Bagh-e Babur - UNESCO World Heritage Centre near Kabul (Afghanistan)
The Garden of Babur (locally called Bagh-e Babur, Persian: باغ بابر / bāġ-e bābur) is a historic park in Kabul, Afghanistan, and also the last resting-place of the first Mughal emperor Babur Ashes of Babur was moved to kabul by Akbar written in baburnama. The garden are thought to have been developed around 1528 AD (935 AH) when Babur gave orders for the construction of an ‘avenue garden’ in Kabul, described in some detail in his memoirs, the Baburnama.
It was the tradition of Moghul princes to develop sites for recreation and pleasure during their lifetime, and choose one of these as a last resting-place. The site continued to be of significance to Babur’s successors, Jehangir and his step-mother, Empress Ruqaiya Sultan Begum (Babur's granddaughter) made a pilgrimage to the site in 1607 AD (1016 AH) when he ordered that all gardens in Kabul be surrounded by walls, that a prayer platform be laid in front of Babur’s grave, and an inscribed headstone placed at its head. During the visit of the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in 1638 (1047 AH) a marble screen was erected around tomb of his foster-mother, Ruqaiya Sultan Begum, and a mosque built on the terrace below. There are accounts from the time of the visit to the site of Shah Jahan in 1638 (1047AH) of a stone water-channel that ran between an avenue of trees from the terrace below the mosque, with pools at certain intervals.

Kabul Babar Tomb & Garden
Babur Gardens, Kabul, Afghanistan (locally called Bagh-e-Babur) is the last resting place of Zahir-ud-Din Babur, founder of great Mogul Dynasty which ruled India from 1526 to 1857 AD. This garden was constructed around 1528 on the orders of Babur himself. Babur decreed that he should be buried in this garden after his death. Babur died in 1530 and was buried in Agra, India but his will was implemented in 1544 when his remains were brought here in Kabul and buried in this garden.
The garden and the tomb of Babur were later improved when Emperor Jahangir visited Kabul in 1607 AD and Emperor Shah Jahan visited the garden in 1638. Shah Jahan got a beautiful small marble mosque built near the tomb.
Bagh-e Babur fell into disrepair during the decline of the Mughal Empire, and its structures were badly damaged in the 1842 earthquake. Amir Abdur Rahman Khan, King of Afghanistan then paid attention to the restoration of the historical garden and invested in the garden in the late nineteenth century and refashioned it in a European manner. Bagh-e Babur became a public park during the reign of Muhammad Nadir Shah (1929-1933). The garden was badly damaged during inter-factional fighting (Talban regime) in 1992/3, when most of the trees died or were cut down for firewood. The garden was re-opened to the public in 2002, at the beginning of restoration works implemented by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture.
The present garden has an area of 16 Acres and extends over fifteen orchard terraces that descend westward towards the Kabul river. Babur's grave is located on the fourteenth terrace.

Babur (Persian: بابر, romanized: Bābur, lit. 'tiger';[2][3] 14 February 1483 – 26 December 1530), born Zahīr ud-Dīn Muhammad, was the founder and first Emperor of the Mughal dynasty in South Asia. He was a direct descendant of Emperor Timur (Tamerlane) from what is now Uzbekistan.[4][5]
Babur was born in Andijan, in the Fergana Valley, in modern Uzbekistan. He was the eldest son of Umar Sheikh Mirza, governor of Fergana and great-great grandson of Timur. Babur ascended the throne of Fergana in its capital Akhsikent in 1494 at the age of twelve and faced rebellion. He conquered Samarkand two years later, only to lose Fergana soon after. In his attempt to reconquer Fergana, he lost control of Samarkand. In 1501, his attempt to recapture both the regions went in vain as he was defeated by Muhammad Shaybani Khan. In 1504, he conquered Kabul, which was under the rule of the infant heir of Ulugh Beg II. Babur formed a partnership with Safavid ruler Ismail I and reconquered parts of Turki

Afghans rock at Kabul music festival
Over the weekend bands from Australia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Afghanistan performed at a six hour musical festival live in Kabul.
From blues, electronic music to heavy metal and rock, for many it was the first time they ever saw bands perform live.
At the festival alcohol was banned and kebabs were on sale for those seeking snack food.
Twice during the afternoon the electricity was turned off and the bands left the stage as the Muslim worshippers were called to prayer in the nearby mosques.
The date and venue of the concert were kept a well guarded secret to prevent Taliban attacks.
The festival was held under tight security in a corner of the Babur Gardens and some 450 fans paid to attend the concert with others trickling in from the street markets nearby.

Afghanistan is a historical country, at the crossroads of multiple peoples and cultures, from the Silk-Road to the Soviet invasion. This country has some beautiful cities, full of historic memorials of cultural importance.
Kabul
The capital of Afghanistan and the country’s largest city, Kabul has an old history. Some of the city’s good-looking places are the Abdul Rahman Mosque, Qargha, Paghman, the Afghan National Museum, and the historic park, Gardens of Babur.
Kandahar
Afghanistan’s second largest city with an old history and culture. One of the most interesting places to see in Kandahar is Aino Meena, the Friday Mosque of Kandahar, a holy Islamic place of worship considered of utmost importance in the country. Some even call it ‘the heart of Afghanistan. And Ahmed Shah Baba shrine.
Mazar-e Sharif
Legend says that the city of Mazar-e Sharif owes its existence to a dream based on which a shrine was built and then gradually the entire city around it. It is mostly known by tourists as the Blue Mosque City, referring to the Shrine of Hazrat Ali in the center.
Herat
Herat is an ancient city in Afghanistan, with several historical places of interest, such as the Herat Citadel or the Mausoleum of Queen Gowharshad. Today the Great Mosque complex still preserves some of its original decoration even if the majority has been replaced with newer works.
Jalalabad
Is considered one of the most beautiful cities in Afghanistan thanks to the large green areas and surroun-ding water. It was a station for Ahmad Shah Durrani, the founder of modern Afghanistan, who used the city during his military campaigns in India. The architecture in Jalalabad is beautiful, from the Mausoleum of King Amanullah Khan to mosques and the Nangarhar University.
Bamiyan
Located in central Afghanistan, Bamiyan is one of the last cities where the Buddhist expansion reached. Another culturally rich place. Famous for the giant Buddha statues, destroyed in 2001, later discoveries in the area include a few caves with wall paintings from the 5th and 9th centuries and another giant statue, named the Reclining Buddha.
