommend, especially for multi-generational families.
One of the highlights of the trip was enjoying St. Mark’s Basilica at night with the lighting ceremony that Uniworld was able to put together for us. We were also able to enjoy Murano glass making. We visited Verona, which is the city of Romeo and Juliet. We were able to visit Padua, which has the second largest university and oldest university in Italy built in 1222 and the home of Galileo. So, that was quite amazing.
With regards to the children, the children had on a daily basis an activity that they were able to enjoy depending on where we were. So, for example in Venice, they were able to take part in a gondola ride across the lagoon with a local expert. They were able to paint masks in Murano while we were doing some glass making. They were able to enjoy a full afternoon of pasta making in Bologna while we were able to enjoy lunch there and they made our pasta for us. So, there were always involved on a daily basis with a local expert while the adults were either able to join them or were able to go on a totally different excursion that was adult only.
There is this certain thought process is a little too laid back or for an older generation as opposed to your ocean liners and after experiencing Uniworld River Cruises I have a really good sense on how to bring the children in and have them immerse themselves in the country as opposed to a day by day stop. This particular trip allowed them to enjoy the culture, the history, the people and the food. Any child who is an academic would love this particular itinerary because it focuses on all areas whether you enjoy art or history, whether you just enjoy travel or different sights or sounds or whether you enjoy music.
One of the very fascinating things Uniworld was able to do for us on one of our last evenings was my daughter really enjoys her euphonium and a Vivaldi concert was in town. I had asked Uniworld if it would be possible to purchase tickets for Vivaldi as a birthday gift for her and they were able to do that within five minutes. They really go the extra mile and they really take the children into account. We had children on board that ranged from six to seventeen. It was a wide group and yet they were able to accommodate them and have them bond together. Age did not come into it.
You can reach us at Preferred Travel of Naples at 239.261.1177 or please feel free to visit our website at We are here for you each and every day and we’d love to connect you to a travel expert. Thank you.

Italian River Cruises • Aboard the 20 Passenger La Bella Vita | European Waterways
When it comes to river cruises, Italy is one of the best destinations around. Our cruises around Italy will let you discover that country’s hidden beauty! These waterways were once the ancient trade routes used by the Romans and the early Mediterranean settlers before them, and cruises around Italy are perfect for gaining a real insight into the many cultures.
Throughout the season the 20 passenger La Bella Vita provides Italian river cruises that encompass the romance and architecture of Venice as well as the captivating lakeside setting of the Renaissance city of Mantua. Venice is, of course, the crowning jewel of most Italian river cruises, but Mantua, in central northern Italy, has also been (and still is) a hub of art, culture and music for centuries. The route inland takes you along the River Po and the Bianco Canal through the Po Valley.
Delicious seafood, local culinary specialities, fine wines and attentive service complete the experience of this fairytale adventure, and explain the appeal of our boutique Italian river cruises. Luxuriating in a friendly and relaxing boat environment, travellers have an opportunity for a unique perspective on some magnificent Italian cities.
La Bella Vita is the perfect vessel aboard which to embark in one of our cruises around Italy and to immerse yourself in Italian Renaissance culture. When it comes to river cruises, Italy is indeed hard to beat!
What is hotel barging?
Despite the growing popularity of cruising, especiallly on large river vessels, hotel barging is still a little known niche concept. Most hotel barges started life as cargo vessels but have since been painstakingly converted to offer luxury boutique accommodation for small groups of up to 20 passengers. This is cruising, but in a very different style to ships plying the big rivers or oceans.
The pace is slow, with a 6 day cruise covering maybe just 50 miles along a rural canal. Passengers can walk or bike the towpaths as their floating hotel glides gently along. Guests enjoy an intimate atmosphere, high levels of personal service and immersion into the culture, history and gastronomy of regions of Europe such as Burgundy, the Midi, or the Italian Veneto.
Every day there is an excursion, perhaps to a chateau, a vineyard for a wine tasting, or some other ‘off the beaten track’ location. About half of European Waterways’ bookings are for whole boat charters, ideal for families. Otherwise, clients book a cabin to join other like-minded people. A ‘slow boat’ European Waterways barge cruise offers the ultimate in experiential travel. A truly unique experience!
European Waterways offer luxury hotel barge cruises on the beautiful canals and rivers of Europe, such as through Burgundy, the Midi, Alsace, the Po Valley, Holland and the Scottish Highlands. The exclusive collection of hotel barges accommodate up to 20 passengers who may charter a whole barge with family or friends, or join a small group of like-minded travellers on an individual cabin basis.
Each barge is fully crewed with a Captain, chef, hostesses, deck-hand and tour guide. The 6-night cruises include gourmet meals, fine wines, open bar, excursions and the use of facilities such as bicycles and spa pools.
