Spanish Lookout Belize Tourism Natural Cleansing Techniques
Spanish Lookout is Belize’s most modern Mennonite colony located in the Cayo District. Mennonites can also be seen in other parts of Belize. They are a self-sufficient people who run their own church-based communities and practice strict traditions. For instance, there is a group that still only travels by horse and buggy. Others have adapted a more current lifestyle. However, in keeping with their old traditions, they live in their modest communities, maintaining the use of their own Dutch/German dialect while their homes and clothing reflect their simple and conservative tastes.Mennonites are a branch of the Christian church, with roots in the radical wing of the 16th century Protestant Reformation. Part of the group known as Anabaptists (because they re-baptized adult believers), the Mennonites took their name from Menno Simons, a Dutch priest who converted to the Anabaptist faith and helped lead it to prominence in Holland by the mid-16th century. Modern day Mennonites number almost 1 million worldwide, with churches in North and South America, Africa, Europe and Asia. Mennonites are known for their emphasis on issues such as peace, justice, simplicity, community, service, and mutual aid.In keeping with their spiritual roots, Mennonites still believe in the close textual readings of the Scriptures and a personal spiritual responsibility as the basis of their faith. Radical from the beginning, but later considered conservative in many of their religious ideas, Mennonites have come to represent a spectrum of backgrounds and beliefs.Pacifism is one of the cornerstones of the Mennonite faith, prompting many young Mennonites to elect service to the church rather than military service. The Mennonite church emphasizes service to others as an important way of expressing one's faith. A disproportionately large number of Mennonites spend part of their lives working as missionaries or volunteers helping those in need, both nationally and internationally, through agencies such as Mennonite Mission Network or Mennonite Central Committee.Having celebrated its’ 50th year in March of 2008, Spanish Lookout has, for the most part, been integrated into the Belizean way of life, and this community coexists with other ethnic groups. They are the major producers of dairy, poultry, vegetables and cattle produce, and supply the entire country with these commodities. Quality Chicken - Belize’s most popular chicken - is located in Spanish Lookout as well as a new-comer called Fiesta Chicken. Gradually we are beginning to see more naturally raised beef, lamb and chicken become available for health conscious consumers too.

Santa Elena The drive through Town Belize
Santa Elena Cayo, is a small hillside town located in Belize. This quiet residential place sits approximately 12 miles away from Belize's Western Border and it's gladly the twin sister of it's twin brother town 'San Ignacio'. While doing this film, I came across some perspectives of the area. I've been doing films for a while and the location of where you shoot is of significant deal. Why? Well, the people is of great essence. Whatever they do reflects the spirit of their society. In Santa Elena Town, lots of of residential history are found deep within it's physical roots. Crossing that Iron Bridge ( Hawksworth Bridge) the smell of well season BBQ is elevated through the nostrils. At sunset, the neighborhoods that sit directly on the great hills , gets to see spectacular horizons of how the sun tells the town good night. Despite the large amount of daily traffic coming and going, it's more than just a drive through town. I do hope this Video shows a connection of my Experience within this town. A BIG shout out and gratitude goes out to my friend and film colleague Vladimir Vargas for being the film's director of photography in the Ariel drone shots operation. Thanks for making it happen.

Day 1: San Pedro 3:58
Day 2: Snorkeling 12:30
Day 3: Belize City 22:22, Xunantunich 31:45, Cahal Pech 40:40
Day 4: Entering Guatemala
This was not only my first trip to Central America but my first backpacking trip. This trip was a huge breakthrough in my vision of travel as I have spend the past year evolving my passion and desire for travel. It was suppose to be two plus ones, however my mom didn't make it because of school. So my step father and I happily flew into the beautiful countries of Belize and Guatemala, Two completely different yet diverse lands with amazing people. Although Belize is the only English speaking country in Central America, it is a mixing pot of English, Spanish, Mayan, and coastal Garifuna cultures. Belize is a good mashup of tourist and backpacker all in one.
After flying into Belize Citys airport out the outskirts of the city, we took a cab to the Belize City Water Taxi terminal. From here we took about an hour boat ride to Caye Caulker en route to our island, Ambergris Caye where San Pedro is. San Pedro so far was the most relaxing and most laid back place I have ever been to. WHen they say take it slow, they mean it as time nearly seized to exist and our time there seemed to last longer than we thought, GOOD. We spend half of our second day strolling the beaches, walking around town where all they primarily drive is golf carts, and finally went snorkeling in Shark Alley with sharks, turtles, and fish.
Third day we left the relaxation of the island behind, headed for Belize City and took our first 3 hour chicken bus across Belize for San Ignacio. Although uncomfortable, the bus ride costed us a whopping $4. Once we finally arrived in San Ignacio, we settled in our cozy hotel and took a cab ride over to the Mayan ruins of Xunantunich, 15 to 20 minutes from the Guatemala border and the Mayan ruins of Cahal Pech, outside the city. Considering the distance, we walked from Cahal Pech through the small town of San Ignacio to catch dinner and finally head back to our hotel. Instead of our fourth day cave diving or tubing, we cancelled those plans and headed straight for the Guatemalan border to spend the next five days there before heading back home.
Belize is an amazing country for it's size. It not only offers great tourism but offers foreigners the opportunity to buy land for retirement. As for backpackers, Belize is the most if not one of the more expensive countries in Central America. However, the experience between relaxing on a Belizean beach or hiking up a Mayan pyramid is something that you truly can never forget. For a small English speaking nation in Central America, Belize is Unbelizable. Can you Belize it? :)
Many years ago, I sat in a college classroom glancing at pictures of travel, two years ago I started, last year I left the country for the first time, this trip, I backpacked for the first time. Like all my videos, they represent me as I put my heart into all of my footage. I not only enjoy my time and explore but I hope to give others the opportunity to see how things are done beyond the travel guides and books. This is travel in the eyes of Anthony Perez! Hope you enjoy and happy travels!

BLOG POST:
Heading into Flores, Guatemala was exciting but in a much different form than I had envisioned. I had read about Flores, Guatemala prior to going, and it looked beautiful so I was exciting about getting there, however I did not expect that I would be doing it alone.
Before I departed San Ignacio for Flores, I had to say goodbye to not only Steve, but Winston as well. They had to return to Mexico to sort out some unfinished business and I would be moving on through Guatemala, and the rest of the trip myself. I crossed into Guatemala at the very simple, very straight forward border crossing of Melchor de Mencos and I was in Guatemala without enough time to say goodbye to Belize. Now, from here to Flores, Guatemala, was also straight forward. Had a driver flag me down, ask me to if I was going to Flores, when I gave him the affirmative, he waved that he too was going to Flores, and I was the first one on the bus.
San Ignacio Video:
We sat in the border town in Guatemala for about 30 minutes to gather other people, and then headed off towards Flores. You get dropped off on the other side of the bridge from the actual town of Flores and must get a Tuk-Tuk or taxi over the bridge to the center of Flores.
I had built Flores up in my head a little and it was more beautiful than I expected. Surrounded by water and sitting like a dot, in a massive lake, which, given the location of Flores, you cannot truly appreciate until you view a map.
I checked into a hostel, pulled out my camera and pressed record to show YOU a little of Flores, Guatemala.
