Early English Traffic: Turn of the Century London (1896-1903) | British Pathé
This remarkable archive footage shows London at the turn of the century, 1896-1903, and it turns out the traffic hasn't changed. Catch a rare glimpse at early forms of transportation like steam powered vehicles and at London landmarks like Tower Bridge.
We have been contacted by the Traction Talk Forum who believe that this film may include the world's earliest moving image of a steam powered road vehicle. Members of the forum have noted that the steam lorry shown at 3:43 is a Thornycroft steam lorry, number 27, new in 1900, registration BB26. (BB is the registration for Newcastle upon Tyne.) This engine is fitted with a de Dion boiler and has a distinctive curved axle. It was new to the Newcastle Cooperative Wholesale Society.

Man spotted sticking head out back of HGV near Dover
SHOCKING video has emerged of a man poking his head out the back of an Italian lorry in the South of England.
The incident was caught on dashcam at a roundabout between Faversham and Canterbury in Kent showing the man sticking out of the HGV through a large hole.
This comes after police confirm seven men were arrested yesterday after jumping out the back of a lorry on the same roundabout, and were transported to the Home Office Immigration centre in Dover.
The incident happened yesterday at around 5pm and was captured on dashcam by 59-year-old Julie Webb from Rainham, Kent.

A Walk Around Euston Railway Station, London
Euston railway station or London Euston is a central London railway terminus and one of 19 stations managed by Network Rail. It is the fifth busiest railway station in the UK.
Euston is the southern terminus of the West Coast Main Line, the busiest intercity passenger route in Britain and the main gateway from London to the West Midlands, the North West, North Wales and parts of Scotland. Virgin Trains provides high-speed intercity services to these regions. Its most important long-distance destinations are Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester and Glasgow.
Euston is also the London terminus for London Midland trains providing local commuter and regional services via the WCML from London to Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire and Warwickshire as well as long-distance services to the West Midlands county, Staffordshire and Cheshire. Euston is also the terminus for suburban services on the Watford DC Line operated by London Overground.
It is connected to Euston tube station and near to Euston Square tube station on the London Underground. It is a short walk from King's Cross Station, the southern terminus of the East Coast Main Line, and St Pancras International Station for the Midland Main Line and for Eurostar to France and Belgium. These stations are all in Travelcard Zone 1.
Euston is the gateway to Ireland via Holyhead and ferry to Dublin Port where the previous route was replaced in September 2014 to Dún Laoghaire, for Dublin. Until the 1960s the station was a terminus of the most-frequented London to Belfast route, via Carlisle, the former Castle Douglas and Dumfries Railway and the Portpatrick Railway to Stranraer which was replaced by the longer Glasgow South Western Line via Ayr.

Desmond Rea and Robin Masefield – Policing in Northern Ireland: Delivering the New Beginning?
About the Speech:
Policing in Northern Ireland: Delivering the New Beginning?, a new book by Desmond Rea and Robin Masefield, will be launched by the Minister for Justice, Frances Fitzgerald T.D. The launch will be followed by a discussion on policing involving the two expert authors.
In 1999, the Independent Commission On Policing For Northern Ireland, headed by Lord Patten, concluded that ‘A new beginning for democratic accountability is key to a new beginning for policing and to involving the community as a whole in the delivery of policing.’ This book deals with that new beginning, reflecting on the changes that have taken place in policing in Northern Ireland, particularly in the area of accountability. It offers lessons and contemporary insights for law enforcement officers, accountability bodies and academics worldwide, in areas such as the need for a police service’s composition to reflect the community that it serves; promoting public confidence in policing and policing with the community; upholding human rights in the context of policing civil unrest and terrorism; holding a police service to account while providing the support it requires; and dealing with the legacy of inter-communal violence.
About the Speaker:
The book will be launched by Frances Fitzgerald T.D., Minister for Justice and Equality since
May 2014.
The subsequent discussion will feature the book’s co-authors:
Professor Sir Desmond Rea was Chairman of the Northern Ireland Policing Board’s Chairman for seven and a half years, from its establishment in 2001.
Robin Masefield headed the British Government’s team implementing the recommendations of the Independent Commission.
