Benidorm Old Town Costa Blanca Spain (Tour)
The old town is split by what is known locally as 'the walking street'. This is the heart of Benidorm. This is where many of Benidorm's Spanish residents actually live and work. This area has managed to retain its unique identity. The old town inland is a shopper's paradise and the resorts main shopping area. Here you will find such famous names as Zara and The Body Shop. There are many jewellery stores and clothes shops. Shopping is a delight as the whole area is a pedestrian's paradise! Please remember especially when shopping that a lot of the shops, not all, will close at 2pm and re-open again at 5pm. This is the famous 'siesta' time. In the summer months shopping in the morning is preferable in order to avoid the intense heat of later in the day. Calle Ruzafa is a busy street with a lot of traffic and is a frenetic Spanish shopping experience, lined with many shops and bars this is not to be missed. Calle La Palma which is adjacent to Ruzafa has some of the resorts best bistro style restaurants.
The old town isn't only recommended for shopping it's also a foodie's paradise! If you like Tapas, you're in the right place! This place is abundant with them! A visit to tapas alley is a must, located in the very heart of the old town, opposite The Queen's Hotel is where you will find them. Tapas bars are an experience in themselves. They are noisy, boisterous and above all an absolute delight! Don't let the language barrier hinder you, the staff are loud and very friendly and they want you to come in and enjoy! Simply order a couple of items, point and eat, when you want more, do it again until you are full! A top tip here is to take a little rioja while eating, just as the Spanish do! To celebrate the royal wedding of William and Kate many tapas bars created the British tapa! Don't be put off by messy floors strewn with napkins; this is a sign of a good tapas bar!
The old town is also home to a large and very friendly 'gay village'. You will find the majority of gay bars and restaurants by walking up Calle Santa Faz. Please remember that the bars and clubs do not get busy until midnight and go on until the early hours. This is a gay scene without attitude; you will find drag bars such as the famous Rich Bitch and intimate bars all within walking distance of each other.
The old town has a beautiful head land area. Just head for the church of San Jamie, you can't miss it, simply walk up and follow its blue dome to the top. As you walk past the church you enter an area which allows you breath taking vistas of all of Benidorm. Have your camera ready! If you look over to the Poniente side of the headland you will find steps which take you down to the areas own small beach. This is Mal Pas beach. You may notice on the way down hundreds if not thousands of locks! These are left by lovers to 'lock in' their love. Why not get one yourself!
Once down you will also find Benidorm's small port area. Why not take a trip on a boat out to Peacock Island? You will also find Park de Elche, locally known as Dove Park!

The Best Cocktails in Benidorm!
While they are few and far between, it is possible to find great drinks in tourist spots like Benidorm if you look hard enough.
The vast majority of bars are just pouring poor quality no-name spirits at the lowest possible prices, but looking hard you can find good cocktails.
D&Z Cocktails ( mixed us a great Espresso Martini and White Russian, as well as a quality Chocolate Milkshake and a nicely layered Long Island Iced Tea.
Gins & Tonics, while having a fairly limited cocktail menu take the classic G&T to a new level with their enormous variety of top shelf and premium gins, and a staggering range of tonic waters to compliment them.
Treat yourself to some quality drinks next time you're traveling!
