A bit of info on the cool bike rental set up in Montreal. This was made just after its launch, so the bikes are really spiffy looking. A really great program with thousands of bikes around the city in special kiosks.
Natalie Reviews Bixi Montréal
Natalie and I take a trip to the old port on Montréals Bixi.
Bixis are super efficient for traveling downtown Montréal especially when you live in between the green and orange metro lines. It is a great option to traveling North or South of MTL without having to take the merry go around of the metro downtown, plus it's a lot faster!
You must pay withh Bixi with a credit card. Day trips usually cost around 5$ and sometimes on Sunday Bixi will make Bixi rentals free. You can also rent by the hour if you don't think you'll be riding around all day or if your you just trying to one point and another.
When you rent a bixi your code to unlock the bikes will last for the whole day or the amount of time you've rented it for. However if your renting for the day your only allowed a maximum of 1 hour intervals which means you will have to find a charging station to dock the bike for a couple of minutes before taking it back out again. Normally if your sight seeing this isn't a big issue because you'll want to dock to see certain areas of the city, eat, or visit some stores. This gives you time to see mtl area by area.
Also bixi has 4 types of bikes. A 3 shift bike, 7 shift bike, and pedal assist bike as well (there the light blue ones) . These 3 options go for your normal rate, the best ones are the pedal assist bixis, they give you a jolt of speed when you start pedalling and make going up hills a breath. The 4th option bike they have is a new fully electric bike. These are black with some green neon writing. These are not your regular price and cost a little bit more than your regular bixi bikes.
Bixi also has memberships and if your student here in mtl you'll get a student discount.
You can sign up free here where they'll send you a free key (fits on your key chain).
