Places to see in ( Torquay - UK)
Torquay is a seaside resort town on the English Channel in Devon, south west England. Known for beaches such as Babbacombe and cliffside Oddicombe, its coastline is nicknamed the English Riviera. Torquay Harbour near the town centre offers shops, cafes and a marina. Torre Abbey, a monastery founded in 1196, has art galleries and extensive gardens featuring plants from local writer Agatha Christie's novels.
Torquay is a seaside town in Devon, England, part of the unitary authority area of Torbay. Torquay lies 18 miles (29 km) south of the county town of Exeter and 28 miles (45 km) east-north-east of Plymouth, on the north of Tor Bay, adjoining the neighbouring town of Paignton on the west of the bay and across from the fishing port of Brixham.
Torquay economy, like Brixham's, was initially based upon fishing and agriculture, but in the early 19th century it began to develop into a fashionable seaside resort, initially frequented by members of the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars while the Royal Navy anchored in the bay. Later, as the town's fame spread, it was popular with Victorian society. Renowned for its healthful climate, the town earned the nickname the English Riviera.
The writer Agatha Christie was born in the town and lived there during her early years and there is an Agatha Christie Mile, a tour with plaques dedicated to her life and work.
Torquay has two railway stations. Torquay railway station is situated near the sea, close to Torre Abbey Sands. Torre railway station is situated a little inland adjacent to the road leading to Newton Abbot. Torquay is connected to the UK motorway network by the A380, which traces the outskirts of the town as Hellevoetsluis Way and Hamelin Way, leading to the A38 and the M5 at Exeter.

Babbacombe Downs
This is England.
The breath taking views from Babbacombe Downs. An Excellent Vantage point to absorb one of the most scenic views the UK has to offer, an unspoilt coat line view that extends over 40 miles.
Could this be the fairest view from any public toilet roof in the world?.
Views across Start Bay to the World Heritage Coast of East Devon and Dorset to 46+ miles
The downs are a safe space for people of all ages, families, friends, accessible to the elderly, and people with impaired mobility. This is a public resource, an attraction for many discerning global visitors and an important part of thousands of peoples lives each year.
Visited by thousands throughout the year, from foreign exchange students to the Celebrity alike, Babbacombe Downs are famous beyond our shores for its beauty, peace & views, which are superb. Once it has gone, it can never be retrieved. It is enormously important- a valuable asset and attraction that Torquay cannot afford to lose
This Is England Our Heritage. The Mayor Of Torbay wants to give away this site for £1.00 per year for 125 years to a private developer, Thats outside of the 40 year requirement under the Landlord and Tenancy ACT, therefore not only may you see a Fish Restaurant on this Victorian site you may actually see anything from a Macdonalds to a KFC here in the future if we do not stop this development with public help:-
Please Check out after the 17th March 2010

Torbay (Torquay, Brixham and Paignton), South Devon.
Travelogue along the 20 mile stretch of South Devon coast presents attractions of Torquay, Brixham and Paignton as well as some villages along the coast. Each town is presented with the usual travel shots, and to make Torbay more attractive, famous people and various events are presented. In Torquay, where international entertainer Max Bygraves chose to stay, one can watch waiters' race at Hotels Day. Waiters are seen racing with trays along the street.
In Brixham, where composer Lionel Bart stays, firm tradition of Elizabethan age is kept. Vintage cars are exhibited, replica of Golden Hind is anchored in harbour and Brixham's fishing fleet provides excellent food for tourists. Bikini babes and kids playing with sand are seen at Paignton beach.
The 'buzziest' place, after all, is Torquay. Lovely Cockington village for romantics, golf course where one rubs shoulders with celebrities (Val Doonican, Sid James and Arthur Askey on golf course) or mingle through the crowd at Carnival Time.
