Baba Dhansar (Sheshnag Temple and Pond) - Best of Katra (Vaishno Devi)
The holy place of Baba Dhansar is located at Karua Jheel (Pond) near Katra. It is a beautiful place and a must visit for people who visit Vaishno Devi. It is hardly 12-13 km from Katra. Here, a huge spring gushes out of the mountain side in a thick grove of trees and forms a number of small cascading water-falls before ultimately flowing into the Holy rivulet that merges with the Chenab River. Next to the spring in a small grove in the rock face is a naturally formed Shivling on which droplets of water fall at a constant pace all the year round. A big fair is held here during Shivratri.

Shesh Nag came in the human form as Vasudev. One of the sons of Vasudev was Dhansar who was a saintly person.
As the local belief goes, in the ancient times there was a demon who lived near Karua Jheel(lake) and committed atrocities on the people of village Karua. The villagers sought help of Baba Dhansar to get rid of the Demon. It is believed that Baba Dhansar prayed to Lord Shiva for help. Lord Shiva arrived and helped in killing the Demon. The temple of Baba Dhansar and a cave of Lord Shiva near Karua Jheel has become a place of worship. Karua Jheel is considered sacred where bathing is not permitted. However, the devotees may take a bath downstream. People believe that their wishes are fulfilled if they take bath in the stream and pray with complete faith. A large number of devotees visit the place every year on the day of Mahashivratri when an annual fete (mela) is organized.

The presence of the age old Shiva temple at this place is another reason for the fame of the place. According to mythological belifs when Lord Shiva went to Amarnath to reveal his powers of immortality to Parvati, he left his serpent king Sheshnag at Anantnag. Sheshnag later took human form as Vasudev and bore a son named Dhansar, who turned to be a saintly person. The place is named after this son of Sheshnag as Baba Dhansar.
The major attraction of Dhansar, however, is a gushing spring which emerges from the rocks and disappears into a thick grove of trees, later re-emerging as a number of small waterfalls forming a pool flowing into the valley. It is quite a breathtaking sight to catch. The splendor of the valley blending with the spirituality of the place makes Baba Dhansar into a perfect tourist spot that people from all walks of life can enjoy.
Baba Dhansar is located in the Udhampur district of the Jammu region. It is some 11 km from Katra and 65 km from Jammu city. You can hire a cab to reach this beautiful place.

The Cave is naturally designed that marks presence of Divine Gods in this Cave. It is a cool and much appreciated picnic spot. The highlight(s) are, the greenish blue pond and a huge spring gushing out of the mountain side in thick tree groves forming a number of small cascading waterfalls converging into the Holy rivulet.
Near this rivulet, is a naturally formed Shivalingam on top of which milky water droplets fall continuously throughout the year. All this is natural and one wonders how this was made possible.

Shivkhori(शिव खोड़ी) is a famous cave shrine of Hindus devoted to lord Shiva, situated in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir state in India.
In Reasi district, there are many shrines such as Mata Vaishno Devi, Merhada Mata, Baba Dhansar, Siad Baba. Shiv Khori is one of them located in Ransoo a village in the Pouni block in Reasi district, which attracts lakhs of devotees annually. Shiv Khori is situated in between the hillocks about 140 km north of Jammu, 120 km from Udhampur and 80 km from Katra. Buses and light vehicles go up to Ransoo, the base camp of pilgrimage. People have to traverse about 3 km on foot on a track recently constructed by the Shiv Khori Shrine Board, Ransoo duly headed by the Divisional Commissioner Jammu as Chairman and District Development Commissioner, Reasi as vice chairman.
