New Baseball Stadium Comes with High Hopes - John Dunn
Stream Fox 17 newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5 am and News at 9 pm.Nashville, Tenn. -- Nashville's new minor league baseball stadium comes with some big promises. City leaders say it will help revitalize North Nashville, boost the economy, and put people to work. The $37 million dollar ballpark represents a major investment along the Jefferson Street corridor, and Mayor Karl Dean believes it has potential to transform the area. This part of Nashville will forever be changed by this new ballpark, and I look forward to the economic growth that will result, says Mayor Karl Dean. There is hope for new restaurants, businesses, and shops, and plenty of new jobs. The goal is to put local people to work immediately constructing the ballpark. We want everybody that has got a craft to be put to work. We want to use them first, says Metro Councilman Walter Hunt.Hiring local workers was also emphasized during the construction of the Music City Center. Council members say a similar effort will be undertaken with the stadium. The workforce development will have a trailer on site where you can apply for jobs, just like we did at the Music City Center, says Metro Councilman at-large Jerry Maynard.A few shovels of dirt come with big expectations. Leaders say the ballpark will be state of the art and a crown jewel of minor league baseball. Dean believes the benefits begin immediately. The economic returns from this project will benefit the community for decades to come, says Mayor Dean.As part of the construction the contractor will also be required to hire a certain number of businesses owned by women and minorities. They will all be working toward opening day in April 2015.For news updates follow John Dunn on twitter @WZTVJohnDunnFollow us on Twitter @wztv_fox17 and LIKE us on Facebook for updates.

***Stadium Disclaimer***
We STRONGLY discourage anyone from EVER flying a drone/UAS over a major stadium during any event. We flew over Bank of America, UNC Charlotte's stadiums, and Charlotte Motor Speedway during the off season in compliance to the FAA law listed below:
FDC 9/5151, issued under 14 CFR 99.7 on Special Security Instructions, restricts flight over stadiums during Major League Baseball (MLB), National Football League (NFL) regular season, NCAA football, and motor speedway events. The so-called stadium TFR prohibits all aircraft and parachute operations at or below 3,000 AGL within a 3 nm radius of any stadium with a seating capacity of 30,000 or more people when there is an MLB game, regular or post-season NFL game, NCAA Division I football game, or major motor speedway event occurring. This TFR applies to the entire US domestic national airspace system, and takes effect from one hour before the scheduled event time until one hour after the event concludes.
City unveils parking plan for Sounds’ 1st season at First Tennessee Park
Thank you for watching & please subscribe us!
Nashville Mayor Karl Dean Friday morning detailed a parking plan for the Nashville Sounds’ first season at the new First Tennessee Park.
The parking garage under construction adjacent to the park won’t be ready when baseball season begins in April so there will be no parking in the immediate vicinity during the 2015 season.
Fans are instead encouraged to park at the Metro Courthouse Garage at 101 James Robertson Parkway at the Historic Metro Courthouse and take a free shuttle to the ballpark.
Game-day parking in the Metro Courthouse Garage will be $5, the same amount fans paid to park at Greer Stadium.
There will be 800 spots available on game days and the shuttles will run every 10 minutes beginning 90 minutes before the start of the game.
Some state employee parking lots on the west side of James Robertson Parkway and near the Nashville Farmers’ Market will also be available to fans on game days for free but will not open until 5 p.m. and cars cannot be left overnight.
Paid parking will also available in private lots around First Tennessee Park.
Additional parking and transportation options can be found online at ParkItDowntown.com.
“We want our fans to have the most enjoyable experience possible at First Tennessee Park during this inaugural season, and we know that starts with a parking and transportation plan that ensures trips to the ballpark will be as smooth as possible,” Mayor Dean said.
The parking garage next to the stadium will be completed in time for the start of the 2016 season. The garage will have 1,000 spaces for fans.
The new First Tennessee Park is located in Sulphur Dell, just north of downtown Nashville.

Engel Stadium Open House
Joe Engel (the original owner of the Chattanooga Lookouts) built Engel Stadium in 1930. It was their home until September 6, 1999.For the 2000 season they moved to AT&T Field, a new stadium built on Hawk Hill adjacent to the Tennessee River in downtown Chattanooga, Tennessee. While the NEW ballpark IS new, it will never replace Engel for me as Engel is a SHRINE to baseball. Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Willie Mays ALL played on this field in addition to many others in its 69 years as a minor league ballpark. LONG LIVE ENGEL STADIUM!.
